Really like their specials....very good staff serving fresh seafood. Love the hush puppies. Can buy sandwiches, plates or by the pound.

The large fried shrimp were delicious! The people were very friendly and the service was great.

Great Service & Food. Long time favorite. We keep coming back for more. Enjoy the monthly specials. read more

I was here on 8/15 for dinner with a friend. It has been 7 years since I had been there, sorry it took so long to come back. We both had the Sea Breeze Citrus Lobster Salad which was delicious. I took a half pint of Lobster Bisque home and had it for lunch the next day, I wish I had got the fill pint. It was so yummy, it's a small store front with a few tables and picnic tables outside. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating which made the experience enjoyable. I'll definitely be back read more

I Seefood I like at Don's Dock! I drive past Don's Dock all the time and have been wanting to try, and I'm glad I did. I really had a taste for a lobster roll.... On a trip to Maine years back I had Lobster and lobster rolls every day I was there. Up there they typically do melted butter, but I'm happy with the mayo based rolls too. Over the years of trying lobster rolls in Chicago, I can tell you Don's Dock has the best lobster roll locally besides the ones in New England. Tons of lobster! That brings me to my next item, the New England clam chowder. Very very good. I could visibly see huge chunks of clam, so I've drawn the conclusion that Don is a generous person. The fried calamari was really good which came with fries. Wow, some really good fries too. Lastly we tried a small cup of the jambalaya, and was good too. I would definitely recommend Don's.... I like Don's better than the other seafood place down the street.... Boston Fish Market.... you can see my review here on Yelp read more

Prices have gotten very expensive here. I used to frequently dine here. Even the soups which I love are $$. Plus they changed the bread to dip in your soup to a dinner role. Disappointing. read more

I really wanted to like this place because of the high reviews but it really was disappointing. After a few attempts to beat the busy signal on the phone, I was able to get through and order dinner. Arrived at the approx pick up time and waited a few more minutes for the order to be ready (no problem here). Staff was friendly and they read your order to make sure everything is correct. Came home excited to eat and after taking a few bites of the grilled Cajun catfish, noticed the center wasn't fully cooked. It was slimy and raw. Disappointed, I figured I'd just eat the grilled salmon and hoped that was better. It wasn't. This time it was way overcooked. So dry it was hard to cut. It's so unfortunate because everything was great until the food. Hopefully it was an off day for the chef but I cannot recommend this place. read more

Raising a star...came here again and it REALLY hit the spot. Their remoulade is the best. Full of fresh herbs. Shrimp po boy always a hit. Decided to treat myself w a crab cake which I hadn't had before from here and it did not disappoint. More crab then filler. Very moist. Maybe a dot of shell but it was delicious. Service was friendly and prompt. Looked over the other offerings outside of fried and I decided I have to come back in August for Lobster fest. read more

Not a bargain but the best fish you'll ever eat. The menu selection is quite unbelievably gigantic and it will take some time to figure out what you want. It's a "take a number" and place your order at the cash register-type of place but there are tables and it's very clean and cute to eat in. We were completely delighted and left full of intention to return. read more

I just tried Don's Dock takeout for the first time. The food traveled about 20 min from restaurant to table. We ordered family style so we can try a lot. We ordered: 2lbs fried large shrimp, 1lb of fried clam strips, 1lb of snow crab and a few sides. This was more than enough food for 4 people - and everyone loved it! The food was still very crispy as they know how to pack an order correctly. The snow crab was the best I've ever had. I'll definitely be ordering again! read more

Service great-I am super sad about last nights food. 30 min drive there not worth it, lobster roll- bread was nuked and hard, chewy filling no flavor. Shrimp was ok - hot fresh but over cooked so crunchy hard i thought I would loose a cap. I called and to let them know about expensive lobster roll issues and mike was accommodating and offered credit - no thank you . Why would you nuke or give stale bread for lobster roll - definitely not toasted or grilled. I won't go back and now I will learn how to cook this myself . Don't waste your time go nearest chicken place if you have a taste for shrimp. read more

Small local favorite for good seafood, the staff and owner is always personable. We have tried multiple items in the menu including monthly specials, everything we've had has been excellent. We have even bought fresh salmon priced cheaper than Mariano's and much better quality. read more

