Nice hummus and lentil soup, probably the best I had in any breweries with food offers. Hummus: 5/5, lentil soup 5/5, platter 3.5/5. We have two beer flights, one is 3 IPA and another with sour, saison, barrel aged Kentucky, and Baltic porter. Sour is the best we tried. The IPA is good, just not my type.

Great spot! Love the Wednesday specials - $5 pints, $5 flights of 3 and $5 fries. The atmosphere is excellent and there is a cute outdoor area as well.

The setting for The Grist is incredibly adorable. It gives industrial chic in the best kind of way,…read moreso walking in is comforting and cozy but still sophisticated. The food was more of a 3.5, but I think it was truthfully just what I ordered. For me, the roll was just too greasy to begin and then when they add the Italian dressing it ended up being difficult for me to eat. That being said, it's a given that it would be a heavier dish, but I didn't expect it to be quite so heavy. I stole some fries from my dining partner, and they were yummy. And if you couldn't tell, the pretzel was great (I took a bite before I took a picture. Whoops.) I do believe if I ordered something different (and the menu is quite extensive) I would likely have a better experience with the food, so I'd definitely come back. There were a few times it was difficult to get the attention of our waitress, but it was very busy on the day we were there. All in all not a bad experience, but not a stand out either.

My wife and I have been to a LOT of breweries, so it honestly takes something special to wow us…read morenow... and Grist absolutely did. We both grabbed flights, and while everything was solid, there were four beers that totally stood out: * Horchata Wit - creamy, spiced, super smooth * London Fog - light, unique, full of flavour * Cantarito Sour Ale - bright, citrusy, refreshing * Smoke'd Scottish Ale - the most unique beer we've tried in a long time It's rare for a brewery to hit this many home runs in one visit. For our appetizer, we got the Baked Brie-zza, and wow... dangerous. The dough (pretty sure it's house-made) is incredible, and the Brie adds so much creaminess while the fig compote and hot honey round it all out. Just so flavourful and sooo tasty. For mains: * I ordered the Baked Chicken Parm Ziti -- nice and cheesy, chicken cooked well. Noodles were slightly overcooked but I still enjoyed it. * My wife had the Smoked Tuna Tacos, loved them, and powered through the serious spice level Our friends enjoyed their meals and drinks too. And we're 100% coming back. The menu was super appealing and the pizza looked unbelievable -- easily something we need to try next time along with a few other dishes we had our eyes on. Overall? A fantastic experience. Great food, great beer, and easily some of the most memorable flavours we've had in a long time. Interior is decorated nice too, really cool and clean vibes! Such a cool vibe! Highly recommend stopping here if you're in the area especially for beer and wine…read moretaste testing. The Black Lager, Nut Brown Ale, Tropical Situation, Altar Ego, and Extra Special Bitter were what we tried and they were excellent! Food is superb here too. We started with the Whipped Feta which we tend to get a lot when it's available at different dispensaries and this one was easily one of the best we had. My Buffalo Chicken Burger was so delicious, crispy, and the Gorgonzola cheese added a lot to it as well. My wife ordered the Tofu Tacos which she enjoyed and liked even more when she added pickles that I didn't want from my burger. Wasn't as messy as she thought it was gonna be too! Our fries were nice and crispy and very well seasoned as well. Staff was excellent and gave great recommendations and we had great conversation with him. I know the menu has changed a bit since we went, so we're dying to try the new menu and new beers! Again, highly recommend stopping here!

Silversmith was such a good choice for a brewery to visit in the Niagara wine region. I'd been…read morewanting to try poutine for quite a while, and though it was available when I lived near Detroit, I never trusted that I was close enough to Quebec for it to be good. I decided maybe Virgil was close enough to try it, and oh my goodness - I understood at once why poutine is so popular. If you also hail from a poutine-less area of the world, fear not - done well, it's a great dish. The beer was also excellent. I can see why The Black Lager is Canada's most award-winning Schwarzbier. There are some really good schwarzebiers in my city, and Silversmith's is right up there with them. I also have a Nut Brown Ale, and a small size of the Motueka, both of which I would get again. They know what they are doing with their food and drink. And the atmosphere is really good as well. The old-church-turned-brewery is beautiful. I'll let the pictures in other reviews do it justice. The service was good. It was relatively busy the night I was there, but the service was still quick enough and even a bit conversational - I recall one of the bartenders worked at Silversmith in the warmer months, and travels southeast Asia in the colder months, which is pretty cool. I would likely be a regular if I lived in the area.
