    Just the facts, please!

FREE to check it out! I felt like I was perusing an Aunt's donkey collection of curios, posters, photographs and related memorabilia. (No live donkeys to pet or feed here). Super friendly ladies that work there. They would love to share with you the history of the place lasting a short minute. They also have a lot of donkey themed items like shirts, key chains, bags and toys for sale. No pressure to purchase anything but it's nice to support a selfless cause like rescuing donkeys across the land. Worth a quick stop. Lots of parking. Will put a smile on your face! *Eeeeh, awhhh* (donkey talk!)

Mood - Donkeys of course Fun fact about me, if you've been in Vegas long enough, you remember the lions that used to roar and the peacocks sing out in the desert by the M Resort. Well it was an animal sanctuary that I worked at for a long time. And my love for Donkeys started there. So whenever I see anything related to a Donkey I need to check it out. I was driving back from the river and saw Donkey History Museum on the sign. I knew it was a must to put it in my GPS and go check it out immediately. Upon entering was quickly greeted and given the run down of the Museum. If you are into reading and really taking your time this is the perfect place to learn about the impact that Donkeys have had on the US over the course of time. There is so much memorabilia throughout the Museum that is all things Donkey. You can even watch a video in their media area which gives more insights. Would most def recommend especially if you are into supporting charitable causes and animal sanctuaries. There is merch for sale along with a faux panning for gold water exhibit for a charge. The cost to enter the Museum is free. Location is Mesquite- ample parking

As a lover of museums, I made sure to stop at the Donkey History Museum when I was in town. It's an odd juxtaposition of donkey paraphernalia as well as wartime artifacts. Lots and lots of donkey trinkets, miniatures and statues throughout. There are a few spots where the staff encourages selfies, and they do turn out pretty good-the lighting is fantastic! I learned that the museum supports a local donkey rescue. I would love to see it in person, but it doesn't sound like they are set up to do tours. However, the staff were very excited to talk all about it-they seem very passionate about the cause. If you're passing through, take a few minutes to visit this free museum. And maybe buy a thing or two from the gift shop to support the donkeys.

This place is amazing! A must stop and see, really cool people, a very cool story about all the donkeys, history or donkeys and tons of really unique donkey artwork, statues, pictures...etc etc The staff was very friendly and talked about everything in the muesum...and it's free to get in, I did buy a few things to help support the effort.

Stopped her on the way back to Vegas after a trip in Utah. So cute! It's a nice little stop for the kids to look at some donkey things. The staff were really friendly and it's very clean. They had a lot of cute donkey trinkets and information about the history of donkeys and even how they were used in the war. But the best part was the mining they had for the kids. You can buy a bag of dirt for $6.99 and the kids or you can mine for rocks! My kids went crazy on that and said they want to go back again just to mine for rocks again. A good teaching moment about the gold rush. If you are in the area, we definitely recommend stopping by. It's free admission and ample parking in the front. Good pit stop. Glad we found it.

When you hear Donkey History museum, you probably don't think it will be as fascinating as this place is. It has so much information and all sorts of awesome trinkets, figurines, pictures, etc. Also, reasonably priced souvenirs and it is for a good cause.

They were so friendly we loved it. Lots of info. Cute little selfie spots. And lots of souvenirs

There are several glass cases of donkey knickknacks and toys.
    Cindy P.

The museum is small but the work they are doing at the donkey rescue is enormous! The history is mostly in photographs and the glass cases filled with knickknacks and toys. There is also a wonderful new mining sleuth and some great selfie stations. When we visited, there was only a young gal at the register ringing up gift shop purchases and she was very quiet! There's no interaction from staff so looking at the pictures and a quick glance at the souvenirs only takes a few minutes. If you love donkeys, it's your kind of place!

Several curio cabinets with donkey and mule figurines.

The cars included a 1923 Ford coexisting with a Chevy El Camino, a Plymouth Road Runner, 1978 Trans Am, and every classic car imaginable. Just like a good museum, the cars included information about their year and make. A good number of the cars had the hoods popped open to display the engines. The vehicle owners were there to share information. There was even a stand displaying hundreds of Match Box and Hot Wheels cars for sale. The Super Run Classic Car Show featured a few food concessions plus a beer garden. They sold corn dogs, smoothies, hot dogs, burgers, sausages, and fries. Personally I have mixed feelings about the food concessions in downtown events. My understanding is that the events are entertainment that helps stimulate the downtown economy. On Water Street so much of the downtown economy is restaurants and bars. I'd do my part by supporting the Cafe in the El Dorado, the Coffee House, and the Gold Mine Tavern because they plan to be in the community for the long run. Besides, lately I'm not too crazy over the taste of carnival food. In my reporting of the Super Clasic Car Show, what made Super Run Classic Car Show shine was that it made Water Street shine. I never saw Water Street so happening on a weekend afternoon. For a day Water Street looked like US 66 when GTOs ruled the road. A Water Street that is usually empty on a Sunday morning was animated with people. These people were supporting local businesses. From my observation, business was up on Water Street. There was even a 15 minute wait to eat in the Cafe. It also seemed that the casinos and bars were busier. When I look back on the Super Run Car Show, I think of how it made Water Street shine on a weekend afternoon When I look back on this event, I look forward to more local events.

