It's your average neighborhood mom and pops donut coffee shop, where everybody's on a first name bases and it's nothing but friendly smiles and cozy encounters. Johnny owns this shop, along with his son whist fully helping him out on long days. The staff are super friendly. Donuts are delicious, not too dry not too sweet, made daily in the store filling the morning el cerrito air with donut aroma. May can make a killer espresso! Johnny and his laughs fill the store. A pretty eye lady is there to welcome you on the weekends. The coffee is delicious, something about sinking my teeth into fresh donuts and a cup of coffee. The prices are what you except between 50-150 for donuts and 1.50 for a dozen of holes. Usually they throw in a couple free ;) talk about knowing how to keep customers! They offer hot drinks, bottles and can drinks, water. They do only take cash, but a handy ATM machine right next to the register. They do super lotto and have a scratcher machine, as well. They get really hectic during lunch time and offer fries and burgers during lunch! I was an avid regular when I worked in the area several decades (you read that right....decades) ago. Johnny was a bit younger back then. The S.O. and I dropped by this past Saturday to see if the donuts (and Johnny) and changed any. The donuts here at this establishment are as sublime as ever, and Johnny has gotten just a few years further down the road of life. A more dedicated soul in life you will be hard pressed to find. I would have to say that any donut shop shows their reputation by their standard glazed donut.....and Johnny has this down. Light, fluffy, and delicate! A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! Lights OUT! Can in around 1130am looking for donut holes but the lady said they were sold out. I knew I was too late and I was looking for something to bring to my daughters class to share for Valentine's day. Luckily they had just make red,pink and white sprinkle plain donuts. I know the kids would like them so I got a dozen and asked the worker if she could cut them or give me a knife to cut them up before I took them to my daughters class. The worker helped me and let me take the tray to the table to cut them up and she gave me extra bags. We love coming here with our kids. The donuts are yummy and affordable and the staff are very kind people. They have a great variety and everything is always fresh. All the time, it's donut time! I love this donut shop. Apple Fritter is my donut, so I come to donut time for the Fritter. In my opinion, they make a pretty mean Apple Fritter. But, all the donut are pretty good and consistent. There's also a grill here. You can order sandwiches, hotdogs, and burgers as well. I haven't tried the food here, but I will one day. Also, sometimes if you buy a dozen donuts they will kick in a few extra bonus donuts for you, but you didn't hear that from me. There's also a Milk tea place next door and Mountain Mikes. I've been coming here for many years and the donuts are still the best in town. Johnny and his family are some of the nicest people you will ever encounter. They are so loved by the community. They don't sale those over the top donuts you see of the food network. (All that flash gets tired and overworked) They are straight old school. Like mom my says, "if it ain't broke why you tryin to fix it?!" The glazed raised donut melts in my mouth. And he keeps the milk super cold. Damn! I want a donut now. There prices are super low and yet they never compromise on quality. There are a lot of regulars that stroll in throughout the day. Everyone knows one another. This is what it was like when I was little. We had neighborhood places that we went to regularly and knew everyone. This is your ideal get away from the rat race/Wi-Fi, etc., sort of donut shop that also offers several grilled lunch items, besides a few select cold sandwiches from 10 a.m. - till 4 or 5 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, although their donut/store hours are much longer. They try to close shop by late afternoon on Sundays, so do not expect them to be open at 8 p.m., which is currently listed. Understandably so, as this dedicated couple, Johnny and May, are open 7 days a week, with only an occasional day off and maybe one week off per year. They make their own donuts daily, as well as bake delicious croissants, Danishes, butter horns, and flakey fruit/jelly filled sticks. And not yet on the menu, but available, is the plain old fashion crunchy peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat toast, which I started getting as a low carb breakfast. Check out the pics or drop by and have a taste the next time you are in the neighborhood. The shop is located in a strip mall, so there is ample FREE parking available. Their reasonable prices and welcoming attitude only add to the overall experience. Oh, and I must mention that they make expresso and I believe latte too, which I personally do not ever drink, so cannot attest to the quality, though I've seen folks order them. Great service and okay donuts. The donuts here have nice texture and mouth feel with a great balance of sweetness to bread flavor but the donuts didn't taste too fresh. The regular glazed donut wasn't too dry and cake-y, it was fluffy and airy. I loved the French curler donut, it was amazing. Highly recommend. read more

One of the best cinnamon rolls I've had in a while. Not every shop gets it right but this one was great. I bit into it && thought 'damn, I'm gonna have to start working out more now.' Time has recently remembered the strip mall in which Donut Time resides, as it's gotten a face lift in this past year. I rank Donut Time highly among donuts in the area (see also my review for King Pin in Berkeley). As a perspiring artist, I typically go to Tap Plastics next door, place a fab or cut order, then mosey over to Donut Time to indulge in a French, a crumb, a custard, an old fashioned, and/or a buttermilk. Notice that I did not mention anything with a fruity distinction. I love everything there but the items which claim to have fruit in them. Whatever fruity attribute lies in these has a synthetic taste to it like Chanel No. 5 in a retirement home. Perhaps I exaggerate, but this is suspect in everything from the blueberry donuts to the jelly-filled to the yellow-and-red danish. But aside from this, the donuts are high quality and well-executed. Good glazes and textures, and not too dry when you get towards the insides, to which so many a buttermilk especially has fallen victim. I love the place and enjoy the greeting from the mom and pop that run/own the place, and enjoy being about half the age of most of the patrons. Keeps me feeling young to compensate for feeling fat. Oh yeah, it's "Donut Time", not "Doughnut Time". Anywhere else it's just "D'oh". read more
