Happy Donut makes me one happy girl! It was pouring rain outside and the thought of a nicely warmed fritter enticed me. We called ahead to ask if they had any more in their case, and to our surprise, they had three: apple, blueberry, and banana! We quickly made the drive and were greeted with a sweet aroma that filled the air. We decided on the blueberry and banana crumb cake donuts, blueberry fritter, and were lucky enough to try the banana fritter as well. All of them were super duper tasty. My personal favorite was the blueberry fritter since it was my first time having one. We will definitely be back to try other offerings, such as the classic apple fritter and various cronuts. The lady working, Sylvia, was so so kind. We had a nice conversation with her and she informed us that they also operate Rainbow Donuts, which we have visited before and loved. Happy Donut in Albany has an excellent selection of tasty donuts. The woman who helped me was very nice and friendly. She offered to fill the maple and chocolate bars for me. I ordered a banana fritter and maple and chocolate old-fashioned donuts. So, so, so delicious! I have gone back and ordered the blueberry fritter, a glazed buttermilk bar, chocolate and glazed raised donuts, and glazed donut holes. They were excellent! You really can't go wrong! I now consider myself a regular customer. Happy Donut is open from 5am until 10pm so you can have donuts right when you wake up or after dinner for dessert. He seemed mildly annoyed to have to serve a customer? Fine but odd. It was my first time trying this donut shop. The "fancy" ones are all $3.75, the twists $2.75 to $3.00. I got 1 each twist, chocolate covered buttermilk bar, cinnamon swirl round and apple fritter (they didn't have the other varieties of fritter that I've read about in reviews). Last night, my daughter and my wife and I decided to treat ourselves to a really nice dessert after dinner we decided to go again to happy donut. We have our faves there. I decided to treat everyone and my choice was I have to say that they make the best apple fritter anywhere and having a cuppa coffee in the morning may sound like a bit of a sugar overload but it's my happy place . we didn't stop there. I also bought regular donuts bars and cream puffs and you just get started. You can't stop.. When I've seen the sign for this or any of their numerous locations, I've asked myself the probing question what would make a donut happy. After all, the donut is presumably the victim of a happy donut eater, and it would be mere residue in the digestive tract, wouldn't it? However, I didn't trouble the proprietress of this shop with my rhetorical inquiry. She just wanted to know which dozen I plan to order. I wanted to pickup donuts for some co-workers and found this place on the way with good reviews! Before I came, I called to confirm they were open and that the cost of a dozen donuts was $13. The service is quick, but it's not very friendly. I felt very rushed and it was hard to understand questions because they were getting muffled and spoke so quickly. In the end, I was given a lecture by the employee about not listening, which was not a great way to start the morning haha. I was told at the register that the price for the dozen was $13, but my card ended up being charged $18. I should have checked more closely when I was being rung up, but I wasn't even offered a receipt. The cake donut I tried was nice and moist and my co-workers really enjoyed the donuts, but I'm not sure I would come back here again because of the service. read more

This was the best donut I have ever had, served up from a friendly young lady who steered me in the right direction. I just wanted a little sweet treat after a long day at work. I asked her advice between a maple old fashioned, and the maple buttermilk. Without hesitation she steered me towards the buttermilk. I walked out and realized the bag was warm. I've been in a couple of times, and they have amazing donuts for affordable prices. The parking lot can be tight during the morning rush hour, but there is street parking. The staff pays attention to the number people inside so social distancing is enforced. Usually people are in and out quickly. They have extensive menu of donuts, that go quickly but thankfully I like my donuts simple. I like chocolate or regular glaze. They have a $5 minimum to use your card, but you def need to get more than one donut when you come here. Their prices are also really reasonable as well. I came to Happy Donut during a blackout (power outage) to get a couple of doughnuts for breakfast when I lived in Albany. I chose to come here because I walked past the shop on my way to the Albany branch YMCA many a morning and it always had people in it. Occasionally bakery aromas from the store wafted across the street as I was walking to/from my workout and that added to my desire to try some of the doughnuts. Additionally, with no electricity the garage door would not open so I was left to choosing a breakfast option within walking distance that would not be affected by the blackout on a cook-to-order basis. Happy I decided to come to Happy Donuts! The doughnuts were huge and delicious. I was hungry so I got two bigs ones: an apple fritter and a chocolate frosted creme/custard filled doughnut. I ordered a round creme/custard filled but got a rectangular one by accident. Not a big deal, still tasted great and to be fair I didn't check until I got home what doughnuts I had gotten. I ate both doughnuts in one go they were so good. Even forgot to take a picture before I finished devouring them, yes I am still sad about this... Also, this may seem like common sense but to some it is not, bring cash if you go someplace and want to buy something during a blackout.
