My boyfriend knew he wanted to come here when we were in the area this week for vacation. We decided to stop in today (Labor Day) and we are so glad we did! The brewery is in an old church. They left so much of the character from the church and it looked great!! It was all done so well! Arched windows and doors, church pews against one wall for seating at the smaller tables. With some extra time in the day, Emmy wife and I took a drive through Niagara on the Lake. A small suburb, but a beautiful area. While driving through all the vineyards and countryside, we came across an old church now converted to a brewery. This place hd so much character, so much history, we loved it from the moment we walked in, and were quickly greeted by friendly staff welcoming us into the brewery. They had a good variety of beer styles to choose from, unfortunately time was limited, so we could only stay for 1. I got their "20 Hazy Years iPad, oddly named since they're just now celebrating 13 years in business...but still delicious. I'd absolutely return to this spot given the chance. Silversmith was such a good choice for a brewery to visit in the Niagara wine region. I'd been wanting to try poutine for quite a while, and though it was available when I lived near Detroit, I never trusted that I was close enough to Quebec for it to be good. I decided maybe Virgil was close enough to try it, and oh my goodness - I understood at once why poutine is so popular. If you also hail from a poutine-less area of the world, fear not - done well, it's a great dish. The beer was also excellent. I can see why The Black Lager is Canada's most award-winning Schwarzbier. There are some really good schwarzebiers in my city, and Silversmith's is right up there with them. I also have a Nut Brown Ale, and a small size of the Motueka, both of which I would get again. They know what they are doing with their food and drink. And the atmosphere is really good as well. The old-church-turned-brewery is beautiful. I'll let the pictures in other reviews do it justice. The service was good. It was relatively busy the night I was there, but the service was still quick enough and even a bit conversational - I recall one of the bartenders worked at Silversmith in the warmer months, and travels southeast Asia in the colder months, which is pretty cool. We've been here a few times before. Never been disappointed. This time we ordered the 20 haze and the nut brown. Also ordered the whipped feta (so good) and the smash burger. Plenty of food for decently big eaters. The burger came with a ton of fries. The feta had hot honey and sliced scallions on top. We used the fries for the extra. You'll still have feta after you eat all your bread, so load it up! The beer here is really good and it's housed in an old church that used to be an antiques place. Such a cool vibe! Highly recommend stopping here if you're in the area especially for beer and wine taste testing. The Black Lager, Nut Brown Ale, Tropical Situation, Altar Ego, and Extra Special Bitter were what we tried and they were excellent! Food is superb here too. We started with the Whipped Feta which we tend to get a lot when it's available at different dispensaries and this one was easily one of the best we had. My Buffalo Chicken Burger was so delicious, crispy, and the Gorgonzola cheese added a lot to it as well. My wife ordered the Tofu Tacos which she enjoyed and liked even more when she added pickles that I didn't want from my burger. Wasn't as messy as she thought it was gonna be too! Our fries were nice and crispy and very well seasoned as well. Staff was excellent and gave great recommendations and we had great conversation with him. We were warmly greeted as we walked in the door and the service stayed stellar for our entire visit. This is an old church and it's just really cool inside, so great atmosphere and great beer! I did the Lager flight which is their Amber, Helles, and black lagers. All three were delicious, but my favorite was the helles, then the black and then the amber. read more

First stop during our one-night stay in Niagara-on-the-Lake. We were looking for a family-friendly restaurant in-between our hotel in NOTL and St. Catherine's where we were planning to drop by Happy Rolph's Animal Farm. Their patio space fit the bill and we also lucked out with good weather. We ordered a bunch of items to share. Honestly, the menu was a bit tricky for small children and there wasn't really anything suitable for my 2.5 year old. We ordered the kid's chicken sandwich but it was too difficult (and large) to eat. Probably should have asked if they could do chicken tenders. The Cajun fries were also a bit spicy and we should have just order regular fries. The salads were probably the highlight. We got the Beet & Goat as well as the Garden Greens. Good portions, good acidity and refreshing. The seasonal flatbread was a little overcooked for my liking, but was good flavor-wise. The pretzel was well salted but the beer cheese dip was a bit bland. My Crispy Chicken Club main was good, albeit a bit messy. Overall decent food and good service. I would come back. The beer is excellent and I would probably upgrade the review if I didn't come with my kids. read more

