Don's in Aurora is definitely NOT recommended. I chose to schedule their $29 29-point check-up/tune-up. When the technician arrived, he was friendly and professional. He recommended new springs which I agreed to and I opted for those with a "lifetime warranty." Garett installed the springs and when I was paying, I asked about the warranty information and an invoice showing paid. He said that the office staff would send those out. Over 3 weeks and no invoice, no warranty information and no responses to calls and emails. I did receive a copy of the 29-point check-up with a FORGED signature in the "customer signature" block. I never saw this before and definitely did not sign like a 4 year old (see image). I've been waiting for "Trey" from Don's corporate office (DON'S IS NO LONGER FAMILY OWNED) to return my calls but he too ghosted me. Very overpriced. Great response time and good service, however extremely overpriced. I executed because I did not have time to deal with the issue at hand. Later in the day, I reached out to THREE other companies to get quotes for the same repair. ALL THREE were substantial cheeper. I made sure I was comparing apples to apples. Go elsewhere, Don's Garage door is over priced, they replacement a spring for me over the summer and it cost approx 1k... Springs are about 80-100 bucks. Look online at Amazon, for the same spring, ALL made in China! Also they do not honor their Five year warranty, the so call manager told me that the see that I had Two service calls but since they merged with A1 Garage they can't see what I was charged for, what a bunch of BS. WARNING! This is not the old Don's Garage Doors. Sold in August 2022 to an out-of-state company with sketchy business practices. Called at 4pm for emergency service and was told the charge was $200 just to show up. Was told service tech would be here between 6-8. Lon Wright arrived at 7:55pm. Then I was quoted another $400 just to get the door down. Lon got the door closed, but I was told not to operate it. He then told me it would take another 20-30 minutes to get the repair estimate. I asked if he could call me with it the next day. Lon's van drove away at 8:48pm, 55 minutes after arriving. I had to call the office to get an invoice. The invoice, which was the exact amount I was quoted, charged sales tax on the "repair". They told me that a spring was included, so it was taxable, but I said no, it was only labor, the invoice stated only labor, and I have security video of the entire process, if they would like the footage. I had to sign-off on the cost before Lon started work, so that price included sales tax before the work was done! They said they would review the invoice, but didn't have a record of my call when I called again, 9 days later, to check the progress. Someone called back that day to verify my complaint. Wait, what? Still don't see a refund on my cc. I'm filing a complaint with CDOR and suggesting an audit. I also inquired about the repair estimate since I didn't get a call. Lon returned my call and told me we would have to meet and measure again, and they would supply an immediate phone quote. That was just their process. I bought the door from Don's in 2015, and it's a standard 16x7 door by one of their standard manufacturers. The repair is to replace one panel and 7 ft of vinyl weather stripping. Lon told me to expect about $1800. (The entire door was $1500, installed, in 2015). I mentioned to Lon that I would be getting multiple estimates, which may be why Don's written estimate came in lower at $1200. The work was completed by Lakewood Garage Door for $640. $600 to close a door is price gouging and taking advantage of an old woman in a vulnerable situation. FYI, Don's service technicians are paid a salary plus commission their first year, and commission only thereafter. Other reviewers have indicated problems with pricing, sales tax, lack of invoice and refunds, which tells me that sketchy business practices are the norm. if you like the feeling of buying a used car, this might be your company. When I refused to move forward with the initial bid, the technician called his manager who, after careful consideration, decided to cut that estimate by almost half. Almost half! unreal. Roughly half of the items reviewed on their inspection checklist "failed". Not a rating of maintenance needed, but outright failed. This was on a door with a broken spring that was otherwise functioning normally. I used them almost ten years ago and was pleased enough with that experience. If there was a way i would have done such. I've read multiple reviews on Yelp only after i had experience with Don's Garage Doors. After the technician did his tune up and evaluated the one door that would not go down i was called inside the garage for him to explain to me but he felt the problem was. After entering my garage he had laid out a brand new package of cables and a spring that was broken. Amongst other issues he came to suggest was wrong, ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ they proceeded to show me my broken spring and came up with a quote of $1,200. I was already aware of what a replacement spring cost which is anywhere from 60 to $120 dollars. The technician then put me on the phone with his boss which was a high pressure sales person and kept me on the phone for nearly 40 minutes trying to convince me to proceed with the