Love the donuts at Donut Drop. There are several bakeries and donut shops in the area, but I personally think this place is the best. The only down side is you have to get there bright and early in the morning for the largest selection of donuts. Sadly there's no such thing as being in the area in the afternoon and stopping by for some. They are mostly all gone or the place is closed. I'm pretty confident I have never had a donut this satisfying before. I had taken my boyfriend, Rick P. here to snag some donuts early Saturday morning to start off his birthday weekend right. I discovered this little spot on Yelp, bookmarked it and was hoping for a reason to visit soon (but did I really need an excuse to come here? Nah). I decided it was the perfect time. Like most bakeries and sweet establishments it's smart to get here earlier to get the best selection and insure freshness. We had gotten here maybe a half hour-45 minutes after they had opened for the day and my oh my was I excited. Donut Drop is a tiny little place nestled in the corner of a small strip mall. I wasn't expecting any grand sign or a fancy place. It was clean, taken care of, decorated in many donut themed signs and such - just what I expected and hoped for. There was already a few people seated inside and leaving with boxes of donuts, which to me is a good sign. The donuts themselves are laid out and labeled behind glass to pick and drool over. They all looked fresh, soft, fluffy and perfect. Rick and I had gotten two sugar donuts, one red velvet, one chocolate frosting, one cinnamon sugar and one glazed. They were everything I could have hoped for! The donuts were honestly 2 inches thick and had just enough frosting, sugar, etc. The prices were right and so worth it. I spent less than $6 on a half dozen. I would absolutely LOVE to visit again and I would truly recommend coming here for that sweet morning breakfast...or midday snack. read more

I was in the area and decided to stop by. I got three doughnuts- old fashioned, chocolate glazed, and their version of Boston creme. I thought they were just ok. The Boston creme doughnut itself tasted like funnel cake batter and was greasy. I felt the chocolate was the least worst of the three. They were all fresh. I feel like nothing about these doughnuts were more sophisticated than a regular doughnut you'd get anywhere else. Also, it felt and tasted like the doughnuts are all a variation of two base recipes that are adjusted for flavor variety. Overall, ehhhh, less fake tasting than Dunkin donut types, but the search continues for the BEST doughnuts. read more

The donuts here are amazing! I've been to my share of donut places the donuts and croissants are so good! The creme filled croissants are delicious! They run out fast so I suggest getting there early. Service is great! I even used them to make my donut cake for my wedding. I definitely recommend coming here! read more

