When he finally rings the doorbell we play a recording telling him nicely that we're not interested. He ignores it, knocks on the door, wakes my kid up. I must have fallen into a parallel universe because we had Don's Garage Doors out today and my experience was nothing but 5 stars throughout. (I've also used A1 Garage Doors twice for my own house with complete satisfaction so I'm not sure why some reviewers say Don's merging with A1 is the kiss of death.) Both door springs broke on a family member's garage door and she called Don's because she'd used them before. I offered to be at the house when Don's arrived because I was a residential contractor and service guy in a past life. The springs broke early evening Wednesday and they scheduled us for service the next morning. Before Gerrit arrived I got a text on my phone saying he was on his way and it included his bio with a picture so I'd know more about him. When he arrived he was a gentle giant of a man who patiently answered every question I had (and I had plenty). He took the time to explain everything in easy-to-understand terms. We opted for the best springs so there would be a lifetime warranty. Gerrit pointed out many issues about the door I would have missed and fixed each of them as part of the service call. He thoroughly inspected the entire door and its operations. He found most of it was in excellent shape, but showed me how the cables and rollers were cheap and dying. He gave me the pros and cons of each repair option and we decided to purchase the best parts for the repairs. Being as I was a contractor and service guy for many years, I know sales talk when I hear it and I know when someone isn't knowledgeable and blowing smoke when answering questions. He asked great questions to determine the best equipment for our purposes, finding the right spring and associated parts for our garage and opener. He explained all the benefits of each price point completely. The job was completed in a couple of hours. Don's has a few different price points so it can be as expensive as you like or you can try to keep it wallet friendly. He clearly knows garage doors and took care of business within thirty minutes. Typically is despise services like this coming go the house as it always ends in high pressure sales conversations for things I don't even need. Very typical in HVAC companies. Drew only pointed a few things, showed me the estimate and let me decide. No pressure, no games and no stress. It only cost me 130 dollars or so to have all the rollers replaced, everything lined up and the garage door opened lubricated. I was very happy with my service and the price. In March, our garage door opener failed. Don's technician said the motor was burnt out and parts weren't available due to age. We purchased a new opener from them since the cost was similar to purchasing ourselves but supposedly came with a lifetime warranty. He claimed to have inspected the tracks, rollers, and everything else to prevent future issues. Four months later, the door came off the tracks while closing--nearly hitting our car--and wouldn't close at all. We left an urgent voicemail at midnight. Instead of a call, they texted an automated text for me to schedule my own appointment the next morning. We had to wait two days for a tech while leaving our garage door open and house unsecured. Once there, he told us it wasn't covered--warranty only applied to the opener itself, not labor or track-related issues which we were under the impression it was a warranty for the previous service as well. We hadn't fixed it sooner thinking it was under warranty, but it wasn't. My husband bought $100 in parts at Home Depot and fixed it the same day. Don's quoted us $1,000. We were charged $60 for the visit, which we expected and the invoice falsely claimed he tested the remotes (which were locked in our cars), the keypad (he didn't know the code), and that the door worked properly--the included picture shows how he left it, which could not close for his so called inspections. Turns out it was wireless (that one's on me), but they still charged me about $200 to replace what's roughly a $50 part. While they were there, they did an inspection I didn't ask for and said the door was way out of balance. Fair enough; the door is very heavy, which suggests the torsion springs are failing. The tech then quoted me around $1,600, which he said was the cheaper of two options. After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I told him I wasn't doing that, my internal red flag said that price was way out of line. He followed up by saying he could call his manager to see if there was a better price. Why not lead with the better price? I declined again. The next day, I called two other highly rated garage door companies. One quoted $500 all-in to replace the springs, the other $380; both well-reviewed contractors. When it came time to replace our garage doors, we turned to Dan's Garage Doors, as the company we had previously used had been purchased by them. We still did our due diligence--checking reviews and confirming that Dan's was recommended by Team Dave Logan, our trusted source for home services. Unfortunately, the experience that followed was extremely disappointing from start to finish. In August, we met with Travis, who did a great job explaining our options. We ordered two doors and were told they would arrive in four weeks. My husband even arranged to take the installation day off work. By mid-afternoon, however, no one had arrived. When we called the company, we learned--only then--that the installation had been put on hold because one of the doors was damaged. No one had contacted us to let us know. Dan's rescheduled the installation for later that week, using temporary panels in a completely different color while new panels were reordered. During that installation, we pointed out that the second door was also the wrong color. The installer insisted it was correct and that we were mistaken. Since our house was being painted the next day, we asked if we could keep the temporary panels, as they would be painted anyway. We were told that this was not allowed due to manufacturer defects and that the entire replacement process had to be repeated. When we asked whether Dan's would offer a discount to offset the additional cost of our painters having to return--especially since we were required to pay in full even though one door was incomplete--we were told no. Discounts are not offered until a job is fully complete. Two weeks later, the replacement panels arrived. When the installer came to swap out the temporary panels, he discovered that one of the original panels was also damaged and confirmed that the color was, in fact, wrong. A completely new door had to be reordered--again. We were told they would rush the order. After a week and a half with no update, we called for a status. Later that week, we were informed that the new door would not arrive until November 7th--five more weeks. We called to explain that this was unacceptable, as we would lose the opportunity to paint the doors before winter. We were told a manager would call us back within a day to discuss options. No one ever called. By early November, after speaking with Dan's support staff at least six times and receiving little to no help, we gave up waiting and decided to live with the dented garage door and painted the garage doors. On November 13th -- three months after our initial order and six weeks after the second reorder--we finally received notice that the door had arrived. Throughout this entire process, we received no apology, no discount, no ownership of the repeated mistakes, and no meaningful communication. This was truly terrible customer service, and based on our experience, we cannot recommend Dan's Garage Doors. read more

