Been coming here for years since I was in my teens. Back then they had a Chinese food to go on the right side of the donut shop but now it's Ali's chicken and waffles. They only accept cash. They do have a ATM machine here but with a fee. If you have Wells Fargo/NavyFed/CU/BOA/Chase they are within walking distance of this donut shop. Super fresh donuts; so many variety. My to go is their Jalapeno ham and cheese, she can heat it up for you or take it as is. They sell variety of drinks as well. You can tell the donuts are made fresh daily. read more

As I was waiting fir my meal inside at Ali's Chicken & Waffles I was extremely tempted to order doughnuts for myself. Once I ordered and saw that they brought our fresh doughnuts, I caved in and ordered 3 doughnuts fir myself while I waited for my meal at Ali's. The employee who was in the back was a quite sweet girl and answered all the questions I had for each individual doughnut that looked tempting. I'm a sucker for Apple Fritters, so I ordered one of those (microwaved of course), a raspberry filled doughnut, and a Buttermilk Cream Doughnut. Both the Apple Fritter and Butter Cream were amazing!!! As for the Raspberry doughnut, it was decent, nothing too awww about. But if I was around the area again, I would definitely like to try the other doughnuts they gave to offer. read more

I came here many times when I was younger and started craving sweets again. The place is quite clean, a bit dark but it wasn't that bad. The donuts are really good, I got this maple split with cream in the middle. I bought two, one chocolate and one maple for a total of 5 bucks. The owner was really nice and quick service. Maybe the doughnuts taste good, but we had 2 gross experiences there that left us feeling yucky and we couldn't enjoy any of it. First, there was a long black hair in the icing of my daughter's doughnut. When we brought it to the lady's attention, she just looked annoyed we disturbed her. Second, and worst: the lady sits behind the counter in a chair watching shows on her phone, with her face inches from the doughnuts (no glass guard on her side of the counter). She had a mask on, but her nose sticking out, and was hacking and coughing multiple times while we were there. Unfortunately we were already partway done eating when we saw it all. I realize you can be on your best behavior when the health dept comes, but come on! Please have some respect for the health of your patrons. Go ahead and watch videos all day, but at least sit farther down, without your face in the doughnuts racks for hours. Maybe I'll update our post if we come down with COVID or a flu or something in the next few days. read more

I have been going to this Donut Star for many years and as the years pass, other donut brands pale in comparison. This Donut Star uses only real, traditional ingredients and fried in the traditional way, making the best donuts in San Diego. I used to go now and then for a treat or dessert, but now I pick up a few donuts every time I'm nearby, even if it's several times per week. Their looks and tastes bring me back to the happiest days of my childhood. I recommend them above all other donut shops. read more

I came here to pick up chicken and waffles from alis and found that they shared the same store. Parking is relatively okay but there's a small lot shared with 7-11. I got some donut holes, a standard glazed twist donut, and apple fritter. The donuts tasted very fresh and airy and the glaze is not that sweet compared to other donuts. It's around 1.25 for a donut, which is a bit more than some other small shops. But it's pretty good quality and I'd be down to stop by whenever I crave a standard donut. read more

On two separate occasions I came to the counter to get a donut. I politely asked the woman to please wash her hands before serving me because I saw she had been surfing on her cellphone and handling it for a good 2 minutes before she saw me at the counter. She immediately came irritated at my request. I was shocked that she would have that response. I tried to explain my request I help her see my point to no avail. So honestly my fiancee, friend, and I came here for Ali's Chicken and Waffles for dinner, but all the pastries looked so enticing, we just had to each get a donut! Specifically we got a Sugar Donut, a Chocolate Frosted Chocolate Donut with topped with Coconut, and one of their Maple Donuts. All of their donuts were good! Not overly sweet and a nice consistency. While I got a bite of each one, I ordered the sugar donut which has a nice chew to it! The chocolate donut was a but more cake-ey, and the maple donut was one of the more crispy crumbly ones. Overall a nice contrast in texture from all the donuts! We'd for sure would come back, I especially want to try one of their fresh Croissants! I definitely hope they have a collaboration project with Ali's Chicken and Waffles and make like a Croissant Chicken Sandwich and maybe a couple different kinds of Donut Chicken Sandwiches! read more

This donut shop is quite small, as it's supposed to have a soon-to-be taco shop attached inside. The selection of donuts is pretty standard, they were $1 each, or 1.50 for a fritter. Many of the donuts look good. I got an apple fritter, and it was very tasty. It's quite large in size, the outside pretty crispy but also has a sweet glaze. Just stopped in for a quick snack because I was craving sugar. Luckily for me, I was able to secure a long john with Bavarian cream just in time! The place is small and simple but has all of the classic donut favorites like bear claws cake donuts with sprinkles and glazed as well as cream filled. If you're the kind of person who has to have milk with your donut they have small portions of whole milk in plastic containers for purchase as well. One strange thing I did notice is that they sold Chinese food in the very same location. Not going to review that since I was there strictly for to satisfy my sugar fix. For two bottles of milk, one bear claw, and two cream filled chocolate covered donuts it was about 7 1/2 bucks total. Very reasonably priced! read more

This place is a Khmer owned business which of course I would always support because of the Khmer Rouge. They've been in business ever since I was a child and I hope to never see their business shut down. Every single time I'm craving a donut I will always go here, they only accept CASH though. Which isn't an issue for me because I can go to 7/11 right next door to withdrawal money in order to purchase something. This place is personal to me because I've grown up eating their donuts. I am big fan of this place except when they run out of what I need (cream filled donut for Brian). Honestly for myself, I don't really eat donuts on weekends, I have my fill on Fridays at work (its free pastries including donuts/bagels). The timing is always the part you need to assess because they might run out of your favorites (the creamfilled ones) or my favorite in this place, chocolate chip with chocolate filling, it's delicious. Like most donuts, best eaten within a day or it becomes stale. Parking is plentiful since most people buy and leave, rare sightings of people eating in but have found some. It used to be cash only but they take cards now. I know because Brian sometimes goes and he never has cash, seeing a charge for under $5 on your checking account is a sure sign. I would prefer their donuts than the VONS across the street and they are open 24 hours. I often go on Weekend mornings only with Apricot staying in the car while I get his Daddy's favorite.
