outrageously over price...do your homework. here is what AI said about my costs: $3,000 is well above the typical price for replacing a standard 2-car garage door opener (with rail), torsion springs, and rollers. For comparison, a typical installed total is: * Opener with rail: $400-$900 * Pair of torsion springs: $250-$500 * Rollers: $150-$300 That puts most jobs in the $1,000-$1,400 range, with $1,500-$1,800 being more common if you're getting a premium opener or additional parts replaced. A $3,000 quote could be reasonable only if it includes significant additional work, such as: * A brand-new garage door * New tracks * New cables, drums, bearings, and bottom brackets * Structural repairs to the framing * A premium wall-mounted opener with extra accessories * Multiple doors being serviced If it's just one existing 2-car garage door and they're replacing the opener, rail, springs, and rollers, $3,000 would be much higher than I'd expect. read more

I was not informed of the $155.40 charge for the "worry-free club." I am unfamiliar with this service. This is unacceptable and a very unethical sales tactic. To be candid, this is not the "Don's Garage Door" I am accustomed to over the past 20 years @ mulitple personal and investment properties. I have contacted other companies (& my realtor) and found Don's prices significantly higher than your competition, not to mention the (new, more aggressive sales tactics. The multiple online reviews reflect my sentiments. We have utilized Don's Garage Door for the past 20 years at three different residences (Seth) and will consider other options in the future. read more

Ridiculous spam sales calls after your service. Don's is no longer a small, locally owned business. They are a franchise. Avoid if you don't want that experience. Nothing like coming home on a Saturday night, closing the bay door to the garage, and hearing a crash. Turns out the noise was the bay door dropping the last 18 inches or so. Our spring had snapped. After unsuccessfully trying to manually free our vehicles, my husband quickly scheduled an appointment with Don's for first thing Monday morning. The technician was prompt, polite, and thorough, communicating with us every step of the way. He was upfront about what we needed, showed us the wear on the parts he recommended replacing, and gave us options at different levels based on how often we use the garage. Best of all, there was no pressure to upsell to a new door or unnecessary extras. Less than 2.5 hours after arrival, we had a quiet, smooth-operating bay door. Pricey? Sure, especially right after the holidays, but absolutely worth the peace of mind and the ability to come and go without relying on others for rides. read more

Creepy sales tactics. Guy shows up early in the morning, blocks my driveway with his truck, walks around taking pictures of my house. When he finally rings the doorbell we play a recording telling him nicely that we're not interested. He ignores it, knocks on the door, wakes my kid up. I have to go out in my pajamas and tell him to leave the property. I saw him do the same thing to multiple other houses on my block. read more

My only suggestion is to get a second opinion and ask about hidden fees. I had a coupon for $29 tune up. I paid $130 that day for the tune up and the technician recommended over $3000 worth of work. Called Don's Garage Doors to tune and upgrade my 20 year old garage door. My technician, Zachariah Crewse showed up in the 1st hour of the 3 hour window I was given. He was friendly and very professional in keeping me posted on the progress of the work requested. He gave me a time frame of how long the work would take and beat his estimate. He did a great job and left me with a door that was better than when new with upgraded cables, rollers and springs. Don's will be my go to for future service and I will request that Zach be sent as my technician. read more

I must have fallen into a parallel universe because we had Don's Garage Doors out today and my experience was nothing but 5 stars throughout. (I've also used A1 Garage Doors twice for my own house with complete satisfaction so I'm not sure why some reviewers say Don's merging with A1 is the kiss of death.) Both door springs broke on a family member's garage door and she called Don's because she'd used them before. I offered to be at the house when Don's arrived because I was a residential contractor and service guy in a past life. The springs broke early evening Wednesday and they scheduled us for service the next morning. Before Gerrit arrived I got a text on my phone saying he was on his way and it included his bio with a picture so I'd know more about him. When he arrived he was a gentle giant of a man who patiently answered every question I had (and I had plenty). He took the time to explain everything in easy-to-understand terms. We opted for the best springs so there would be a lifetime warranty. Gerrit pointed out many issues about the door I would have missed and fixed each of them as part of the service call. He thoroughly inspected the entire door and its operations. He found most of it was in excellent shape, but showed me how the cables and rollers were cheap and dying. He gave me the pros and cons of each repair option and we decided to purchase the best parts for the repairs. Being as I was a contractor and service guy for many years, I know sales talk when I hear it and I know when someone isn't knowledgeable and blowing smoke when answering questions. Gerrit did none of this. He was an ethical gentleman who gave me the straight story about what was needed and not needed. I never felt he was selling anything. His main concern was gaining another satisfied customer before he left which is exactly what he did. read more

