My Bank teller one day couldn't of endorsed them more as she went on & on how much she liked them & they were her "go to place" she's lived up here much longer than I, who've only been here bought 16 months I have used them in the past, even for a broken Ring & pinion on my jeep back in the year 2000 & they knew how to do that, & LOVE WORKING ON JEEPS !!! Don's Auto in Running Springs is nothing short of a MIRACLE WORKER operation, and my two angels--Wendy and Davey--deserve a medal, a trophy, and a vacation for the way they saved my sanity (and my Tesla) during a recent hiking mishap. Picture this: I'm on a remote trail near Lake Arrowhead, enjoying the peace of nature, until I return to my Tesla Model S and realize I've locked myself out. AGAIN. Fifth time. While on the mountain I needed my car battery replaced. I called Don's on a whim and was delighted by my experience with them. The staff were all pleasant, helpful and efficient. On a busy winter weekend they were able to quickly send someone to me, get my car jumped and over to their repair shop. My car requires a somewhat uncommon battery which Don's had no problem replacing in only a few hours for a fair price. If I ever have car trouble again while on the mountain I will be calling Don's. read more

BEWARE!!! Don's Garage is NOT AAA rated. It's no wonder, they would NEVER qualify or pass. My experience with their garage was HORRIBLE!!! I was charged an additional $200.00 restocking fee for a part that was ordered, by Don Jr, and NOT needed. He didn't bother to check-out the car first, just ordered the part??? WTF! He won't show me proof that the part was ever delivered. Maybe he'll be able to prove it to the judge. I would rather not go to court but it's all about the principle of the matter. read more

Unprofessional, made me wait two whole weeks to bring my truck in. Then when it was time and we were going through what needed to get done, they proceeded to tell me finally that they don't want to work. They wasted 2 whole weeks of my time, and couldn't care less. I could've taken it to another shop and had it done in that time, or at least getting worked on. I DONT RECOMMEND ONE SINGLE MECHANIC IN THE SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS TAKE YOUR CAR DOWN THE MOUNTAIN. I just want to start by saying I don't throw around 1 star reviews easily. It takes a lot. I brought my husbands truck here from big bear because a family member highly recommended Don who I guess usually runs a great and professional shop. The timing belt had snapped and we needed a new motor. I paid a staggering 2500 dollars to this shop in labor. 2 minutes after driving my truck ifff of this property every censor was going off, it wouldn't drive straight. There truck was detecting something wrong with the motor and turning of the 4x4. When we took the truck back to the shop to tell them the man working shrugged and said they never touched any censors and he didn't know what to tell my husband. Really? This is how you treat your customers who just spent over 2 grand here? Your mechanics took everything apart to put that motor in, of course you touched the censors!! They said they would get to looking at my truck when they could. My truck was brought back to showtime collision down the street where my brother works for them to figure it out where Their mechanics worked really hard to get these issues fixed. I was told the alignment on my truck was messed up from being taken apart to put the motor in. You guys test drive your vehicles you fix and gave this back to us like this?? And to gaslight your customers into thinking you have no idea how these problems could have occurred instead of reassuring them you would help figure it out? Horrible. I've never been treated so badly by a mechanic in my life. The people who referred me here are embarrassed. I just wanted to let Don know that not only were we treated so poorly by your shop but the problems my family is still feeling from this. My husband commutes for work and 3 weeks later still has no vehicle to get to work, a much better mechanic shop down the road still can't figure out how to fix some of the mess this shop caused on my truck. read more

My husbands car ended up over heating on the way up to big bear on the 330, he pulled into a turn out and called AAA at 3:30pm and the agent said Don's towing would be there at by 5:30pm. At about 6:30pm my husband received a call from the office worker at Dons towing (she was the only nice experience my husband had) she warned my husband they could only take him to the bottom of the mountain (odd but okay). Two hours later at 8:45pm my husband and son were picked up. Once down the hill the driver proceeded to try and drop my husband and young son off in cul de sac area by a chevron which was a huge homeless encampment (by this time it's 9:30pm). My husband called AAA and had a second tow truck pick him up and the driver of that company confirmed that Don's towing prefers to drop people off in this encampment area!!!! I know Big Bear is small and there isn't much option for towing. I'm not even upset that they couldn't take them home it's the fact that in the middle of the night a driver would even think to drop people off in that area!! read more

I had a flat tire on my trip in Running Springs, I called AAA and the service man came out to put my spare on so I can drive to Dons to get my tire patched up. Everyone there was super helpful and very kind, I definitely recommend to anyone in the area especially for emergency situations. I got a flat tire in Running Springs....no problem...I called AAA to replace it with a full-sized, brand new spare tire. No problem..He replaced the tire and I took off down the hill.. A few minutes later, there was a sound coming from an area beneath the floor of the car. Long story short, I was able to get down off the mountain and limp over to a tire store. It was there that I learned that the AAA technician did not tighten the lug nuts.. Pretty simple for a AAA technician, right? As a result of this mistake, I ended up with a car that was out of alignment. I called Don's garage and explained what had happened. The manager seemed more than happy to refund the cost of my repair. Well.....I went there today to collect my reimbursement. The owner, Don, immediately took out his wallet to refund my money. Then he went on to blame my lug nuts and my rims for being the problem.. I wish that he had accepted responsibility and left it at that. I would not have left a negative review if he had. read more

