Our really enormous olive trees have been butchered in the past, so we've let them overgrow. Realized it was time to bite the bullet and have them trimmed. Really, I was mostly after thinning, since the olives were just destroying the place. Received a quote of $1,400 from a different business. Called Donegan for estimate. Owner came out and gave an incredible estimate, but since it was during the holidays, the work couldn't be done until early January. Well, they came out yesterday, and got through one tree, and as they were working, I was seriously concerned that they might be butchering them, as they were cutting a ton off. Woke up this morning, and took a good look in the daylight, and I absolutely LOVE the result. Definitely thinned, and trimmed immensely, but they don't look butchered. They look groomed, and we can see the house! They're still very tall, and have a nice border shape. They returned today and worked their butts off in the downpour to do the other tree. My regular yard guy quoted me a price to trim my pomegranate tree. When I asked about adding 1 (one) large bird and f paradise--he added $200. My friend recommended Donegan's. They trimmed 5 birds, a pomegranate tree and the seed pods off all the palms in the front and back for the original price my yard guy quoted. They are honest + and got to business. Donegan gave us a great price to remove our 4 giant eucalyptus trees. I called for an estimate and they came out within a couple days to assess the job and quoted us a very reasonable price. They came back that weekend and cut down all 4 trees, ground the stumps and removed all the debris. They even cleaned the wood shavings out of my neighbors yard and driveway. My family has been using Donegan's Tree Service for years, and they excel at what they do. I am puzzled by other reviews, because Garth doesn't top off trees- ever. They are true arborists, and won't butcher your trees, because they know what they are doing-(I know, because my Dad was a horticulturist for the government for 30 years!) They trimmed 3 large trees expertly and took out an old juniper hedge in about an hour, chipped all the wood and totally cleaned up-(in the rain!) Friendly, fast and professional. While I am not the homeowner who hired Donegans Tree Service, the crew needed to access my neighbors trees from my backyard. I gave them access and then was SHOCKED to find the condition they had left my backyard in. They had damaged my hedges, plants, pulled guide wires and vines off the fence, broke 4 sprinkler valves and 2 sprinklers. My neighbors were devastated when they saw the damage done to my property and called Garth and Susan immediately. It took 4 weeks for the Donegans to finally return my calls and discuss this matter with me. In the mean time I had sent them pictures of the damage to my plants and sprinklers. Garth was angry and rude to me on the phone, claiming it was not his responsibility to address the damage done to my property. He then hung up on me. Not at all a professional. read more

We purchased a cord of firewood from Donegans Tree Service. Two gentlemen came out, identical twins Rodney and Ronald, in a loaded pickup. These guys were great. They unloaded and stacked the wood perfectly, all the while maintaining an entertaining and lively conversation with us. They taught us about the species of wood in our "hard wood mix", and gave recommendations on wood to use for smoking or barbecuing vs. fireplace. Kudos, Donegans, for your staff. I don't know what is going on with the people who posted negative reviews because we nothing but positive things to say about them. Donegan's was recommended to us by a family member who has had them come out every year to cut their trees and bring firewood. They came out as scheduled to our home to bring firewood and to cut down two large pine trees, one which was a danger because it was leaning towards our neighbors home. About 5 to 6 employees showed up and they all worked competently and clean up well after their work. We had no concerns with the safety of the job or the esthetics. While cutting down the trees the next door neighbor came and asked about their pine tree and the owner was very nice to accommodate them and trim their tree on the spot. We were so impressed with their work we scheduled them to come out the following week to trim our large trees. They again showed up and did stellar work. The neighbor across the street came and asked about their two mulberry trees as they admired the work they were doing on ours and again they accommodated them on the spot and went and trimmed their trees. They are professional and know what they are doing. We highly recommend them without hesitation and will be having them back again. read more

They gave me a great price, arrived on time, and did good work (including cleanup). It did take me a while to schedule the visit, but for the price it was worth the wait. These guys just cut some trees down in my back yard and left my yard and pool a mess. OK, sawdust in the yard I understand. Saw dust, palm debris, rocks and worst of all, chain saw oil floating in my pool? I asked the foreman about the oil in the pool. He said he would talk to his boss. He sent his two helpers back to talk to me( he wouldn't talk to me after that ), and they told me if I didn't pay they would dump all the tree crap in my front yard! What jerks! I never said anything about not paying. I wanted to know why there was oil in my pool and hot tub along with a good deal of sawdust and trash. I called the owner of the company. The first thing out of the jerks mouth was the threat to dump everything in my front yard. What the heck? Never do service with these guys. Especially if you have a pool! read more

STAY AWAY! Hired this company after Garth (owner) came out to the property and gave me an estimate for the work we requested. I was very clear about the work that was going to be done and Garth assured me it would be done accordingly. IT WAS NOT! After speaking with his foreman, I was able to speak with Garth on the phone about the horrible job his workers had done. His reply was "If you are not satisfied, then don't pay for the work". I was not intending to get out of paying him, just wanted the job done the way we had agreed to. How do you pay or not pay for a poor job? We are still left with the horrible results which money cannot correct. Sad to see that I was dealing with the owner of the company and he was not willing to correct / finish the job he was hired for. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. His crew also were very unprofessional and lazy. Even his foreman told me that it was a "less than mediocre job". But Garth wouldn't come to the property to see the poor job his crew had done, nor did he instruct them to finish the job according to our agreement. I would have given 1/8th of a star rating if possible. I say use any other tree service in the Inland Empire, but stay away from Donegans! read more

These guys were recommended by a friend and I'm glad I listened. Call them for a free estimate. Everything can be done by phone and fax and email probably if you don't have a fax machine. Just give them the details of what you want done over the phone and Garth will come by to leave you an estimate in your mail box. If they don't pick up, leave them a message and they usually call back within the hour. Their service is fast and COMPETITIVE! Awful tree service. They topped 3 of our poplars saying it would help them and the trees have all slowly died. Then they "shaped" our pepper and cut it back so bad it has not recovered for years now. They obviously don't know what they are doing. read more

This was the second time we have used Donegan's and were very pleased with the service. The crew chief came out and gave us our estimate as well as and estimate for our neighbor who had also used them before. The crew and crew chief, were a little late but called to inform us they would be delayed. On arrival, we reviewed what was to be done. All the work was done very well and they cleaned up really well. Perhaps our experience was better than some because we did stay and "supervise" the work. When we made an observation or request for additional adjustments, the chief responded amiably and took care of the issue. I can see where if we weren't there, we may have been disappointed, but as it turned out, we would recommend them with the caveat that you should hang out and "supervise". read more

We got an estimate from Mr. Donegan himself for $1800 to take off some branches from two huge, gorgeous Silver Maple trees. Mr. Donegan came to the house, and we walked around the two trees and talked about each branch that would be removed, and where the cut would be. I specifically said, "Nothing off the top", and Mr. Donegan agreed. I'm sad to say that they topped these two wonderful trees down to a trunk and a few bare branches, completely butchering the natural growth and tree canopy. Every branch was cut. Worse, I did not get every word of the estimate in writing, and Mr. Donegan now denies ever saying anything we talked about in the estimate. Although my trees are ruined forever, I told Mr. Donegan I don't want to sue him, or get my money back, just for him to admit that they did not do what was talked about at the estimate, and for him to be sorry. He is not sorry, in fact, he is incredibly pompous. It's a good thing he is the owner, as he would surely be fired otherwise for such horrible customer service. On another note, the crew was very professional and cleaned up well. Mr. Donegan is the sour note in this company. read more