The rollers on our garage door were going bad. Loud, clacky and were resisting the garage door opener. Drew did a full inspection of our door and came up with a few recommendations. He clearly knows garage doors and took care of business within thirty minutes. Typically is despise services like this coming go the house as it always ends in high pressure sales conversations for things I don't even need. Very typical in HVAC companies. Drew only pointed a few things, showed me the estimate and let me decide. No pressure, no games and no stress. It only cost me 130 dollars or so to have all the rollers replaced, everything lined up and the garage door opened lubricated. I was very happy with my service and the price. Drew was a nice guy and fun to chat with. I don't have many issues with garage door and/or garage door opener but I will use Don's Garage Door if and when I do. Thank you, Drew. read more

We recently had a mishap with our garage door. Upon shutting the door, the spring broke and our door dropped down about 2 feet from the ground. I tried to enable manual opening but alas the cables also lost tension and the door was not opening straight so was stuck. Trapping both my wife's and my car inside our garage in the process. Don's to the rescue. This happened on a Saturday night and through the ease and convenience of their online scheduling platform, we were able to get an appointment first thing Monday morning. We didn't deem it an emergency so didn't opt for a Sunday appointment. AJ was our tech and he was very pleasant, communicative, professional, and efficient. He asked great questions to determine the best equipment for our purposes, finding the right spring and associated parts for our garage and opener. He explained all the benefits of each price point completely. The job was completed in a couple of hours. Don's has a few different price points so it can be as expensive as you like or you can try to keep it wallet friendly. All in all the work, the skill, and the optional coverages that came with it made our cost well worth it. I would highly recommend their services! read more

Great technical skills! Pleasant personality! Call prior to arrival. Consistently good service.

In March, our garage door opener failed. Don's technician said the motor was burnt out and parts weren't available due to age. We purchased a new opener from them since the cost was similar to purchasing ourselves but supposedly came with a lifetime warranty. He claimed to have inspected the tracks, rollers, and everything else to prevent future issues. Four months later, the door came off the tracks while closing--nearly hitting our car--and wouldn't close at all. We left an urgent voicemail at midnight. Instead of a call, they texted an automated text for me to schedule my own appointment the next morning. We had to wait two days for a tech while leaving our garage door open and house unsecured. Once there, he told us it wasn't covered--warranty only applied to the opener itself, not labor or track-related issues which we were under the impression it was a warranty for the previous service as well. We hadn't fixed it sooner thinking it was under warranty, but it wasn't. My husband bought $100 in parts at Home Depot and fixed it the same day. Don's quoted us $1,000. We were charged $60 for the visit, which we expected and the invoice falsely claimed he tested the remotes (which were locked in our cars), the keypad (he didn't know the code), and that the door worked properly--the included picture shows how he left it, which could not close for his so called inspections. We won't be using Don's again and can't recommend them if you expect honest documentation or a warranty that actually covers anything useful. read more

NO INTEGRITY. Terrible, lying, scumbags!! Yesterday, when my 2-year old garage door wouldn't close properly and Don's garage door told me that one of the springs had failed and I needed to spend between $2000-$3000 to buy new springs, rollers and a new rod. I thought that was utterly ridiculous and today I had Accent Garage Doors (recommended by my realtor friend) come take a look at it and they charged me $125 for a tune up and said there was nothing wrong with my springs. They tightened the springs a little and oiled the rollers and now it's working fine. Accent also said that if I ever needed new springs, it was $625, not thousands of dollars. Don's Garage Door Repair blatantly lied to me to try and take advantage of me and the whole experience felt super gross including their scummy sales person they put me on the phone with to "give me their best price". Crazy that a company can get away with these disgusting tactics but lots of people just pay them it seems. read more

Read the most recent reviews of this company. They are trading on goodwill built over years, but they are not the same company. Would not provide even rough estimate of spring replacement over phone. "Don's" had installed my door, but they were bought by private equity (a1 garage doors) and it's a totally different company. You might get lucky, but you'll probably over pay by a least a few hundred. The "helpful" a1 garage doors website says two new springs start at $750 on one of their blog posts. I had an honest, super skilled local independent install two high quality springs in less than 30 minutes for under $500. read more

