Thankfully, no live music on this particular Friday and it was a quiet time. I sat off to the side, served my beer (their wonderful East Hamilton Lager) and spent some time working out where I was going to park the RV tonight. Clifford has a big open space, lots of tables inside and out, several beers on tap and even a couple pinball machines. Well worth a visit. [Review 1469 of 2024 - 146 in Ontario - 22492 overall]

(Apparently, the beer/wine industry has been hit hard during the shutdowns, so it's difficult to keep afloat.) In an unassuming industrial area - aren't they all? - the interior is actually quite BIG and they even had pinball machines off to one side. It wasn't crowded at all on a Saturday afternoon, so there's quite a bit of room to keep your distance while enjoying some drinks indoors! (There's no outdoor seating - at least not when I visited.) I had a flight of lagers, IPA, & a Porter and although I usually drift towards the IPAs, their lagers were great too - quite refreshing and light! Bartender was friendly. Deducting a star because they didn't have 2 brews on tap for some reason that I forgot. So I wasn't able to try those, no biggie, picked them up in can form!

Our first stop took us to Tiffany Falls, one of many in the Hamilton area. The water flow at this time of the year is fairly low but still beautiful. Our next stop was the nearby Sherman Falls, one of my favourites. This one has more flow and is more shaded. I could relax here all day. After consulting our online apps, we stopped for lunch at The Fool & Flagon pub. Our light meal consisted of a Scotch Egg, French Onion Soup, Fish & Chips, and Shepherd's Pie. The food and service were all pretty good, with generous portions. The Scotch Egg was perfectly cooked, with a nice runny yolk and crispy crust. The French Onion Soup was topped with lots of gooey cheese. The Fish 'n' Chips was ordered with two pieces of fish for sharing. It was also quite nicely done and came with a generous amount of tartar sauce, which is rare. The Shepherd's Pie was very good, perhaps one of the best I've had from a restaurant! With could food and good service, I would definitely come back to this place!

The food was fresh and I said at the time that it was some of the best pub food I had ever had. We turned into regulars and came back very often; usually a few times a week. In the past few months something has changed. The portions seem smaller and the food just isn't hot or well prepared. This has been our experience on our last three visits. The last time we were there we had food taken off our bill because it was really that unsatisfactory. Tonight I had the Sante Fe chicken dinner which is freshly battered and fried chicken breast tenders. The chicken was barely luke warm when it got to me and the portion was probably half of what it had been. The chicken was not crispy on the outside (like it had been in the past when we first started coming there) and there was very little buffalo sauce. The strange thing about this is the last time we went in the exact situation happened and the chicken had to be sent back. The last time they made fresh chicken, this time it tasted like it had been microwaved and sauce splashed on it. We are actually quite upset that we have had so many negative experiences here in the last few months because this really was our favourite local restaurant. We likely will not be back. Something has changed here and in my opinion if it isn't rectified they will lose other regular customers.

Hubby and I were looking for something fun to do on a Saturday night and we settled on Collective Arts Brewing in Hamilton. It was our first time there and it's definitely a place worth revisiting. The front part is the tap room for beer sales, and if you drive to the back, you'll get to the outdoor beer garden (with lots of shade) and access to another huge indoor beer hall. We were famished and ordered from Mel's Deli - the sandwiches were hearty and flavourful. We ordered the saucy and spicy meatball hoagie and the not so hot cheesesteak, each were $19 and came with pickles and some kettle cooked chips. The sandwiches were hot, bun was super fresh and were loaded with various toppings and cheese. To pair with the sandwiches, you can order beer on top, canned beer or alcoholic slushies. I opted for a beer flight, 4 samplers of any of the beers they had on top. There are so many options that anyone can for sure find something that they'll like. And to top off the fun outing, line dancing started at 8pm that Saturday and everyone jumped in! A side note for those with kids and dogs, they are all welcome on site! I want to say that every other table had kids. If you're looking for a fun night out, whether it's date night, girls night out or even a family outing, you have to come here!

I do want to mention my husband and I did visit on a sunny summer evening & it was busy. Upon arrival, we did wait to be welcomed and when we were, the hostess was very friendly and informed us only interior tables were available however when a patio space was available we would be moved to our requested spot. We sat & were served by a very attentive, friendly waitress. She was awesome - answering menu questions & promptly serving our drink order. It took about 20-25 min for a patio table to come free and again our friendly hostess moved us outside. With this said - this wasn't an easy feat as there is a main entrance and a patio entrance. The hostess was bouncing back and forward to assure no one just walked in & sat at a patio table when people were waiting inside. This young lady did amazing! However, I can not say anything nice about the service we received once moved outside. Since we did move to a new table - we then had a new waitress. She made me regret moving. Her lack of attention and demeanour was such contrast to what we just had experienced from the previous 2 lovely, attentive staff. She grabbed my empty glass from the table, never asking if I'd like a refill. As she was walking away, I spoke up asking for another beer. She balked at me as if I was bugging her. I blew it off, thinking it was an isolated incident. When the meal arrived, she didn't place the food down but dropped it to the point the food on the plate moved & some salad spilling from the plate. The action startled us both however she was gone before we could say anything. There was nothing said from the waitress - no questions 'can I get you anything', 'enjoy' - nothing. Was she having a bad night? I don't think so as we witnessed being very charming to others. The behaviour continued as we finished up plates, she swiftly move in, grab the plate & leave abruptly without asking if we need anything. Our drink glasses remained empty and we had to flag down another waitress to get refills. The food was just ok. We shared the much raved about pepperoni pizza & arugula salad. For $16 - there was a container of arugula & you had to hunt for the other ingredients that were next to non-existent. It wasn't overly dressed, which was a plus however it was very underwhelming. The pizza when it was dropped onto the table fell in such a way that the hot toppings all moved to one side. Once we shifted them back in place, found the pizza to be undercooked & unimpressive. Did we just have a bit of bad luck? Maybe however we won't be going back given the experience.
