Went at 8am on a Friday and the door was still locked (they open at 7am) so that was a little odd. It's a small spot, nothing overly nice, looks pretty old but it's not like you're staying to eat there. The donuts were amazing, almost deserving of a 5 star. The only reason I took off a star is because of the prices. The Dubai chocolate donut was $5 with no filling. I think they just wanted to capitalize on the trend and charge a ridiculous price when it isn't anything extra compared to their other donuts. My family and I were stopping somewhere nearby for lunch and I noticed that Donut Squad was open. Usually they're closed when I'm in the area for a evening/night movie at the Original Theater, so we took the chance to stop and pickup a few donuts. We got a toffee piece topped donut, a chocolate glazed with marshmallows, and a s'mores donut. All of us thought the dough of the donut tasted good. There were a lot of toffee pieces on that donut, but the sweetness of the frosting made it hard, at times, to taste the toffee pieces. There were only three small marshmallows on that donut, so nothing markedly special, and the graham cracker cereal pieces on the s'mores donut were a little soggy for some reason. The inside is tiny. No seating available and only one 4' display case of donuts to choose from. The prices aren't awful, but considering the donuts were just ok, it's more than we'd want to pay again. All in all, we've had better donuts elsewhere and I won't be sad seeing they're not open the next time I'm around for an evening/night movie. read more

There's not a lot of donut places in Milwaukee. Lakeside bakery used to be my go to but they've since closed. It's a small shop and I had a nice older lady help check me out. Very small hole in the wall business but nothing compares to the flavors and designs of Squad's donuts! A group of 5 of us came to Squad's earlier today and got a dozen donuts, plus 3 more on the house because the nice lady running the shop enjoy our group so much! My favorite is the Fruity Pebble one! Donut Squad! I was roped in by the FB posts showing a glass case filled with what looked to be delectable donuts. What I got was a half dozen donuts that were glazed in sugar, cereal and candy. If this is what you want then eh, go for it. I personally expected a bit more flair and styles of donuts that weren't just the "glazed" donut type. Donut Squad isn't bad just not quite my cup of tea if I'm going to eat some sugary snacks! Also, the Eastside location isn't the cleanest looking. Again, FB showed this pristine display behind squeaky clean glass. Far from that, the glass case appeared smudged and it just felt not so appealing a place to walk into. Experience: It was definitely a struggle trying to visit this place. When you do make a visit, please ensure the hours are correct before going. We made a mistake of looking at the wrong hours and came when it attempted to enter, to our surprise, it was completely closed. Parking: It appears to be all street parking. No parking lot from what I seen. Since I got here on a Sunday, parking was free. Overall, it seemed to be moderately difficult to find a spot, but not impossible. Worth: If you are in the area, give it a try! The donuts were honestly okay. Great potential with the flavors, but I had better. I believe my favorite donut from here would be the strawberry shortcake cake (As pictured below). The neighborhood itself is awesome. East Side is definitely my favorite neighborhood in Milwaukee. Had my first visit earlier this week. I expected more selection. I opted for the Boston Cream yeast doughnut with chocolate frosting, Nutella was the other frosting option, and the Oreo Cookie cake doughnut. Both were too dense and the Oreo was a bit too dry. Neither tasted like they were made that day. Other notable options included Fruity Pebbles and Captain Crunch doughnuts. Cool ideas for doughnuts, but they miss the mark on texture. But, I never listen to myself, so, of course, I go get donuts in bad weather. This was a place I wanted to check out, just because of the variety of donuts they have and specialty flavors that they boasted. I got seven donuts, giving my friend a couple of them and trying the cereal ones and a cookies & cream myself. I enjoyed all the donuts! One of the more unique donuts is the cinnamon toast crunch donut, which was done on a cinnamon roll (Persian)! The fruity pebbles was on the cusp of being stale, but was still crunchy, so it gets spared from being bad. Cookies n cream is always good and the Kit Kat & Butterfinger were great junk food donuts. Overall, I'm glad I was an idiot and make the trek to this place. The cashier was super friendly and we chatted for a bit, mainly because I was one of the only crazy ones to come in bad weather. I will start by saying that I am not really into stunt anything and this place is all about stunt doughnuts. There all all kinds of crazy creations. It is expensive, but I imagine there is a lot of work that goes into these creations. There is not much of a place to sit. They serve doughnuts and coffee, mostly to go. Very good. We visited later in the day, so our donut problems are largely personal and not due to the establishment. Selection was limited (our fault) as it was late in the day, and our cereal coated donuts had soggy cereal - not sure if this is a standard issue or because they'd soaked up moisture from the icing - in any event, it didn't