Have been a patron for many of years. Never have been disappointed, Great French fried shrimp. French fried fish, Keylime pie, as well as many other items. It is more of a carry out location, but there are tables to Dine In if you wish. read more

The owners and staff are very friendly. This is my favorite local spot to get fish from and pretty much the entire menu is excellent. Wayyyy overpriced! I stopped here as I was traveling through town and decided to give a shot! I ordered a lobster roll NOT a lobster salad roll! They served me lobster SALAD roll and still charged $23 it was small and full of fillers and had lil pieces of lobster ‍ a lobster roll is all lobster and a lobster salad roll is filled with you k ow! Salad! And price should be adjusted accordingly! Also ordered "LARGE" fried shrimp which were small and served with ketchup which they called cocktail sauce umm NO! So over $34 for two tiny items that I get quite frequently so I have enough experience to know this place is a no go! I'm guessing they have the good reviews from locals that don't travel out of neighborhood so they believe their getting great seafood at a great price! If you want something good and for a decent price keep looking ! read more

Amazing little place! Food is delicious and staff is so friendly. I love that this little place is family owned and operated.

My family has been getting Don's Dock since I was little (probably over a decade of loyalty!!). The food here is delicious, and also a nostalgic taste that throws me back to my childhood. We always get bags of shrimp, fish chips, and extra cocktail sauce on the side. Sooooo crispy and fresh. I've tried the fried cod and also a bit of the crabcakes, but honestly....the shrimp and regular fish chips are going to forever be the staples. I usually love fried cod, but something about the regular fish chips (which are actually cheaper than cod) makes for something that I can't stray from. We only order from here once in a while, but everytime I come home to those little brown bags steaming on the table......pure fried bliss. read more

Love Dons Dock! Just a little place but the food is awesome-- I love the lobster roll! Prices are reasonable too, especially the monthly specials. There are just a few tables, very casual; you place your order and wait for your number to be called. You can eat in or carry out. read more

Always drive by Dock's during work and finally I stop to try it. Man let me tell you it was and honestly one of the the best local seafood places in the area, if not the best. I love this place! The servers are efficient and congenial, no matter how busy they are at the time...and they do get busy. It is service with a smile! There are tables to eat in the restaurant, and two outside, but many customers order carryout. When an order is taken, whether over the phone or at the counter it will be repeated to you to be sure it is correct. And you will be told how long it will take for the food to be prepared. You can ask for advice on the menu items and they will all be explained to you. And the food!!! A great menu. Always consistently prepared and packed so the items do not get soggy on the way home. It is my favorite place for seafood. read more

It's decent. Reliably good. Clam chowder has great flavor but it's thick like porridge. Fried shrimp is good. I've ordered some fish entrees that were also good. Service is prompt and friendly. Casual place for takeout. Not sure if there are tables inside. We've always gotten takeout. read more

Sadly worst meal ever had here. Softshell crab overcooked and tasteless for $18 . Don't order it, stick with other staples.

Amazing seafood place in Des Plaines. It's been around for over 50+ years and I definitely understand why. They have a wide variety of seafood from different types of fresh fish, shrimps, scallops, etc. They have a mini market to take uncooked food home or you can eat here and have them cook their amazing food for you. They have a variety of monthly specials as well as selling fried fish by the pound. They have so many meal options to choose from. I went with with the Maryland Crab Cakes, Scallops Special, and Combo Plate. All amazing Their prices are all reasonable for a seafood place. Service here is very fast and prompt. Nice people working at the counter and cleaning tables. They have some indoor seating and benches outside. Will definitely try more off their menu sometime! read more

We've lived in Des Plaines for about 3 years, but only recently tried Don's Dock. On this particular evening we ordered the grilled salmon dinner, fried shrimp dinner, crab cakes and some sort of seafood linguine pasta. The salmon was by far my favorite. I'd come here weekly just for this. The portion was great and the fish also came with rice, broccoli and a biscuit. The fried shrimp dinner with fries was also tasty. Hubs had the pasta and said it was great. Crab cakes were good, but I wouldn't order them again....I kept biting into hard bits of something; maybe parts of a shell? All this food for less than $60. We wouldn't normally order this much, but it was my birthday and our first time here. We indulged. We'll definitely be back. read more

