A large selection with many free samples!
    David H.

This is a fairly new shop where a deli once stood. I saw a small advertisement for the store along Northwest Highway and I decided to stop in. I am glad I did. They have a tremendous selection of smoked fish: salmon, trout, cod, sturgeon, and several more. Upon walking in, I found a table full of free samples and was so impressed, I ended up purchasing larger quantities of some of the fish I sampled. I bought some brown sugar cured-smoked-salmon, some smoked salmon with wine, and some smoked cod. All of it was very good. The young woman behind the counter was very friendly and even allowed me to sample several of the pasta salads, which were tasty, but I had come with a hankering for smoked fish. Nevertheless, she was sweet and patient and I found the atmosphere to be very friendly and neighborly. The prices were reasonable as well. I spent under $30 and left with several pounds of smoked fish. My only desire left unfulfilled was that they did not sell smoked chubs, which are hard to find. They also sell fried seafood, but that was certainly not being conveyed too strongly nor was that what I wanted at the time. However, from what I did see of the fried food selection, it looked very appetizing. I'm excited this place is now in the neighborhood and hope it does very well. The congeniality of the employees, the quality of the food, and the reasonable prices all made for a great experience.

Though I was expecting a greater selection of smoked fish, the main player on the day I visited was salmon.

I have written about three checks in the last 20 years but I also rarely carry cash, so it's not a place I'll get to often. But the staff were friendly and I would return if I had cash in hand. Family owned and like many others have stated, they treat you like family. Immediately upon walking in, I was greeted by a butcher who was more than helpful and kind. My husband and I are on a new health journey so I've often times asked MANY questions and he was patient and helpful with every answer. Even with him knowing I didn't have cash and had to leave and come back. Needed some quality burgers and brats for a friend's grilling birthday bash. Picked up beer brats upon recommendation (and a crowd favorite), Mediterranean turkey burgers (super good and I enjoyed them more than my husband did if I'm to be honest), prime rib burgers (currently vacuum sealed in the freezer), skin on hot dogs (best ever), cheddar and jalapeño burger (another fave!), and maybe a couple others I can't recall. Everything so far- fresh and from what I've frozen, has been delicious. We typically shop at Paulina Market so it's been wonderful to find a shop closer at the same level (in our opinion). It is pricey as some have stated but you're paying for what you get. They have an amazing selection of prepared foods as well. Worth stopping in for! Can't wait to restock.

I'm not sure why it's taking me years to do this review however I've been going to seafood city…read moresupermarket since they opened this Chicago location years ago. When it first opened, it was great to see how bright and clean it was and to see all of the incredible stacked foods and items. However, over the years it's definitely been worn down a little bit and could use a new refresh. What has been good is that they really expanded some of the seating area as well as the seafood city Grill area and the food offerings. However even this is slightly inconsistent as far as what's available when it's open, etc. It's also great that this particular location also is able to build out some of the other additional vendors like the bakery by Valerio. Again, though, I wish there was a little bit more consistency and organization throughout. Parking lot is has been quite ample except during peak times. I really wish they would open one in the suburbs as well. The only major disappointing thing was I used to carry the best Chicharron by Saint Michaels and then they absolutely abused and price gouged the bags. And eventually they stopped carrying it. I however, have gone directly to the stores to purchase.

The store is well-organized and clean. As for the grill, I feel like they need to figure things out. On a recent visit, I ordered the pork skewers and the pancit palabok. The pork skewers taste better and are less fatty than before, however, the pieces are much smaller and the price for 4 is $16!!! Huh? These better be organic, happy pigs for that price! The palabok was OK, a little bland. They put a few shrimp in and a couple pieces of hard boiled egg in after putting it in the container which made me feel like they have really done some cost cutting measures. Honestly, I think the call is to eat next door at Max's and then grocery shop. I stopped at the bakery shop conveniently located on my way out and bought pandesal and ensaymda. But I'm guessing that's for a different review! Overall, this place is great for my Filipino staples, not for a eating a meal (unless you don't mind spending $$$).

Out of all the years I've shopped here, there were only a couple times they didn't have something in stock that I wanted. I have to credit this place for curbing my need to going out to eat. Why? Because everything sold can ensure you can make great meals at home. Want to make pho? Chow fun? Bulgogi? Pad Thai? Pancit? If you have a decent recipe or already know what you need, you can make it at home for a fraction of the cost of what your local resto charges. Maybe you just want some frozen dumplings, instant ramyeon, & snacks to go with your new k-drama obsession. This place has it ALL. Everything is organized well, aisles are clean, & there isn't an overwhelming smell of spices & seafood. You can browse the aisles to some k-pop & have a pleasant shopping experience. Also, bonus points for the kitchen section. I bought a new wok here with a lid that I've been really happy with. Definitely shop here for all your Asian foods. They have all types of products. From Thai, to American. They are well stocked. I think the American section had two aisles full of products. Yes H-Mart! Seafood section smelled less fishy than how you usually smell supermarkets to be. Gacha, claw machines. Many mini stores within the market(left side of the store). Beauty stores, hair salon, korean corn dog, korean fried chicken. Even Cuckoo store! There is a cute shop past checkout, next to the korean corn dog shop. I did not discover this until I was checking out. Many hello kitty and pokemon stuff. Slippers, plushies, keychains, pins, patches, stationary items, beauty accessories(brushes, bags, mirrors), alarm clocks, legos, yeah. I spent probably 20-30 minutes browsing and convincing myself "I don't need this...but i REALLY want it" lol. Half of the markets inside were closed on Saturday around 6pm. Only ones open were the two food shops, two dessert shops, hair salon, Shisiedo, another beauty store and Cuckoo as far as I remember. Limited beauty inside the h-mart itself. The little shops had more. Many kitchen supplies as well. I was greeted with many individuals passing out Maxim coffee pack for the holidays. Super sweet! Everyone was so nice too. I almost ended up with 3 for going back in to check out the strip. I did also discover Daiso next to H-Mart, which I went there first. Heaven haha