seem to impair my kids from inhaling said donuts ("hey mom, this cereal is soggy". - 30 seconds later -all that remained of entire soggy donut was 2 crumbs - so it couldn't have been too bad). They're OK! I love their strawberry Shortcake and Caramel Coconut Donuts. Coffee is from Collectivo, so you cant beat that! The first couple bites of my donut were great, then I noticed I was getting full after a few bites, so its definitely filling...not sure how much flour they pour into the dough or how they are preparing it, but it is a heavy donut, not even a cake consistency. The flavor is definitely there, and they have all types of variations of candy bar donuts and cereal, which I will definitely try next. It's a solid 3.5 for donuts in my book! It's a quaint shop with a couple tables and a few chairs, but it wasn't very inviting and I wouldn't expect to sit there for more than 10 minutes. The Kit Kat donut and the cheesecake were said to be some of the most popular. I'm a fan of their unique flavors. They had an even layer of toppings and a good presentation. The flavor was somewhat lacking to me for the Kit Kat, but the Cheesecake only somewhat reminded me of a cheesecake. Staff was friendly and knew their stuff. Their donuts are on the pricey side of the donut family. One of their popular ones was sold out around 9 AM on a Tuesday, so they do have their loyal fans. Would I return if I'm in the area? Maybe. While drinking a dirty chai at Whole Foods, I just so happened to glance over and noticed this place. My inner sweet tooth said why not!! Let's try it out... Once inside I talked to one of the owners and they have only been open for a week. They haven't done an official opening yet, but they had about 10 different variety of donuts on hand. Some of the donuts were topped with cap n crunch, fruity peebles, Oreo cookie bits, and even strawberry shortcake. I decided to go with the peanut butter and jelly donut which was topped with a white peanut butter frosting and filled with jelly!! This was delicious.. I love PB&J. Definitely would order again. I also bought the strawberry shortcake donut. Didn't get a chance to eat it yet, but umm umm umm it looks scrumptious. They also serve colectivo coffee as well. They open daily at 7am and right now they close when mostly all of their donuts are sold out. One donut on the menu that won't be available until July is the ice cream donut.. I was so excited when I saw advertisements for this place on facebook! I love doughnuts. First of all, they are not having their grand/official opening until the end of the month. So for the time being, expect them to be sold out pretty often. Call ahead, or don't drive too far out of your way unless you're sure there are some. The doughnuts are really really tasty, even without the toppings. With the toppings however they're amazing! I really love the fruity pebble ones. I also had a sour patch kid doughnut, which was actually not as weird as it sounds! They have lots of other flavors like s'mores, cookies and cream, cereal, puppy chow, peanut butter, etc. The pricing for them is very reasonable in my opinion. The fancier kids are less than 3 dollars. The two owners are very nice. They have been selling out like crazy since their soft opening and have been super apologetic the two times I came by and they were sold out. They seem really excited about their business and are listening to suggestions and tweaking things. Pretty soon once they are up and running longer and have more employees besides just themselves, I'm sure there will be more variety and less instances of everything selling out! Walking east on North Ave, I was struck by the scent of sweetness and allowed my nose to lead me to the door of this little hole in the wall donut shop. It was the day of their soft opening and there were limited options available. Whoever was behind the counter was very friendly and excited to have been so busy on the first day. I liked seeing that kind of excitement in a place I'm grabbing a bite from... you could tell he cared about the place. Despite the limited options... you probably really couldn't go wrong with any option here. I had one request, it had to have filling. I got my fix in a Long-John styled donut filled with a light whipped cream. My friend got the S'mores which I was only able to have a small bite of before he devoured it. Both choices: remarkable! Incredibly light, sweet but not overly so, and fluffy, so fluffy. I was impressed! Sold out I was overly excited when I saw mention of Donut Squad on Facebook with the most amazing pictures. Forget the diet, I needed one NOW! I stopped by during their soft opening and arrived to a closed sign at around 1p. I was crushed. I then made another trip back over on the weekend at around the same time and there was a sold out sign on the door. Sigh. I should call before driving over, but, third time's the charm. On a Monday afternoon the racks were stocked plentiful. I took forever to pick out four of the amazing looking donuts so they could be savored later in the evening. We all wanted to try the options out so we cut into pieces. One was whipped creme filled but the filling was lacking - only half was filled so naturally I got the short end of the stick on that one. Overall, not impressed. The big winner was the toppings - the chocolate glaze was so good I'd like a pint of that alone! I plan on making it back to try out their boston creme filling.