Blew out 2 tires on the mountain on a Monday at 530pm, trying to get back to San Diego. All shops were either closed, not willing to help because of distance, or just gave me the runarounds. Dons auto came through in a clutch situation, as I was stuck by snow valley with my son and pregnant wife. Juan picked us up, dropped us off at a hotel, and took my truck to dons garage. Took the day off work to snowboard on my birthday, and ended up with a smoking engine in running springs. The other auto shop in town opened at 730am, but told me they couldn't look at my car until Thursday (it was Tuesday at 8am). So I went to Dons and waited until they opened at 9am. Der helped me out right away, diagnosed the problem and replaced a part from Napa auto parts down the block. The work took 30 minutes, and they charged me 1/2 the hourly labor rate, which many mechanics would have rounded up to the next hour. I was back on the road by 930am and enjoying my day off when I was certain the whole day would be a bust. It was a relatively easy fix, but when you make quick work, charge reasonably, and save a guy trying to enjoy a day away from the rat race on their birthday, you get 5 stars. Thanks Der! read more

Take your business elsewhere. I'm a local, was told they could change my run-flat tires on my BMW. I brought in my car to have tires changed, they took my wheels off, their tire machine was broken down, and they could not complete the job. Action Auto had to. To add insult to injury, they had the nerve to charge me $20 to "patch" a run-flat tire (made specifically to drive on a flat for ~50 miles) for a job they couldn't complete. Skip the crooks and go to Action Auto instead. read more

We were at Lake Gregory and my Toyota Highlander was broken into by breaking the driver side window, all while the kids and I were only a few feet away! They stole my wallet and my friends car keys. we drove up from Los Angeles in two vehicles hoping to have a peaceful getaway from the Covid Chaos with our kids. My friends vehicle who's keys were stolen was parked in our AirBNB in an uphill VERY NARROW driveway. Dons Towing was super professional and believe me when I say this, they know what they're doing! AAA Sent them a request for towing because fan belt broke going up highway 330 around 6:30 pm 12 miles from their shop in a storm and dispatcher Wendy said they weren't able to tow me until the next morning she told me this 8:45pm then there driver called me and asked where I was then told me there's a big storm and I would have to call AAA back for another company because they couldn't handle it!!! So Don's garage and towing should sell their trucks and get out of the towing business!!! I'm still waiting for a tow truck and it's 2:30am in the morning and around 20 degrees outside I'm just lucky I have a sleeping bag with me so I don't freeze to death!!! Terrible experience!! At 5:30 am, coming down a snowy, icy mountain, i got a flat tire and my snow chain wrapped around my rim and axle. I was stuck in the road. I called aaa and she said since this is an emergency, we will expedite the service. Luckily i had bolt cutters and was able tk cut the chain and move a bit further off the road. No way to change a tire on a hill in the snow. I waites until 10:30 am and called for an update, she said "keep waiting, the tow company will call you when they have an estimates time of arrival." That phone call never came. 9 hours later, a friend came and was able to pull me down the mountain to a flat area so we could deal with this. In the meantime, my truck ran out of gas and it was 19 degrees out, i was freezing. I called and was told that the tow company cancelled the service at 10:00 am. I had never spoken to the tow company, why would they do this? No answers. AAA did not care. I called at 10:30 am, why was the cancellation not seen then? 9 hours!!!! No one checked on me. I cant tell you how dissapointed I am. Supervisor said "sorry, we will look into this." I can guarantee that never happened. Garbage service. I deserve a year of payments reimbursed since it was all for nothing. read more

This place is horrible! They has me waiting for over 3 hours on the side of the road. Then when Bill showed up he acted like he didn't want to tow my car down the mountain. Bill told me that he was going to put my car on the truck. So I figured we could just meet him down the mountain at the shop we agreed on. When I got down the mountain I got a call from Wendy telling me that they weren't going to tow my car because the driver didn't have my keys. There wasn't any reason the driver would need my keys. My cars stick so it doesn't need to be turned on to go into gear. Also the driver could of called me before I was down the mountain to ask me for the keys but he didn't! This place is horrible an I wouldn't recommend them at all. Because of them my car was left on the side of the road unlocked with all my work tools inside. Now I'm missing my $500 vacuum thanks to this place! How could you do a woman all alone in the mountains that way?? read more

AAA called Don's towing after I hit a rock on Highway 330 taking out two tires. The driver towed me 11 miles, dropped me at night in a parking lot and told me to call another tow truck. I sat for hours and hours waiting because he did not end the call with AAA, therefore showing that the call was still in dispatch. He literally left me stranded. After fifteen years, I finally did it: locked my keys in the trunk of my 2008 BMW in Lake Arrowhead, an hour and twenty minutes away from the spare key at my house in Pasadena. Sebastian from Don's tried every trick in the book to unlock it, and even called a few other people, including a local locksmith, to see if anyone else could come up with a suggestion. We were finally able to get ahold of BMW in Riverside and were told that because of the age of the vehicle they couldn't send a remote signal to open the doors and the only option would be to tow it to their dealership or back to a dealer in Pasadena. I called my saintlike wife, who heroically cancelled a hair color appointment to drive from Pasadena with the extra key, and Sebastian felt almost as bad as I did. He could not have tried harder or been more sympathetic. It was greatly appreciated. read more

these guys took advantage of my situation; i called AAA from Big Bear as my break lines were broken by the cheap snow chains local auto shop sold me for $107; AAA said they will only tow me 7 miles and suggested DONS; they called me and quoted $12 per mile which is 4 times the national average of $4 per mile; total $1100 from Big Bear to Tarzana; I hate myself now for being stupid to accept it in the 6pm dark snowing night under pressure; i should have accepted the free 7 miles to local garage, got a taxi home, upgraded AAA to 100 miles, go back next day and get AAA to tow me back home for free; i lost $1100 for a moment of stupidity and DONS taking advantage!!! read more

We were in the Lake Arrowhead area for the Labor Day Weekend, left one of our vehicles parked at the cabin for a couple of days and discovered on Monday morning (Labor Day) that some local wildlife (rodents) had made themselves at home under the hood - chewing up some wires.
