I can't confirm that this one is run by volunteers, but it definitely has the small-town feel. We were greeted by a woman who was excited to give us the spiel about how the town was settled (Mormon pioneers that traveled south from Salt Lake City looking to plant cotton). She also proudly showed us the story board that she was creating herself. It changes out each quarter and tells the whole story of the town, the commerce and the culture. She also said that she's working to get it online so it can be enjoyed by people all over. The museum itself is small but stuffed with old history and artifacts of the past. It was really dark inside-I'm not sure if they didn't turn on the lights or if it's just that way, but it felt kind of eerie.

And depending on what you want, it's a decent substitute. There's a handful of casinos and hotels-not on par with the luxury ones in Sin City, but respectable, for the most part. If you're into golfing, you can do that just about year-round here, since it stays warm through the winter. You may want to avoid the hottest months of the year-golfing in August can be brutal. Mesquite has a small town feel to it-talk to the locals and you'll find yourself quickly amongst the gossip of who's who and who's doing what. I get the feeling that those who have lived here a long time would prefer that things stop growing-just like most small town lifers. But by the looks of things, I don't see it slowing down any time soon.

The owner allowed us to bring food and drinks since we were having a private party. He gave us great tips on different techniques, and made us feel welcome and appreciated. It was only a few days before our works were fired and ready for pick up. We were all proud of ourselves and agreed that we should do it again. After attending the Super Run Classic Car Show in downtown Henderson last weekend, I am a fan of…read morelocal events.The Super Run Classic Car Show transformed Water Street into a classic car museum filled with people. The cars included a 1923 Ford coexisting with a Chevy El Camino, a Plymouth Road Runner, 1978 Trans Am, and every classic car imaginable. Just like a good museum, the cars included information about their year and make. A good number of the cars had the hoods popped open to display the engines. The vehicle owners were there to share information. There was even a stand displaying hundreds of Match Box and Hot Wheels cars for sale. The Super Run Classic Car Show featured a few food concessions plus a beer garden. They sold corn dogs, smoothies, hot dogs, burgers, sausages, and fries. Personally I have mixed feelings about the food concessions in downtown events. My understanding is that the events are entertainment that helps stimulate the downtown economy. On Water Street so much of the downtown economy is restaurants and bars. I'd do my part by supporting the Cafe in the El Dorado, the Coffee House, and the Gold Mine Tavern because they plan to be in the community for the long run. Besides, lately I'm not too crazy over the taste of carnival food. In my reporting of the Super Clasic Car Show, what made Super Run Classic Car Show shine was that it made Water Street shine. I never saw Water Street so happening on a weekend afternoon. For a day Water Street looked like US 66 when GTOs ruled the road. A Water Street that is usually empty on a Sunday morning was animated with people. These people were supporting local businesses. From my observation, business was up on Water Street. There was even a 15 minute wait to eat in the Cafe. It also seemed that the casinos and bars were busier. When I look back on the Super Run Car Show, I think of how it made Water Street shine on a weekend afternoon When I look back on this event, I look forward to more local events.

It seems about perfect for the landscape of Mesquite, Nevada. RCCG has a lot of furniture, with an emphasis on the Southwestern motif: deep browns, taupes, turquoises, a lot of wood and leather. They have several "showrooms," which is great for those who love that style but can't quite figure out how it should go together. You'll find plenty of couches, love seats, arm chairs, recliners, dressers, credenzas, coffee tables, bar stools, dining tables, accent tables, nesting tables, ottomans, dressers, throw pillows, clocks, area rugs, and the rest. They also have a lot I would consider to be female-friendly accessories you'd find at almost any Michaels, JoAnn Fabrics, or AtHome: Warm-and-fuzzy signs with phrases like "Bless this Mess" and "I Love You Like Biscuits and Gravy"; repro paintings; cutesy signs with cutesy animals on them, coffee mugs, scarves, candles, jewelry (much of it handmade); and several signs, magnets, and other accessories that would be perfect for those wanting to share their passion for wine. While I'm not the target audience for RCCG, it's an excellent store that's perfect for those passionate about Southwestern style.
