Little off the beaten path left of Walmart, figured I'd give it a try for lunch and I wasn't disappointed. Typical Mexican cuisine fare, with many options for everyone. The place itself is in a small strip mall, but bright and inviting with a seated bar (which I used). Service was very on point and quick - no complaints at all. Went with the lunch fajitas (big surprise if you know my profile and reviews lol) and honestly they were great. Plenty of food and great flavor. Had a beer, seriously ice cold. Having grown up in Texas, I tend to be very critical of Mexican restaurants in the north. But time & time again, we always come back to Don Patron as our local favorite. They have great food, great service, and VERY cool ambience. For the dining area, they had the brilliant concept of making their interior look like a Mayan temple, and that was what grabbed our attention when we first visited. They have realistic 3D "stone" walls with authentic "carvings", which are impressive. But what is amazing are the Amazon jungle murals. Some people with true talent created this, & for that alone I'd recommend checking it out. But if the food wasn't great, too, we wouldn't have bothered to return. Muy Bueno! Don Patron is a great option for tasty Mexican food and fun nightly specials. We stopped in for taco Tuesday when (basic) tacos were $1.50 apiece and jumbo (18oz.) margs were only $4.99. Si por favor. The food: maybe it's me, but I have a hard time distinguishing the differences between the 100s of items you typically find on the menu at these places so I took the easy way out and just got the $1.50 tacos! I opted for chicken and got 1 hard shell and 1 soft. These are very basic (it's just the meat plus lettuce and cheese) so I added beans and sour cream on the side ($2.75 each but worth it for how cheap the tacos themselves were). Anyway, everything came out much more generously sized than I was expecting. I got an entire small bowl of sour cream, a huge plate of beans, and the tacos were more substantial than I was expecting (I ended up with leftovers). My husband ordered one of the burritos and it was also huge. The drinks: I rarely have complaints when it comes to margs and this was no exception. Their list of cocktails also had some interesting concoctions that I'd like to try next time. The service: fast and friendly. There was a small mixup but they corrected it right away. The vibe: your typical casual Mexican spot with tables, booths, and a bar. About half full on a Tuesday night. Festively decorated for the holidays. Bathrooms randomly had some of the most beautiful hand-painted murals. The happy hour: I'm sorry to say I don't recall if they have one or what it is! I love Mexican food and enjoy trying new places. Like any dining experience, the food, aesthetics, and the service all contribute to the overall enjoyment of a meal. The best thing this little restaurant has going for it is the aesthetics, with a unique ancient Aztec ruins and jungle theme instead of the usual bright yellow decor other Mexican restaurants seem to follow. Not what you'd expect to find in a strip of shops next to a Walmart. My daughter and I found the food to be very average, though fresh. Both of our plates had the same presentation: a pile of shredded iceberg lettuce with a large glop of sour cream. I ordered the Burrito Superior with chicken and my daughter had Nachos Supreme. Our visit hit a few snags, the first being the service. It was a bit slow and the server we had was pleasant, but seemed to be under a lot of pressure. He came off as a bit rushed, so a little edgy and in a hurry. I didn't want refried beans and requested black beans instead, but black beans were not available. First Mexican restaurant I've ever been to where black beans were not available. When the food came, there seemed to be some confusion. Instead of our original server, a woman with two plates that appeared to be ours approached our table, then stopped to look around, looked back at our table, then walked away. Five minutes later, our hurried server came back with the same two plates, set them on our table, then went about his business. Our food wasn't even hot. Both of us were hungry, so we just started to eat. I was very disappointed in the size of my burrito. It was about the size of a certain fast food chain's offering. When I went to cut it there was nothing but shell fering, very thin and both ends of the burrito were empty--not what you'd expect from an item labeled as 'Superior' for $7.99. The shredded chicken inside was fresh, so no complaints there, but everything was very bland. Honestly, we could have been across the street at the chain restaurant. My daughter's nachos were pretty much the same. Just a very generic offering. Maybe we just ordered the wrong menu items and came in an "off" evening. Non-attentive waiter; appears they have a hot girl that runs the checkout Register and all the men waiters basically chat and play footsie with her the entire night. You can sit and watch nearly the entire staff on there cell phones. This is a very young Irresponsible staff running this business. To the food, fair, I can definitely say the quality has gone downhill since Covid. What my major complaint is; the portion size. I paid 5 dollars for guacamole and it was literally 1 tablespoon, stuck in the center of a side dish, absolutely ridiculous. On our one night stop in OH, we picked this newly opened Mexican restaurant. They were celebrating their one year anniversary of being open. My husband had ordered the Cancun Burrito, and I got the fajita burrito. My oldest son (7) ordered a cheeseburger and fries. We also receive the complimentary endless chips and salsa. There was a spicy and a mild salsa, both good. Now, these burritos were not of small portion: they were HUGE! My husband and I could have easily shared one and been stuffed. (Check the photos for evidence.) The Cancun: I don't have much to say on this because I was too focused on the massive meal on the plate directly in front of me. It did have a light, creamy sauce on top. My husband got the chicken. It was seasoned well! The burrito was full of mushrooms, beans and rice. He LOVES mushrooms, so this was a real winner. The Fajita burrito: HELLO FOOD THE SIZE OF MY HEAD! So, the pregnancy cravings for steak were real. So I picked the fajita burrito. The steak was cooked perfectly, and wasn't chewy with fat at all. Don't stop based on the appearance. This restaurant is located right by Walmart and looking from the outside it looks pretty dark and not very welcoming. But open the doors and you will enter into the Mexican restaurant : music, dynamic waitress and a room full of colors. Their menu has a decent amount of choices, vegetarian included. Their prices are totally in range as well. The food is not too greasy and the flavors were pretty good. I would not put 5 stars for the service that I found pretty slow. Our waiter forgot about us several times and the wrong order has been also brought to us. But other than that, it is a decent Mexican restaurant for lunch and diner. We tried this place thinking it was brand new and had good reviews. It turns out it's been around for three years. We walked in and the place was hopping. We were immediately seated but the seat was a bit too drafty for me. They quickly moved us with no problem. I got to sit where there was a fair view of the kitchen and it was nice and clean. The chips and salsa came out. You know if the salsa is bad, the rest of the meal will suck. Theirs was delicious. We ordered our meals and they came quickly but not before I finished a carafe of salsa & basket of chips! I didn't realize the combo didn't have rice and beans, but between the chips and plate, I was stuff. The tamale was excellent. I will tell you that I'm a tamale snob. It's hard to find good ones in Ohio. The Chile relleno was absolutely perfect. I've been places where you get a strip of Chile battered and layer on cheese. This was the whole Chile with the stem and all. It was great. Of course, I had to try my husband's arroz con pollo which was also delicious. They had flour tortilla chips on it which were wonderful. Before we left, my husband mentioned yelp and our wonderful server Mariana brought out a small treat. She was very helpful and on top of our drinks, salsa & anything else we needed.
