So disappointed. I placed an order for special Christmas donuts for my family Christmas Eve celebration. I arrived at 4pm, the agreed upon pick up time. The man behind the counter said, no one told you there was an issue? He wouldn't explain anything to me, called the owner and the owner spoke to me over the phone and stated that my order was just not made, asked if I really needed it now or if I could come tomorrow for it. I have ordered in the past and been very happy with what I've gotten but this put a damper on what I had planned for desserts for our dinner, not cool on a holiday. read more

Hubby went to pick up some donuts on a Friday night around 8:30pm. It was raining and he said parking was hard to find for a first time visit. I can't speak for the shop itself because I wasn't there myself, but I can speak for the goods. The donuts were tasty. However, they were a bit oily for my liking, leaving an oily film and taste in my mouth. The "Bakers Dozen" is for any donut with a hole in it. I don't know the names of the items, but the donuts with sprinkles were a bit stale (maybe due to the time of day). The ones that have a hole, but in a flower-ish shape were amazing! Soft, fluffy, but again...oily. The one jelly donut we got came with a crazy amount of filling. It was awesome! They sure don't skimp on the fillings. Like others have mentioned, it's cash only. However, my hubby said the lady that had helped him was really nice (contrary to some of the bad experiences others may have had). I wish he would have picked up some of the blueberry/strawberry donuts for us to try, but there's always next time! P.S. the lady gave us an extra donut for purchasing a dozen. read more

A close family friend ordered a birthday donut for my son who just turned 18. It was huge, delicious surprise! We have never seen this before. The donut was soft and fluffy on the inside and cover with beautiful vanilla icing with edible glitter on the outside. The place was clean. They had marks on the floor for you to stand 6ft away. They have a variety of donuts to choose from. My daughter got a sprinkle donut. I picked a cinnamon roll and I bought the big 4th of July donut. They all tasted great. We had chocolate milk to drink. They have outside seating our table had 4 chairs at the table. My favorite donut shop of all time. Donut wheel is consistently delicious every time I have gone there (and I lived in Livermore since I was a baby, so that's been many times!) Now that I live out of town, I make sure to stop by Donut Wheel every single time I am back in Livermore. Try the red velvet! Go early for the best selection. It's been owned by the same family for many years (1988) and they are very nice. The male owner, is a sweet quiet man who give kids donut holes...I've put in more than a dollar tip and I get the impression it's too much because he gives me something else to try, very nice. This is a Livermore staple! I enjoy coming here but have noticed that I enjoy it more when I've had some beverages. The service can be a little slow and it's quite dirty. This was a good place to get a donut and tea some years ago. It was especially nice that it was open any time of the day. Upon my most recent visit; it appears the store has developed a flying insect infestation in the corner of the donut case! The Lowdown: ** ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE DOUGHNUT SHOP ** First time visit! We stopped by tonight on the way home because I wanted to have a doughnut and haven't had one in a while. So I read about this place on Yelp open 24 hours and decided to go check it out with my family. We came by at 9:30 pm on a Sunday night. Found parking right in front on a busy street in Downtown Livermore. As many have mentioned, this place is CASH ONLY. We had cash, no prob. I would say this is the weirdest experience I've had at a doughnut shop. We got there and there was about 5 other people in line ahead of us. It is not a fancy joint at all. A real 24-hour joint which is not appealing to eat at on the premises. Older furniture, dated signage. Not very cozy or welcoming. There was a homeless man sleeping outside on the corner in a sleeping bag. But hey, I just wanted a doughnut. As time wore on and we stood in line, I just had this creepy feeling that it would be the ideal place in a movie setting for a zombie apocalypse to happen - harsh fluorescent lighting in the store, strange clientele there during the time we were there, and slooooow, slow, S - L - O -W, slower than molasses service from the lady working there. Like I just wanted to turn and run out of there, but I was still hoping to get a delicious doughnut! Here are more things I can share from my experience that will save you from the heartbreak of coming here and being disappointed like me: - slow, Slow, S-L-O-W, insanely slow service. Did I mention that it was slow? I want to give the server Norma/Nirma (sp?) the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she was having a bad day, recovering from surgery or something and had to move slow, or may have health issues, but the service was so maddeningly slow, it was not normal. So if it bothers you to wait in line while your hair turns grey in order to buy a few doughnuts, then DO NOT come here! But I want to give her props because if I was working here at 9:30 pm on a Sunday night, I wouldn't be thrilled at all, either. I wanted to buy and try the custard-filled doughnut holes that I read about on Yelp, but was told they didn't have any. :( - Two chocolate glazed, raised doughnuts (99 cents each) - this is what I chose, and one for my child, too. My doughnut did not taste fresh at all. It makes me sad that what I chose did not deliver. Than again, it's 9:30 pm at night, but still. A chocolate glazed raised is pretty basic and should taste fluffy and fresh on the same day. What a waste of my splurge calories! + COCONUT DOUGHNUT! Of course my husband chose this. He always chooses the bomb item wherever we go! I should know better by now and gotten one for myself. THIS WAS GOOD! If there's anything I can recommend, it is this coconut doughnut. On mainstreet in the heart of livermore. Absolutely lovely to walk down the street and visit the shops. It's a 24 hour donut shop which is amazing! The service is eh, the owners are elderly and know moderate English. Never rude, but always sort of blah, like they don't want to be there. The atmosphere is awful. We recently got to try this place because I have heard so many good things about it and drive by it all the time. I went in a little after 7 am on a weekend. It was not incredibly busy and they still had a large selection, but my experience was subpar. The employees were curt and overall just not very friendly. Some of our donuts we're okay and some were undercooked with parts that were raw batter. I'm not sure if every place does this and they just don't tell you but certain donuts like maple and chocolate bars were an extra charge when you want them in a dozen. I feel like in other shops you can pick whatever donuts for your order. This place you are restricted and they are just rude when you ask which donuts you can have. They had some specialty donuts but said we couldn't have those in a dozen. (I would have thought if they were extra that would be okay, but they flat out said I couldn't have them in the dozen) The place itself looks like every other donut shop. I did check reviews first which was beneficial because I would not have known they were cash only if I didn't. They do have an ATM in the shop as well but I'm sure there is fee towards your credit card to withdrawal. I grew up going to the donut wheel in Cupertino, which was the 'it' spot to hang out when everything else was closed. The Livermore location (and apparently also the original) is also great. I've never been in here in the mornings, only after 9pm. It is 24 hours and I definitely am giving them props for that. But if you show up round midnight or past, it is a whole other crowd, just sayin'. The selection at these hours look more marginal, and the lady behind the counter is somewhat zombie-like at this hour, but this place is money for that quick cheap sweet fix. Even though the selection is limited, the product does taste quite fresh. The cake-y dense donuts have a nice texture and are not crazy sweet which is of paramount importance to me. The blueberry one just melts in the mouf. And I heard the chocolate covered frozen bananas here are quite good if I were into such things, but I'm not. Great way to end a night. I was visiting relatives in Livermore and we were craving donuts so I found this place on yelp and saw that they had pretty good reviews so i decided to make the drive to satisfy our craving. Imagine my disappointment when we walked in to see that there were 2-3 sheets of donuts that looked sad and lonely and like they'd been there for a while. It was just plain donuts and maybe maple?