12.7 miles is not the longest distance that I have travelled for an apple fritter, but it is likely in the top 5. The fritter itself does not land in the top 5, but probably in the top 10. It was solidly all-around good, a classic version. The only tweaks that I would make are more cinnamon and less sugar. Besides the apple fritter, both yeast-raised and cake doughnuts here are very nice. Cake is hard to pull off, but they do it very well. Service here is warm and conscientious. For example, I ordered three doughnuts, one of which was a boston creme but I mentioned it second. The clerk, with the third doughnut in her tongs, realized that she couldn't fit it in the bag without the boston creme rubbing chocolate icing on it. So she removed the first two doughnuts and then positioned them all carefully inside the bag so that the chocolate icing was facing out and the other items were safe from chocolate contamination. All of this took place wordlessly. Believe me, that kind of thinking is right up my alley. I would never ask someone to rearrange my doughnuts to keep the chocolate icing off of the apple fritter...but I sure am glad that she did! I also overheard another clerk encouraging a customer to join their rewards program, and offering to reopen his just-completed transaction in the computer so that he could apply that purchase towards the rewards. A donut shop less than 10 minutes away from my office?? Yes please! I "dropped" in to Donut Drop earlier this week to grab a donut and coffee since I was craving something sweet. I was able to snag their last bacon donut (score!) and my friend chose his signature red velvet donut and one more which I can't recall. The people working there were very friendly and the atmosphere of the shop seems like a good study/work environment as well as a place to catch up with friends. The only thing that was lacking was the lack of labeling for the donuts. I had no idea what anything was so it was a relief when the guy working there mentioned that they had one bacon donut left and that made the choice easy. Bacon + donut?? Why of course I must have that. I ate my bacon donut for dinner, yes dinner, and it was glorious! (It was well deserved after a long workout at the gym and just what I needed to refuel). The donut was deliciously fresh! It was soft and chewy yet somewhat dense, covered with frosting and topped with a large piece of bacon. The sweet and savory flavors complement each other well and if you're skeptical of bacon on a donut, don't be. I highly recommend trying it. Donut drop is pretty snazzy! I swear I posted a review for this place but it apparently has now disappeared. Donut drop is a tiny little bakery that accordingly has a tiny selection. I mean this place is not altogether that much bigger (front end) than someone's living room. Everyone is super nice and this place is a great pickup for donuts for the day, but I can't imagine that end of day you're going to get the best donuts. It's like working at a bagel shop - all the good stuff is in the morning, not the afternoon. Fritter here may not be the *best* fritter in the world, but it's pretty good and enormous. I've seen big fritters, but this was really big. Overall: great donut shop to pick up a dozen before work, some non-standard flavors make that a big plus - I hate the "chocolate or coconut or plain" options that you'd get a dunkin donuts. A really small place in a strip mall that I actually missed the place when I was driving. I went on a Monday around 930 and there were plenty of fonts left. I got the half dozen including the vanilla long john, Boston Cream, strawberry frosted with sprinkles, old-fashioned, blueberry, and Nutella s'mores. I had the vanilla long john on my way to work and it was amazing how fresh it was. I would definitely recommend this place. I haven't had the rest of the donuts yet, but I'll update this when I do. Delicious!! Don't let the gross strip mall be decieving! The variety is great, taste is amazing. My favorite is the croissant they fill with cream. These are not stale, tasteless 'dunking' donuts. Out-of-the-park yeasted and cake donuts, with nary a bad selection in the bunch. We were looking for some good donuts for Father's Day, and decided to try the donuts up here. Great choice. The donuts are remarkably cheap for their quality: roughly $4.50 for a half dozen donuts, which sure beats $3 a donut downtown. It was midmorning, so they were down to three large trays of donuts. Nonetheless, we got some good variety: chocolate and strawberry sprinkle, butter crunch, Boston cream, caramel glazed, and a couple others I don't remember. It's exciting to have a real yeasted donut after years of Dunkin' Donuts. It's the difference between a copy of a donut, and the real deal. The toppings are all fantastic as well; a flavorful caramel, super chocolately chocolate, and great vanilla custard. Nothing terribly sweet, just great flavor. I have to call out the butter crunch as an especially good use of your daily calorie allotment. Think coconut cake, but fried in butter, and that gives you a hint of what this donut tastes like. Donut Drop has a huge assortment of donuts but runs out pretty quick. (They were even out of cold brew by the time we got up there!) These are fantastic donuts. For some reason my picky butter noodle eating daughter only likes donuts from here. She doesn't like Stan's Donuts, no Krispy Kreme, no dunkin ... so here I am finding myself driving 25 minutes to get her donuts from here (yeah - I'm that kind of mom .. I also drive all the way to Hippo House for her bread for lunch) It's pretty impossible to come here when you're on a diet, so I don't recommend it. They had literally 3 dozen types of donuts, possibly more and I got a dozen just for her and my toddler to try. They really love the Apple Donut ... it's not as cakey as you get from an apple picking farm, so it's much better IMO. I'll be a frequent customer as my daughter gets to snack these while she's with her tutor for a few hours a week. It's worth the drive for sure, go early though, they go fast!! read more

We love this place! It's become Our family's go to spot for the occasional morning treat. Donuts are always amazingly fresh, and there's a great variety (classics and flavors you won't find elsewhere, like the Nutella s'more we tried this morning). They are a bit tucked back in the corner of the strip mall and really easy to miss (I drove past for a long time without noticing) but they are well worth the stop once you know they are there. We got a 1/2 dozen which included bacon maple glazed, cookies and cream, raspberry filled, iced vanilla, double chocolate and strawberry filled. The donuts were amazing - the filling didn't taste artificial which is always a bonus. Amazing find in the suburbs! After visiting many of the well-known Chicago donuts, I have to say Donut Drop is high on my list and beats a lot of big name donut shops in the city. Great texture-firm but soft, perfect mouth-feel. The first bite emphasizes the rich butter content which fades to a linger as you finish. Not bad. Pretty good donuts. Definitely worth checking out. There's nothing about this place that "Wows" me, but the donuts are better than many other places around.... especially Dunkin Donuts. I tried 4-5 different donuts to get a selection. They were fresh, but seemed to lack something for me.... possibly flavor. If you're getting donuts, most likely you aren't watching your calories, so they might as well taste good if you are going to splurge. If you are in this area, I can tell you that Spunky Dunkers is one of my favorite donut shops. I gave it 5 stars and highly recommend it. If not, give this place a try. read more