Avoid this place - they used to be great but now they're owned by a huge company, A1 Garage, and they have gone way down hill since that. I was desperate for new openers last year and I hadn't seen that they were bought out so I called them and they came out and installed two new side mount openers to the tune of $5K. Right off the bat, one of them didn't work, and even though I had their "Worry free club" that guarantees service within 24 hours, they didn't come back for three days. After multiple visits they just replaced the opener. All was fine until last week when we got an excessive force warning on our big door. I called them and they sent a tech out that advised nothing was wrong but he did a tune up as part of the worry club. Two days later (today) I open the garage and the wire snaps and now my garage is stuck at 30% open. I call Dons and they say they can come out on Monday. This place is an absolute joke and should be avoided - these reviews are either from the OG Dons or they are fake. Also, they tried to pressure me into their stupid club again to which I said no, and then they asked if my cleaners could sign up for it since I wasn't home. Met with a Technician to get a quote for a new single car garage door on October 21st. Technician was very professional and knowledgeable about what would need done to replace the garage door. He showed me samples and a door grade and style were selected. I was told a product specialist would be in contact with me to finalize the quote. No one called me back. After the initial site consultation and not hearing back from a product specialist I called Don's Garage Doors two times over a two-week period and each time explained the situation, which they confirmed as they had my information on file. Both times they transferred me to a product specialist and each time I had to leave a message. My third call to Don's was on October 31st at which point I let the rep (Paul) know I was no longer interested in having Don's install a new garage door as I selected another company (Ankmar) to complete the work. Ankmar provided a quote within minutes before leaving the site. I cannot recommend Don's Garage Doors to anyone due to their unwillingness to submit a simple quote for a garage door replacement. What I will do is let everyone I know what a terrible customer experience I had begging them to provide a quote. The end result is a lost potential customer for life and many more due to word of mouth and this review. read more

Needed a new garage door after 30 yr old one was damaged beyond repair (don't ask how). Called in the morning and had a representative here to discuss later that same day. Picked out a new replacement door (nothing fancy, just an in stock, generic door). The door was installed the next day and Truman, who installed the door could not have been better! Very impressed with both the door AND the installation by Truman! We previously had Don's install lifetime guarantee springs in our 30yr old door 2 years ago, and got an appropriate credit for them on the new doors cost. In or around August 2025, I contacted Don's Garage Doors to service my garage doors. The technician, Brian Rempel, arrived as scheduled and was courteous. At the time of service, one garage door required maintenance and the second door was completely inoperable. The technician serviced only one door and advised that the spring on that door needed to be replaced, stating it was undersized. Relying on this professional representation, I agreed to the replacement. I was charged in excess of $600 for the spring replacement and servicing of that single door and also a $150 for an annual service plan. I also requested an estimate to replace the garage door tracks for both doors and was quoted $2,500 per door. I later obtained a comparable quote through a Costco-affiliated provider for the same work on both doors for a total of $1,500. Based on this information, I believe I was significantly overcharged. As a senior customer, this raises serious concerns regarding deceptive business practices and potential exploitation. Additionally, the original spring that was removed appeared nearly new and was retained by the technician, preventing independent verification of whether replacement was necessary. I also felt pressured into purchasing a service plan that I later determined was unnecessary. Taken together, these circumstances support a reasonable belief that deceptive practices and theft occurred. This experience reflects a lack of transparency and ethical standards. I ordered a new garage door. The quoting process went really good. it was easy to get an appointment and I had a quote by the end of the day. When my technician showed up to install the new door, he said he would be done in about 5 hours. it took him over 9 hours. He was also on face time a lot asking for assistance with the installation. This made me skeptical of the quality of work. However, I did feel that the technician worked very hard the entire installation. There were a few things that I did not like about the installation process. 1. The brand new door had multiple dents in it. This was rectified though the warranty process. 2. The technician wanted to install the new trim/seal over the existing trim. He claimed this would prevent light from coming through the seams. This just seemed lazy to me, but he agreed to take off the old trim and put the new trim on as discussed in the quote. 3. The technician late in the day asked if I wanted new safety sensors. I replied "yes" because this was apart of the new system I purchased. I felt like this was another attempt at cutting corners. 4. I was quoted a system with extension springs, but the system was swapped for a zero clearance design that used torsion springs. This reduced the overhead space in my garage. I wasn't charged extra for this, but I was never consulted about this change. read more

Dishonest and unethical. I made an appointment for a $29 garage door tuneup. I was told nothing else. When the technician arrived, the total was $150 or something. He said there is a $110 trip charge. I said I was not doing it, so then he wanted the $110 for the trip. When I absolutely refused to pay it, he called the office. They agreed to do the tuneup for $29 + tax. I'm not sure I trust their work. And I certainly didn't want to give this company my credit card info, so I paid by check. I had Don's garage doors come out to repair one of the springs on my garage door that had broken. The guy immediately told me "oh you have a Martin door, they have proprietary parts." In another words, this is going to cost you....He then went on to inspect and show me ALL the other problems that I had with the door. The quote he gave me to replace both springs was $1262.96 for mid grade springs and $1640.67 for premium springs. My mouth just about hit the concrete....I declined the repair and just paid the trip charge of $64 and told him I would be getting other quotes. I have since found HONEST companies, who will give you free estimates and settled on a company that quoted me about $500 to replace both springs. What a racket this company has going!!!! I would stay away from using these con artists!