I recently had my broken garage door spring and TorqueMaster system replaced by Don's Garage Doors in Windsor, CO, and the experience left me very uneasy about their pricing and follow‑through. When the technician arrived, he did not really diagnose the problem first; he immediately started building quotes on his tablet. I specifically asked him to verify that the spring was the issue, and only then did he briefly try to lift the door and say, "Yes, it's the spring," before going right back to quoting. He presented three quote "tiers," and I focused on the middle one with two springs and a five‑year warranty. That first quote was over $2,100, which was shocking given that typical conversion work on a Wayne Dalton TorqueMaster system is usually in the $450-$600 range for parts and labor according to independent 2026 guides. I told him my research (through AI and online cost guides) suggested something closer to $500-$600, not four times that. From there, the numbers kept changing. He said he would "throw some items in for free" and produced another quote around $1,700. Still far too high. After he called his office, they mentioned roughly $1,500. I told him I needed to talk to my wife; we both still felt it was too much. Eventually the quote dropped again to around $1,300. At that point I told them we would be willing to pay about twice what my research suggested--$1,100--or we would look elsewhere. They agreed. The constant back‑and‑forth and big jumps in price felt more like negotiating a car than a straightforward home repair. Even after agreeing, I never felt good about paying roughly double what independent cost estimates show for this kind of work. The next day I called Don's to ask for a supervisor. I was told someone would call me back within 48 hours. Four days went by with no call, so I called again and finally got a call later that day. When I explained what happened, the supervisor told me I got a "great deal" and that "people pay $2,100 all day." He pointed to the warranty as justification, but when I noted that it sounded like just the manufacturer's spring warranty--not some special in‑house coverage--he acknowledged that. He offered me an additional $50 refund, which I accepted, but I then reviewed my paperwork expecting to see the detailed warranty they kept referencing. There was no link, no written terms, and no information about the spring manufacturer or the actual warranty conditions. I called Don's again to ask for the warranty details. I was told there is usually a link and that they would call me back with the information. It has now been about a month with no follow‑up, no link, and still no written warranty terms. In the end, my door works, but I feel I had to negotiate my way down from an inflated starting price, was never given clear written warranty documentation, and experienced poor responsiveness when I tried to follow up. I would strongly recommend that anyone considering Don's: * Demand a clear diagnosis before any pricing. * Get all quotes in writing and compare them to independent cost guides. * Insist on written warranty terms and the manufacturer name before agreeing to the work. Based on my experience, I do not feel the pricing transparency or follow‑through matched the professional image Don's advertises on their own site and in their marketing. read more

PLEASE BE VERY CAUTIOUS... The sales tactics are predatory and dishonest. Truly! I was originally quoted over $900 for a fix and $4100 for a new garage door. After hours of pushy sales, including an awkward phone call with the 'main office' while the sales guy sat in my house. The 'main office' blatantly lied and talked down to me. Saying things like "Oh I can't believe how lucky you are! We have ONE garage door on the factory floor that my manager needs gone in the next four hours!" All said and done, I had to get help with a fix and it ended up being over $600 and an offer for the same door, same springs, same insulation but $2000.00 less. The in person customer representative even said it makes him sick the sales practices that are used and how much they take advantage of customers, including the elderly. This whole experience was so gross. My garage door was fixed, the tech was on time, texted before they came. All that was great and I would still say NEVER EVER use this company. My neighbors saw the van and reached out to share similar stories. If you use them PLEASE be ready to fight for hours to still get an over priced offer. read more

Nate is a great asset to this company, he is personable, knowledgeable and, I believe, honest. The upsell attempts a lot of people mention here happened, but it was not high pressure at all, which I appreciate. Hopefully that statement doesn't get him in trouble with his management. ;-) I paid a bit more than I was expecting. Yep. But the truth is that I couldn't get anyone else to drive the 30 miles up to Idaho Springs so I don't mind paying them a bit more to make the trip. I thought my outside keypad was hard-wired and didn't want to mess with it, so I called them to replace it. Turns out it was wireless (that one's on me), but they still charged me about $200 to replace what's roughly a $50 part. While they were there, they did an inspection I didn't ask for and said the door was way out of balance. Fair enough; the door is very heavy, which suggests the torsion springs are failing. The tech then quoted me around $1,600, which he said was the cheaper of two options. After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I told him I wasn't doing that, my internal red flag said that price was way out of line. He followed up by saying he could call his manager to see if there was a better price. Why not lead with the better price? I declined again. The next day, I called two other highly rated garage door companies. One quoted $500 all-in to replace the springs, the other $380; both well-reviewed contractors. Don's may do good work, but they definitely charge a premium for what is, at the end of the day, fairly commodity work. read more

