We live outside of Minot and like to take mini cruises to Fergie's ex-husband's home town and today we came out to eat. I LUUUVVV Mexican food and after washing the vehicle and not wanting to go all the way around the construction on broadway, we went north to Don Tapatío. We got seated and served right away. The vibe was relaxing and quiet but we did get there between lunch and dinner time. We ordered appetizers of Sangria and a Berries margarita (recommend). The drinks were very good and not overly sweet or syrupy and because that was the first meal of the day, I got a nice little buzz. I will die for tacos and ordered the street birria tacos that came with green salsa (very good), rice, and beans. I can't remember what my husband ordered cause I wasn't paying attention but when I tried half of it, it was very delicious. The birria meat was sooooo good!!! Very tender with marvelous flavor. The soft shell taco my counterpart ordered had very melt in your mouth shredded chicken. And then I suddenly remembered I had to feed Willard who was waiting in the car. We greatly enjoyed the rapport between staff - as they were jovial & playful, while still being efficient and professional. The food and drinks were good and the server was happy to offer suggestions. The price initially seemed a tad high, until iyhe plates came out and we realized that the portions weren't skimpy. Came for a drink and apps and left feeling like this was a good add to Minot. We had a margarita and everyone had a different flavor. No bad things said about the margs. The drink service was extremely quick. Foodwise - we tried the cheese dip and guac. The guac was amazing -- really great flavor with lots of add ins. The cheese dip was good but a little bit challenging to eat since there was a harder cheese under the soft melted cheese. Taste was also fantastic. If I could put negative stars I would, I was on the way to meet my family to eat dinner after a long 14 hour day. When I got there my family was headed out due to the atrocious service they received. I came here with my friends and we were excited to try this New Mexican restaurant in town! We were not let down either. Seating wasn't bad we got a booth right away, but mind you we went on a Monday afternoon. Our waitress was so nice, me and my friend had ordered a mango margaritas with chamoy and Tajín and can I just say it was the best margarita I have had here! And I loveee my margaritas. My other friend had ordered a piña colada and it was so tasty as well, the serving portion was just right to hit the spot! We then ordered street tacos for I had gotten carnitas and my friend got shrimp and they were so delicious! I love my carnitas and I haven't tasted a good taco like this in a while. Reminded me of back home. Their side serving of beans and rice was a good ratio as well ! My other friend had ordered some chicken flautas and they were tasty as well, we also had ordered some guacamole on the side (which isn't pictured) but oh my, that was the best guacamole I have had here! Over all our food was amazing, service was amazing, and love the decor of the restaurant. They have music playing very low which isn't distracting and just over all a good vibe, made me and my friends feel like we weren't in Minot for a bit. I thought the food was fine but felt that everything was very over priced for what you get. The service was really good! I had the fajitas and they were ok. I thought the vegetables could have been grilled longer, they were still very raw and they were cut into very large pieces. The steak pieces were very small. If we were to go back I would try something different. Honestly, we will probably not be back unless our friends want to go here. I'd rather eat at Mi Mexico. Having been here before, we had expectations of what to expect. Although the food was good, it wasn't as good as it has been in the past. But what really was offsetting was being told that when we requested a second basket of chips since we had ordered queso as well for our chips and salsa that there would be a charge of $5. Ok, I would understand this if we hadn't ordered the $8 queso with our chips and salsa as well as 2 adult meals, but I have never been to a Mexican restaurant that charged extra for a second bowl of chips!!! I could understand this if all we were having were just chips and a drink but we spent over $50 on our meal. Then to make things even worse, the chips that we ordered were put on the other couple's ticket instead of on ours. Typically, they have 2 beers while we sit and chat but only had 1 because this was such an odd way to have been treated. We may rethink meeting here for dinner out with friends again. Our check number was 46 on 7/8/2025 and my husband's name shows on the bottom of the receipt that was printed for us should anyone from the restaurant wish to contact us. To start this of, I'm not your average review for North Dakota. I'm