I love Donut Time!!! It is my favorite donut shop in El Cerrito!!! The staff here is very friendly and I love the nostalgic, mom n pop, neighborhood-y vibes. It's always lively in the morning with people ready to start the day with a caffeine and sugar kick. They also have indoor seating available. I enjoy the glazed donut with coffee. I've been to Donut Time a couple of times now, so it's time for a review. The owners are very friendly. This time we bought half a dozen donuts, and they were nice enough to toss in a couple of donut holes for good measure. But for some reason, these donuts didn't taste as good as on my first visit. I had my usual: an old-fashioned chocolate. We came at the same time, and on the same day of the week. I'll be back again to see if this was just an aberration or a trend. We had a really great take-out experience with them this weekend. We were going on a day trip, so we called ahead for sandwiches and picked out some donuts when my husband went in to pick them up. The sandwiches, the donuts, and the service were all wonderful! Seriously, they do a perfect BLT sandwich. Very simple and classic. We also got an egg and cheese sandwich, a tuna sandwich, and a turkey sandwich, all of which were excellent. They made ordering ahead very easy -- the sandwiches were ready for pickup when we arrived. And the donuts were predictably great! My favorite were the glazed twist and the old-fashioned. I have never been a doughnut person, being more drawn to the savory than the sweet, but Ed U's review piqued my interest. A month later and I stopped by yesterday. I bought a maple glazed cruller and a buttermilk bar. The two combined came to $2.75, which seemed extremely reasonable, given the price of a croissant or a hand made pretzel. The woman who helped me was very nice. I ate the cruller when I got home and it was delicious. The glaze was sweet, but not enough to hurt my teeth. The texture was just solid enough for someone who prefers cake doughnuts to raised ones. This morning I heated up the buttermilk bar, which was unglazed. It was large and fine textured. I realized I am still not a doughnut person, so I won't be a regular at Donut Time, which is probably healthier for me anyway. But I may go back sometime in the future. read more

I love the boba, delicious and fresh and soft (Also pretty cheap especially for the size, at other places or would probably be another dollar or two). Had lunch there today (Friday 5/3/24). Lunch Special, $11.00, Cheeseburger (no onions or pickles), Fries, and Soda. 4 Men talking in foreign language LOUD, some Asian? Philippine? ANGRY sounding. I'm 77, disabled, and they frightened me. I ordered counter and was told to sit down! I did, at a very dirty table close to front door in case those men got violent. Eventually a woman brought me napkins, a straw, a pepper shaker, and a well used, dirty, squeeze bottle with something viscus and red she called ketchup. When the Cheeseburger finally arrived, it was on a paper plate with OLD fries. Some of the fries looked/tasted like they were reheated from two or more days ago. The Cheese Burger was on an untoasted bun , cut in half, with so much mayonnaise when I picked it up the whole thing slide apart. This was a Burger Patty I did not recognize as any meat I have ever seen!. It was DENSE and more gray than brown. Was it even BEEF? I'm 78 years old, I've had LOT of burgers! read more

Worst experience EVER!!! We're moving to the area and wanted to support the nearest bagel shop. We arrive to EC at 9:03 sent someone to get breakfast and she returned an hour later I opened my bagel only to find a 5 day old rock with the lightest smear of cream cheese!?? I had to take it back and get a refund, that's unacceptable! You best believe you lost our service for good, not only for the really old bagel but your lack of service! This is by far the best donut place ever. The donuts are always fresh and never oily. I have to give the owner 5+ stars for going above and beyond. My daughter just had her birthday and wanted donuts to pass out to her class. We asked if we could have a special donut made for her, a chocolate glaze with sprinkles but we also wanted it to be a little bit bigger than normal since of course it is for her birthday. The owner totally came through and made my daughter's birthday extra special. I highly recommend this place not just for the excellent donuts but also for the excellent customer service. Where the El Cerrito Elite come for their Donut treats! When I moved to the East Bay in the early 1990s, this doughnut shop and "Johnny" were both here. His face (like mine) is a little more "sculpted" now, but he pretty much waits on you the same way and tells you to "have a nice day" at the end. Donut Time's selections are usually good, but not the Best. The old Lyon's Pastry in Estherville (Iowa) is my gold standard. And unfortunately, yesterday's unfilled maple bar was surprisingly stale. At the same time, the local people watching (especially seated) is almost as good as the barber shop and is worth return trips just to catch up. read more