Nothing was good. Jambalaya was too sweet, soft-shell crab had this brick like (I kid you not) breading that was nothing short of awful. The crab stuffed shrimp: shrimp were dry and stuffing was a lump of mushy something or another. It was surely not the feast we were expecting (nothing close to the food they served in the past). just a total disappointment . read more

A mixed bag of a review. I've been there several times now, both to eat in and carry out, and overall most things are quite good as quick, counter-purchased seafood goes. The hush puppies are especially good -- lots of sweet cornbread. I've learned to substitute these for fries when I get a meal. The coconut shrimp, stuffed shrimp, and really just about any shrimp, is also good. I've tried several kinds now and each is good. I prefer the fried shrimp dinner with the smaller shrimp, because there are no tails to mess with. The big disappointment was when they had a king crab leg special in May. The price was decent, although they were still fairly pricey (I'm thinking about $40 if I remember correctly), and they came out tasting like they'd been cooked in a microwave and a bit overdone. I decided not to complain, telling myself I should have known better than to order king crab at a small, neighborhood mostly fried seafood place, but I at least expected them to boil it and not ;put it in the microwave. What's the difference between the two? Well, some of the smaller pieces were so dried out that they weren't even worth eating. I'm going to stick to Bob Chinn's for my crab from now on. As far as what they're good at, though, it's quite good. The lobster roll is chock full of chunks of lobster, the coleslaw is nice and creamy, and the bisque is very, very good. And the service has always been very pleasant and fast. I'll keep going back about once a month like I do now, I'll just avoid the temptation to order crab again. read more

I want to be nice but the food was horrible. The breading did not stay on the calamari. The fish was not great. It was not fillets or nice chunks of fish, it's like fallen apart bites of fish that were over fried. The hush puppies were bland. The coleslaw was warm, kinda like the rest of the food... Warm. It was delivered so I'm going to give 2 stars versus the 1 that it really tasted like because maybe it wouldn't be as bad in person. read more

Plain, simple, clean. Imagine, you walk into a fish market and it doesn't smell fishy! Immaculate display case of fresh seafood. Order at counter eat in or take out. Sorry to post this. I ordered the large shrimp tray for Christmas and 4 small container crab dip, which cost over $200.00. Crab dip was good. However the shrimp were wet and limp the lettuce it was on was also wet when I opened the tray. I actually had to throw much of it out because people took one and no more, Some people actually threw out the part they did not eat. I was told that if I saved the shrimp they would have looked at it if I brought it back after Christmas. During the clean up of appetizers in prep for meal table room we tossed them. Letting you all know this in case it happens to you to save your shrimp and bring them back. This is the first time I ever ordered from this place so I will not again. I will order from the other place I used. So disappointed. I understand how they cannot refund money, however serving wet limp shrimp on wet lettuce was the worst part that even a refund would not help. I do not like writing this bad review but I feel I have too so people know that in case it happens to you bring your platter back after it is picked over. sorry. read more

Each of the employees are so friendly, accommodating to your requests, and very enjoyable. This place is so quaint with the small diner and pinic places outside. The chatter, laughter, and fantastic food just add to what is almost a lost art. This is not just a wonderful restuarant with the best seafood. This is a memorable happy experience! read more

World's worst seafood! Man and wow. For starters do not get anything fried! Way way way too much coating on smelt and Lake Perch! It had no flavor and overcooked as I could not tell what I was eating as it had no flavor. Also no crawfish so ordered an Oyster po-boy. Again no flavor, way way too much coating and overcooked and no flavor. Coleslaw is even slopped in way too much juice and mayo, maybe try a lighter version and red wine vinegar? I wasted 60$ for several meals but threw 90% of it out read more

I like that this place is family owned, trying to do social distanced dine in. , only three small tables. I like the selection of fried seafood but for fresh seafood it didn't seem fresh. We ordered the king crab legs that were very dry and had freezer burn. The large fried shrimp seemed small in size (not portion), the sides and oysters in the refrigerator didn't look fresh....and the deserts we ordered were hard and dry. My lobster roll was good...but pass on the $9 crab bisque as it was very thick and luke warm. We waited 25 mins bc they forgot our order in the dinner rush...or gave it away, even they didn't know. But all in all its a quaint place that I'm sure we would try again if in the area bc we did come close to closing time ... The customer service seemed genuinely nice people...so I say give this place a try if you are in the area and in the mood for seafood. read more