a transplanted Texan who has 6 years of experience in the service industry in the most authentic places down south. In the years I've been up here I have so desperately missed the wonderful food down south. So please take what I'm about to say seriously: THIS PLACE IS AUTHENTIC & DELICIOUS. From the moment I walked in I was shocked at how wonderful this experience was. I was immediately greeted by the host, and led to the bar. The festive Latin music was playing at what I can only describe as the perfect volume. I can hear every word of the music and the person I'm next to. Festive but not distracting. I was immediately offered guacamole, and boy was I happy with the fresh delight that was placed in front of me. To make it better, was something that I haven't seen since I've been up here: THE PERFECT CHIP. Hot, crips, with the perfect amount of salt. I sampled the queso and salsa as well: thank the lord someone up here knows how to make both of these. For my meal I had the birria flautas: and once again - I was in love. Beautifully plated in front of me was the Mexican heaven I'd been craving. The meat inside the perfectly crisp shell gave off amazing aromatic smells. The insanely fresh Mexican salad for the middle of the North Dakota winter was full of flavor and not over done with dressing. The refried beans were smooth, and had that right amount of seasoning and cheese. The last thing on the plate was the rice. It's refreshing to see a place that doesn't kill you with a boat and a half of unnecessary food you don't really want: even tho it's the perfect rice. For dessert- I jokingly asked for something not on the menu: Sopaipillas. Magically - they appeared in front of me. A beautiful cinnamon tortilla with all the goodies. Not previously mentioned were the cocktails: I had both the Paloma and house margaritas. They SMASHED. The bartenders here got the right kind of heavy hand. Other observations: The girl next to me got the Chimichanga and it's the size of a small child. She's gonna eat the other half for lunch tomorrow because it's to damn big. The place is immaculately clean. The staff act like they wanna be here. I could say more - but I'll need to save that for my next visit. 99 out of 10 recommend. read more

this did not disappoint. the food is authentic Mexican food with chefs from Jalisco, Mexico. chips and salsa are free! salsa comes in a small carafe with a container that will feed 3 people. my husband ordered the carnitas, no sauce. They were amazing. served with rice, beans, pickled onion and jalepenos, and tortillas. I had the chicken enchiladas suizzas with green sauce it also includes rice and beans and salad with crema. the fresh quacamole.. if you like it, get it. it's delicious and a lot. the margaritas are very good and big. I had the house, and my husband likes strawberry frozen. Everything was on point. our server, Allie, was awesome. They do have an elevator to get to the 2nd floor. The stairs were too much for my bad knee to handle. The bar area on the 2nd floor has regular tables and the high bar style, or you can eat at the bar. 7/7/2024 got in around 1:50 ish and left around 3:00. Matt was our server on the rooftop and was absolutely killing it. Couldn't have asked for better service anywhere else I can think of. Unless it is an expensive place somewhere else. Tipped very well. Salsa was amazing, Barrie's were great dip and salsa was Texas approved from my GF. Was excited to try this place. Waited for a table and then when we were seated we were given menus and then didn't see anyone else for another 15 minutes. Was asked if we would like to order drinks and so we did. After the kids got their drinks we had to ask the server to order Queso and Guac. Our drinks then came to the table from the bar as did our queso and guac. After another 20 minutes a different server came to ask if we wanted to order food. We ordered and waited only a few minutes before our entrees came out. The food was good and hot however the margaritas were extremely sweet. No one came to ask us if our food was fine until we were pretty much finished and they asked if we wanted to order dessert. We ordered the churros. As we were waiting for dessert we stacked our finished plates so that the server could easily take them from our table. Dessert came and the stacked plates were still on our table. There were about 4 different serving staff that walked by our 4 top table and no one took the plates. So on the table sat two stacked piles of plates as well as our tray of churros. It wasn't until we moved a stacked pile of plates to the ledge of the building (we were outside on the rooftop) that finally a server came to remove them. Our server came over to get us to pay for our check and we had to ask for boxes. We paid and left and we all confirmed that we wouldn't be going back. I would highly recommend just going to Mi Mexico for any Mexican food in Minot. read more
