I stopped by Fresh Golden Donuts after dropping a package off at UPS. I heard that they tend to sell out and so the selection was a bit limited by noon. The shop is your standard mom and pop donut shop, and the woman at the counter was sweet. I spotted a luridly green donut and, upon inquiring, learned it was pandan flavored. Sign me up! I bought one and ate half of it in my car immediately. The donut was about $2 and I had cash on hand, allowing me to avoid the $0.50 fee for card use. The donut was incredibly soft and fresh, no old grease flavor at all. I was a bit shocked how bright green the interior was. I am not a big fan of super artificial dyes, so that was a bummer. However, the simple glazed donut did have a slight pandan fragrance to the dough, and I would definitely come back to try some of their other offerings in the future. read more

I forgot to bring cash and had to pay $0.50 extra to use card but honestly the donuts are affordable enough that it was still worth it. The maple bacon and plain glazed donuts have my whole heart. The maple bacon has just the right amount of bacon, sweet but not overpowering maple flavor, and soft donut. The plain glazed is probably the best plain glazed donut I've ever had, super fluffy but you still get a nice bite and chew. There is seating inside if you want to eat in but most people grab as takeout. Have bought donuts here twice and both times, the donuts were fresh and not at all greasy. Service is efficient but not at all friendly. In neither case did the server smile or greet me. Selection is okay. Here in Oregon, they really go hog-wild so I wasn't that impressed. The first time, I enjoyed a nice cake with sprinkles and split a sugar raised with Mom. We both enjoyed the experience. This last time I tried the Boston Creme. It had plenty of filling but the filling tasted strange and was too runny for my tastes. I wouldn't call it vanilla or custard. With plenty of other choices in the San Diego area, I probably won't be back. read more

I've had a variety of their donuts too and they are equally as delicious. The bear claws are gigantic! The prices are low too! Service is always great. I go mid morning after the crowd and there's always some left . The lady working was super helpful giving me information about placing an order in advance. Best donuts I've had. I've been to so many donut places around San Diego and I kid you not these are a step above the rest. I don't think I've ever had a bad donut here and I've been at this place for years. Even when they don't have my go-to (Cinnamon Roll and glazed donut holes), I'm always able to get something I like. The women who work behind the counter are super nice, too! This place is always clean and I never have to wait long to get my donuts. Every once in a while I do see a lot of customers but it's always quick. Don't go to those expensive, hipster places like Donut Bar or Nomad (the latter of which I find highly overrated). I have been in search of a new donut shop and had to give it a try. I got a chocolate frosted and chocolate cake donut. I bit into the chocolate frosted donut and it felt like I was biting into a cloud. Absolute perfection, from there I moved to the chocolate cake donut which is a tough task for donut shops to conquer, fresh golden donuts went above and beyond with their rendition of the chocolate cake donut. I then got a Vietnamese iced coffee and as soon as I took a sip, I felt like I was on the streets of Hanoi. Fast friendly service on a Sat morning. We were in the area and picking up Starbucks. Next door is a small little donut shop. OK so I'm in live with these donuts now!!!! Like I don't normally like a crawler but when your Glace and your filling are on point you will have me relive some fat kid moments. A sugar coated Bavarian creme filled with strawberry donut caught my eye and heart. Oh was it good. Not too overly sweet with still a perfect bite. Have heard later on these little guys cane be not as great so make sure you get there early to make sure you get choice selection. They have all the classics (old fashioned (glazed and plain), crawlers, fritters, etc... some new style like the bacon maple donut (looked OK but maybe will try next time). I am not a regular here by any means but I live close by and this is one of the two donut shops near by that I go to when I want to buy a donut. Today I went to buy a cronut which is basically a croissant in the shape of a donut. I bought it before from here and elsewhere and it was always in the price range of a $1.75/2.5 today when I bought mine they charged me $3.75 for one and it was almost closing time. It tasted fine and there were no issues as far as the quality goes but I am not sure what makes a cronut so special that it's sold for $3.75. The price definitely seems a little steep considering that it's not a meal of some sort. read more

I've always noticed this donut shop whenever I go to the Starbucks next door. I usually buy my pastries at Starbucks since it's more convenient to pay for everything at once but I thought I'd support a local business and try out Fresh Golden Donuts. I brought my coworker with me here a few days ago before we hit up Starbucks. I really love ham & cheese croissants and that's my usual order at Starbucks, I was surprised to find out that Fresh Golden Donuts sells them here too at the same price $3.75. The ham & cheese croissant was HUGE! It's way bigger than the one they serve at Starbucks. It had a lot of meat in it and it was very dense! That whole croissant could be an entire lunch or meal for me. I had half of it which was yummy but I forced myself to give the other half to my coworker or else I'd be full the rest of the day. I do admit it was delicious! Credit/Debit Card purchases under $5 have a 50 Cent fee which isn't too bad. I'll make sure to stop in for a donut or pastry the next time I'm in the plaza. read more