When it came time to replace our garage doors, we turned to Dan's Garage Doors, as the company we had previously used had been purchased by them. We still did our due diligence--checking reviews and confirming that Dan's was recommended by Team Dave Logan, our trusted source for home services. Unfortunately, the experience that followed was extremely disappointing from start to finish. In August, we met with Travis, who did a great job explaining our options. We ordered two doors and were told they would arrive in four weeks. My husband even arranged to take the installation day off work. By mid-afternoon, however, no one had arrived. When we called the company, we learned--only then--that the installation had been put on hold because one of the doors was damaged. No one had contacted us to let us know. Dan's rescheduled the installation for later that week, using temporary panels in a completely different color while new panels were reordered. During that installation, we pointed out that the second door was also the wrong color. The installer insisted it was correct and that we were mistaken. Since our house was being painted the next day, we asked if we could keep the temporary panels, as they would be painted anyway. We were told that this was not allowed due to manufacturer defects and that the entire replacement process had to be repeated. When we asked whether Dan's would offer a discount to offset the additional cost of our painters having to return--especially since we were required to pay in full even though one door was incomplete--we were told no. Discounts are not offered until a job is fully complete. Two weeks later, the replacement panels arrived. When the installer came to swap out the temporary panels, he discovered that one of the original panels was also damaged and confirmed that the color was, in fact, wrong. A completely new door had to be reordered--again. We were told they would rush the order. After a week and a half with no update, we called for a status. Later that week, we were informed that the new door would not arrive until November 7th--five more weeks. We called to explain that this was unacceptable, as we would lose the opportunity to paint the doors before winter. We were told a manager would call us back within a day to discuss options. No one ever called. By early November, after speaking with Dan's support staff at least six times and receiving little to no help, we gave up waiting and decided to live with the dented garage door and painted the garage doors. On November 13th -- three months after our initial order and six weeks after the second reorder--we finally received notice that the door had arrived. Throughout this entire process, we received no apology, no discount, no ownership of the repeated mistakes, and no meaningful communication. This was truly terrible customer service, and based on our experience, we cannot recommend Dan's Garage Doors. read more

Avoid this place - they used to be great but now they're owned by a huge company, A1 Garage, and they have gone way down hill since that. I was desperate for new openers last year and I hadn't seen that they were bought out so I called them and they came out and installed two new side mount openers to the tune of $5K. Right off the bat, one of them didn't work, and even though I had their "Worry free club" that guarantees service within 24 hours, they didn't come back for three days. After multiple visits they just replaced the opener. All was fine until last week when we got an excessive force warning on our big door. I called them and they sent a tech out that advised nothing was wrong but he did a tune up as part of the worry club. Two days later (today) I open the garage and the wire snaps and now my garage is stuck at 30% open. I call Dons and they say they can come out on Monday. This place is an absolute joke and should be avoided - these reviews are either from the OG Dons or they are fake. Also, they tried to pressure me into their stupid club again to which I said no, and then they asked if my cleaners could sign up for it since I wasn't home. They're a joke - avoid at all costs. read more

The founder (Don) retired five years ago and sold out to a group from Arizona that promptly raised prices - a lot. You can expect prices to be double or triple what a local installer would charge. Met with a Technician to get a quote for a new single car garage door on October 21st. Technician was very professional and knowledgeable about what would need done to replace the garage door. He showed me samples and a door grade and style were selected. I was told a product specialist would be in contact with me to finalize the quote. No one called me back. After the initial site consultation and not hearing back from a product specialist I called Don's Garage Doors two times over a two-week period and each time explained the situation, which they confirmed as they had my information on file. Both times they transferred me to a product specialist and each time I had to leave a message. My third call to Don's was on October 31st at which point I let the rep (Paul) know I was no longer interested in having Don's install a new garage door as I selected another company (Ankmar) to complete the work. Ankmar provided a quote within minutes before leaving the site. I cannot recommend Don's Garage Doors to anyone due to their unwillingness to submit a simple quote for a garage door replacement.