job. When I told him I was not interested in the pricing he continued to negotiate and lower the price little by little. In the end he came up with a 480 some odd dollar. I said I still wasn't interested. The technician gathered his tools to put back in the truck period. Here is where the bait and switch occurred. I asked the tech where the spring was that was on the floor of the garage and asked if he had put it back in the garage . He said no it's in my truck. I told him I would like to keep that broken spring . He proceeded to tell me that that was not my spring that he took it out of his truck it was an example. I then asked him how did he know my spring was broken if that was not my spring. He explained to me he did not need to visually inspect my spring because he had been doing his job for a year and automatically knew what the issue was. 2 hours later I am now annoyed and realizing this company is scamming me. One more thing occurred, after quoting me the $29 tune-up for each door he said there was also a $59 travel charge which was never indicated to me by the office nor on the TV ads. I called Don's requesting the $29.50 tune up special on the coupon i got in the mail. they came out two days later. They gave me a 2:00-5:00 time frame and said they would give me a call when the were on the way. I waited and at 4:50 i called to see if they still planned to come today. The guy showed up 10 minutes later, just before 5:00. Said he was going to check my door out and give me results of what he found. This is where the bait and switch started. He said I needed a new bracket at the top of the door to secure the lifting and continued to bad mouth the company who sold me this door. Then he said the rollers were the bad one and were plastic. He showed me their rollers which had ball bearings in them. Those were about $150 or so. Then he said that my springs were bad and he had three types of springs laid out for me to choose from. The cost ranged $1250 0 $1575 or so. He was very critical about my garage door which is only 5 -6 years old. My last door came with the house and lasted approx. 35 years with nothing done to it. I realized I was being put together. I did buy the bracket for $140, and I'm not even sure he did the normal maintance I originally called them to do. I refused the rest and the guy asked if I was going to call other places and compare prices. I said yes I was. He said that others might cost less, but the quality won't be as good. It was bought out by TMII Enterprises whose business model, I presume, allows techs/ installers to charge and pocket what ever they want. Avg cost of an opener $350. I was charged $1290. Don's Garage Door Review Do not use this company! They use high pressure sales plus bait and switch techniques. We had a hail claim, we needed a single insulated garage door. Don's Garage Door was recommended to us by a contractor. It was easy to make the appointment, the technician showed up on time. When he looked at the brand of door that we already have the technician said it would be very expensive to use the same door brand, Ankmar, he explained they were very overpriced and difficult to deal with, but his company could custom build a door and it would be cheaper than Ankmar. Tech said the spring would need to be replaced as well as the rail, plus all new hardware. They would have to build a "custom" door, and he would have to go out to his truck and call the office to build the quote and said it could take some time. The technician sat on his phone for about 45 minutes, when he was done, he had some person from the office on speaker phone who would verbally go over the quote. I told him I did not want to go over it by speaker phone, I wanted the quote emailed to me. The person on the phone quoted me $7,000 dollars for a single insulated garage door with upgraded spring and hardware plus a 5 year service maintenance package. I asked for an emailed quote to compare their door versus the Ankmar door and was told they could not source the Ankmar door, they had to custom build it. We asked the person on the phone to provide a quote with their standard custom door with no upgrades and no maintenance package and he said it would be around $5,200. The person on the phone asked several times if we wanted to finance the door and that they would need a 50% deposit before they left our property. We asked for the quote to be emailed to us so we had proof of the ridiculous price they quoted. Needless to say the quote only had their brand of door, we even called the office and asked for a revised quote. Have not heard back. We reached out to Ankmar and they came out quickly and we were quoted $1,900 for the door, rails, new spring, plus installation. My garage door was acting erratically, opening all the way occasionally, opening only partially at other times. Don's sent a technician, who told me the springs and garage door opener both needed to be replaced. He gave three estimates, ranging from $1,511.67 to $2,753.48. I wanted a second opinion, so I called Ankmar, the company I bought the door from two years ago. Their technician tightened one door rail and rehung the opener on more solid supports. He told me the springs and opener were working fine. The total charge was $99, and the door has worked perfectly ever since. I think Don's wanted to get in my pocket. I won't use them again. read more