And depending on what you want, it's a decent substitute. There's a handful of casinos and hotels-not on par with the luxury ones in Sin City, but respectable, for the most part. If you're into golfing, you can do that just about year-round here, since it stays warm through the winter. You may want to avoid the hottest months of the year-golfing in August can be brutal. Mesquite has a small town feel to it-talk to the locals and you'll find yourself quickly amongst the gossip of who's who and who's doing what. I get the feeling that those who have lived here a long time would prefer that things stop growing-just like most small town lifers. But by the looks of things, I don't see it slowing down any time soon.

Because there are few good paying jobs in Mesquite, most of the new non retired residents move to Mesquite because homes are cheaper and commute daily to jobs in St. George and Las Vegas. Most of the amenities are located near the freeway and target tourist needs e.g., gas stations, fast food, and RV accommodations. The high school ranking is poor which inhibits dynamic professional organizations from locating here. I moved to Sun City three years ago KNOWING it had major short comings but chose it for its location and low cost homes and living. I have many individual interests and am very active, and consequently, do not need nice amenities to be happy. However, many of my neighbors constantly complain about the lack of amenities and about 20% have moved since I have lived here. Unless you are a golfer or have several individual interests that keep you busy and happy, I would not recommend retiring here. This time it was doing away with the original sportsbook, and relocating it against a nondescript wall deeper in the casino. Not a good look for us bettors. I was told that Station casinos has taken over this aspect of of our gambling vice. In so doing, I'm thinking Casablanca has given it the Ol' heave ho. The sportsbook has been transformed into a comicbook. Good ridden to the bank of TV's. Out you go ample seating. So long talley board giving the spreads. Usher in the new and unimproved thimble experience. A few roundtop tables, and I wonder what the line on the game is? In the place of the old sportsbook location, installed are yet more uninspiring slots. Yes slots are the bread and butter of a casino. But bread gets stale and butter will turn rancid before long. Before you know it, the Casablanca will lean toward its one time neighbor The Oasis. That remnant is a blight on the landscape of Mesquite. However that infection could spread west if ownership doesn't quit tinkering with what made this casino resort a success. The renovated rooms are nice, and getting rid of the buffet was probably the right decision. What's lacking is the once old school ambiance. Adding new this and new that may not have the desired effect. What may happen is that we'll decide to stay home and gamble on our phones. Or better yet, gamble on our phones while in a national park or sitting on a beach in Hawaii. With diminishing returns hovering, it may not be prudent to gamble on repeat business. Quick Tip: If you want a quiet place to hang, visit the business center next to the elevators. In all the years that I've been visiting, I've yet to see anyone (other than myself) in there. You could literally have a party and not have to worry about being disturbed. It's also five times bigger that the new sportsbook!

1 Star - Overpriced, Poorly Maintained, and Completely Misrepresented…read moreI booked a king bungalow at the Casablanca Resort expecting something at least reasonably nice for the price. What we got was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. The Room Was a Disaster The dishwasher wasn't even screwed into the cabinetry. Fixtures were hanging off the walls. Light bulbs were blown out. Everything was extremely dated and clearly neglected. The floors were so visibly dirty that we kept our shoes on the entire stay -- in our own room. For what they charge, this is completely unacceptable. Noise Was Unbearable -- And Never Disclosed Both Friday AND Saturday nights, the resort hosts loud pool parties. And I don't mean "a little noisy." The bass was literally shaking the fixtures and walls in our room. We couldn't even hear the TV. We had no idea this was going to happen when we booked. This should be prominently disclosed at the time of booking -- full stop. If I had known, I never would have stayed here over a weekend. On top of that, we were in a bungalow with two connecting rooms on both sides, and we could hear everything going on in both. Zero sound insulation. Staff Was Unhelpful and at Times Confrontational The front desk had no property maps available, so we had no idea where our room was. We dragged our luggage all over the resort trying to find it. Security directed us to the completely wrong area -- apparently even the staff doesn't know the layout of their own property. The check-in experience was made worse by a front desk agent who was noticeably crabby and negative. Not exactly a warm welcome. The worst interaction of the trip came the first night when I returned with my son (who is under 21) to a security guard who got aggressively in my face at the gate -- despite the fact that our room was literally ten feet away. Instead of any reasonable accommodation, he sent us completely around the entire property and back through the pool area. The attitude was completely unnecessary and frankly intimidating. Bottom Line This resort is overpriced for what it delivers. The room was poorly maintained, the noise situation was undisclosed and extreme, the staff was either unhelpful or outright rude, and the overall experience was stressful from check-in to check-out. I would not return and cannot recommend it to anyone -- especially families.
