I called up Mike Truman for an appt. to have doorknobs installed. He sent his son Matt Truman out and he did a good job. He was nice, called me "Hun" and "dear" and told me it was his Dad who I booked the appt. with. We struck up a conversation throughout the job and I told him the only thing left that I thought I would do to my place was replace my kitchen cabinets for shaker style cabiinets with hidden soft close hinges. He said he could do that and next day laid down a price of $1250. I had painted the hinges and screws so I got paint remover and took off all the cabinets myself. He resurfaced the cabinet boxes and sanded it. I painted all the boxes. He told me it would be about a week for the cabinet doors. June 12th I gave him $500 to start the cabinets, within a week he came and got the residual for the cabinets plus I gave him some of the money for work already done, in the total of $1100. Week three and a half I began callilng...no call from him. Continually over the next 4 weeks he would set a date to bring out ( on some occasions) just the 4 drawers he took from me to reface week one and a half (which at the time said he would get back the next day), other times to bring everything, my drawers and my cabinet doors. At least six times I have anticipated his arrival to not only not have him show, but not call, nor text...it was left to me to contact him. Twice he said his phone broke. I finally called his dad Mike and told him everything and he said I should have never gone outside the company with his son, even though I asked him if I had told him I was going with his son for this job would he have advised me against it, he said no he wouldn't have. He advised me to never do business outside a company, which is hindsight and I realize that, but his son did a very good job of being so nice and trusting that hey he works for his father and everything. I asked him could he at least have him bring my drawers back, he said his son is a grown man, 38 years old, but that he would talk to him. His son walked in his office at that time and he put him on the phone. Matt said he was glad I called as his phone died and he didn't have my phone number. I gave my number to him. This was last Thurs. Matt said he would bring my drawers over Friday after work and he would stop by the cabinet place. This was in front of his father on the phone that he told me this. No show, no call, no text. Sunday I call Mike back and tell him your son stood me up yet again for the 5th time. Again his son Matt is there, Matt tells me again he is bringing over everything tomorrow Mon. after work. Matt called me the next day around 6 p.m. said hey you can reach me at this phone and that he was in San Diego, leaving in 30 min. to come up to Oceanside. 8 p.m. rolls around I call the number. He is still in San Diego, should be leaving soon can still make it tonight (at first I say I will wait up) but he adds that tomorrow he will be up in my area so he could do it then. I finally relent and say let's do it tomorrow. Tues. call him around 4:30, his girlfriend has her phone back. She says oh he said he would be calling you after work. 7:30 pm comes around I call the number, no picking up...voicemail. I even left a voicemail on his girlfriends phone number, the one he called me with the day before that he conveniently didn't have on him Tuesday, that he could come as late as midnight to drop them off. Nothing. I am done. His lack of integrity, honesty, and plain right professional decency is just the pits. Within the last 5 days, he has promised me twice, at his father's office, with his father there, that he would bring everything by with some "hunning" and "dearing". I am going with a licensed company now to finish the job, I don't deserve having to beg for my product and being shafted each time he sets something up. So did Matt do a good job under the company with my doorknob installation....yes....did he scam me out of $1100 dollars and my kitchen drawers that he won't even bring back...yes. I'll let you decide if you trust him enough to do your next job. Linda S. read more
