The Staff from the minute we walked in the door was so welcoming and made her feel comfortable! Over all I am so happy we got referred here and would definitely recommend!

Eventually it turned into me getting migraines. After returning to their store a few times trying to troubleshoot my issue of feeling like I was crossed eyed when wearing my glasses that were $316 WITH insurance they made me an appointment. At appointment time I was told that I have to pay even more to have it corrected. I will be disputing this with my card and insurance because I refuse to spend even more money when they obviously entered something incorrect pertaining to my astigmatism. I should have never left Carolina Family Vision since I've never had an issue with my prescription from them. Edited to add: I just thought I should fill everyone in. Two months ago they did replace my lenses without a recheck so they actually confirmed that they DON'T have good customer care. It also shows that you don't have good communication in your office since you wouldn't have said that had you known you all have already failed. Shame on you for trying to hide your failures.

I had been thinking of LASIK for years but only recently decided to follow through. I had searched…read morethe local Raleigh area and found Porter Ophthalmology had the best and highest reviews. The lower star ratings I read seemed to be related to insurance related issues so I ruled those out. I initially tried to make an appointment online but never heard anything so I called a few days later. The receptionist was friendly and immediately sent me forms via email to complete prior to my consultation. My wife and I went to the consultation and met Dr Porter and his wonderful staff. After completing all the required tests and asking Dr Porter more questions than I probably should...we scheduled the pre-op appointment and my surgery. The pre-op lasted about 2 hours, which included dilation of my eyes. I drove home afterwards with little issue. Surgery day (yesterday). We showed up just prior to my 0910 appointment and we were sent to a small room just outside the inpatient surgery room (or whatever you want to call it). Friendly staff came in and spoke with us and put some numbing drops in my eyes. Shortly thereafter I was in the room and having the surgery. I will note now that I am 54 and wore progressive lenses so we went with monovision for my surgery. Meaning that my left eye is for reading and my right (dominant) eye is for distance. Seems weird, right? After the surgery, which lasted less than 10 minutes, we received some final instructions and we were on our way home. My vision was cloudy but I could make out pretty much everything. I rested for a few hours in a mostly dark room, putting drops in every hour as directed. After 4-5 hours the cloudiness was almost gone and I could see TV and read fairly well. My eyes were slightly itchy but the eye drops seemed to alleviate the issue. Later on in the evening my left eye began to ache slightly so I took Motrin and went to sleep. Woke up today and vision was even better than the day before. We went to my 0900 appointment and again met with Dr Porter. After a series of checks he stated my eyes were between 20/25 and 20/20, which I haven't had in about 11 years. I was worried about the blended vision but my brain is quickly adapting. Dr Porter said that my vision will continue to improve over the next 4-6 weeks. My only regret is that I waited so long to have this surgery.

She prepared me for my consultation with Dr. Gupta. She was very friendly, professional, and thorough. She asked detailed questions about my eyes, diabetes, and overall health. Afterward, I waited only a short time while Dr. Gupta reviewed the results of my examination. Like my appointment last year, Dr. Gupta was exceptionally well prepared, friendly, and professional. She examined my eyes using a modern slit lamp microscope and explained everything clearly in terms that were easy to understand. The office is modern, spotless, and equipped with the latest diagnostic technology, giving me confidence that I'm receiving excellent eye care. They also coordinate my care with my UNC Health primary care physician, Dr. Joseph Williams, which I greatly appreciate. On February 5, 2026, at approximately 11:27 a.m., I contacted this establishment to inquire whether…read morethe office accepted patients diagnosed with keratoconus who require hard contact lenses. I initially spoke with a receptionist who indicated she was unsure and transferred me to an optometrist. Unfortunately, I did not obtain his name. During the conversation, the optometrist stated that he had only seen keratoconus "once," and further remarked that this was because "the zip codes of the patients he sees are generally healthy." Keratoconus is a well-documented, progressive eye disorder in which the cornea thins and bulges into a cone shape, resulting in distorted vision and significant astigmatism. It typically begins in adolescence or early adulthood and progresses over many years before stabilizing. The optometrist's statement was factually inaccurate and implied a socioeconomic or geographic bias regarding patient health, which I found to be unprofessional and inappropriate for a healthcare provider. Healthcare professionals are expected to communicate respectfully and without bias. The comment made during this call was dismissive of a legitimate medical condition and should raise concerns about the quality of care and professionalism patients may encounter at this practice.
