I'm a sucker for local donut shops and I was stoked to find one that I hadn't been to around the corner from my house. Tucked away in a small strip mall next to some restaurants and a tattoo parlor, it's easy to miss. Their storefront advertises a variety of other things like breakfast sandwiches, muffins, etc - so if you're looking for something other than fried pastries, they have you covered! I went with a chocolate covered and a pink frosted one. Both were super fluffy and not overly sweet. Not sure if they were recently baked, but they were super fresh and I loved that they kept their form, flavor and texture even the next day when I decided to finish my sugary treats. Like most donut shops, it's cash only, but they do offer an ATM. If you really don't want to pull out that much cash, there's a 7-11 next door where you can pull out a few bucks with any purchase. Service/food 5 stars! The owner is so sweet. Our first time here was on Tuesday and the owner answered all of our questions. She even sells fresh fruit here! Really fresh donuts! Great tasting, happily glazed and sweet! The donut holes were delectable, but the raised twist was a bit too yeasty for my taste. All the rest were wonderful. Love the hours - open later than most independent donut shops. Highly recommend! I love the people who work here and thier donuts. In a rather convenient striplet on Riverdale/Glassel by the 91 frwy, Donut Star shines as a great place for many things. Parking gets crowded sometimes but never out of hand. The service is always great, freindly people, clean organized shop, quick and efficient. Cofee I always get thier regular coffee and its always perfect, I usually prefer thiers over a few places I will not name(but thats a personal prefference, not a typical evaluation point). I also like thier hazelnut blend, they have a couple of other flavors. You can add milk, cream and sugar right there before you go. more They have milk, juices, sodas, cold cofee's, water, and more in thier fridges. plus they have Boba. Donuts all the greats are here, if you want an apple fritter that taste soft and fresh, not stale and crunchy, here it is. The old fashioned glazed, devils food, all the bars, sprinkles, and everything I can think of, they are great. Plus they have muffins and criousaants, including thier ham & cheese breakfast crousaints which my co-workers love. The crossaints are stacked with egg, bacon, cheese and ham for $3 which are huge. Can't get that at fast food!! They have different flavors of coffee and toxin removing teas! Their newest item is the baked cronut!! They have different flavors maple, chocolate, sugar and crumb. We tried the crumb one today and it was scrumptious. The crunch and sweetness were just right. Tsk tsk!!! Shame on you, Donut Star!!! Selling day old re-heated donuts as "fresh" doughnuts. I've had these day old hockey pucks mixed in with fresh doughnuts on my last few visits. Shouldn't be difficult to tell when you've had a day old re-heated doughnut: 1) Tastes DISGUSTING 2) Super oily 3) Deflated mess of fried dough instead of being light, airy, and soft. Reputable bakeries separate their day old goods from the fresh goods and customers know when they're purchasing day old goods.