This brew stop is in an old church with the interior largely intact complete with wood finishings and stained glass. Ample seating available with both bench tables and the bar. The beers are well done, clean and cover most classic styles. The black lager especially crisp and toasty on a winter afternoon. Silversmith Brewing Company is a craft brewery that opened in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada in July 2012. It was founded by friends Chris Pontsieon and Matt Swan. While on a rock climbing trip just outside of Las Vegas in 2005, the two walked into a Wholefoods to purchase some groceries and they discovered a huge selection of craft beer. They loaded up their cart with various Stouts, IPAs, Bitters, Porters, and Pilsners and soon they were obsessed with all things related to craft beer. By 2011 the friends were living in Niagara-on-the-Lake (known for its huge selection of wineries), but they realized that there wasn't a single brewery in town. They soon decided to open their own brewery and they found a home for it at the old St. John's Anglican Church (built in 1894) in the Virgil section of town. Silversmith Brewing opened their doors to the public on Canada Day in 2012. The current head brewer is Matthew McKeen. My wife and I visited Silversmith Brewing in April 2016. We were on a sightseeing trip to Niagara Falls for four days. Several people had told us to head north and check out Niagara-on-the-Lake for its huge winery scene, but we also heard that breweries were starting to pop up as well. We dedicated a day for visiting wineries and breweries and Silversmith Brewing was our first stop of the day. We really liked how the brewery was housed inside an old church. It still very much resembles a church from the outside, but then you walk inside and it's a really chill brewery taproom. They still retained a lot of the Anglican Church charm, including stained glass windows. We decided to split a beer flight of five samples including: "Breakfast Wheat" (Hefeweizen), "The Black Lager" (Schwarzbier), "Golden Ale", "Dam Buster" (ESB), and "Paulie Walnut" (English Brown Ale). The Golden Ale was our favorite and we purchased a bomber of it to take back home with us. First and foremost, WE LOVE PERRY!!! My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this really cool brewery on the way to Niagara Falls and we were welcomed in the warmest, most genuine manner by one of the beertenders named Perry. He was so sweet, easy to talk to, and also gave us a lot of advice on great places to go around the area, even providing us with a mini map with his own written details for us. As outsiders (...especially American outsiders), it was really appreciated by us that he was so incredibly kind and helpful. Thanks again Perry! Besides that, this place is just so cool because it's located in this old little church, so the interior is pretty interesting and sorta rustic. The beer we had here was really good too and we even got to try some samples of stuff. If you're anywhere near Niagara, this brewery is definitely a must to check out. We came here on a recommendation of a friend. 4 of us came to this bar/restaurant/brewery that seemed to have taken over the structure of a church. Very clean and good combination of old and modern decor. Only 2 people were planning to drink so they shared a flight of beers (4 drinks for 10$), can add on certain extras for 2.50$. The flights were varied and had different flavors which was nice to try. The 4 of us also shared a plate of bulgogi nachos. Chips were deliciously toasted, had a good sweet and spicy mix that is reminiscent of bulgogi and kimchi. Guacamole on the top is a nice add. They do use ground beef and not actual bulgogi cuts of meat but the flavor is definitely there - 5/5. Price: For a bar, it's probably reasonable but I still find it's decently pricey for food there. This was a stop for us on our Cider Brewery Tour and I'm glad we did. The place is unique, being an old church; it still maintained the general structure but throw in a bar and and a small kitchen where the alter used to be and you get a pretty cool brewery and restaurant. Service was good, the bar tender/waiter was attentive and made sure to come by and talk about the establishment, what they did there and what drink they would be serving that day. It was clean and fairly comfortable with a casual bar vibe. Small but cozy. We were given a full pint of the cider on tap (East Street Cider) and ordered some snacks to balance it out. Since we ate only a couple hours earlier, we ordered pretzels and chicken wings to share. The pretzels came out fresh from the oven and several of us nearly burned our fingers because we were so impatient. The smell of the fresh pretzels were too hard to resist. They were good and balanced out the cider well. Better yet, there were 2 per order! We also ordered 1 pound of their lemon and herb baked chicken wings and 1 pound of the peach chipotle bbq wings. First off, we were surprised to get full wings in the basket (leg, wing and tip as one piece). The wings also came out steaming hot, fresh from the oven. The peach chipotle bbq was the winner here as the lemon and herb wings didn't have much flavour to them. Great old church turned brewery! The decor here was great! decorated for Christmas and seemed cozy. They do a great job with seating because this place is small! They have a manager watching the door and directing people to open seats. We had a group of 4, and the manager asked 2 people (who turned to be regulars) if they wouldn't mind moving to a smaller table. All said and done with grace and a smile! Good choice of beer, but my girlfriend and I wanted wine (I know, it's a brewery!) Only 2 choices - 1 red, 1 white! It's ok though. The red was good! Very crowded and very loud. Staff was great! Decided to try this spot for a quick lunch on the last day of our stay at Niagara on the lake, and I am so glad that we did! My boyfriend recommended this place after trying it earlier in the year and it did not disappoint! The food was great, and the location is super cool since it was formerly a church. The menu had multiple different types of fried chicken sandwiches, so obviously we needed to give those a try. I ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich, which was DELICIOUS, and actually quite spicy. The chicken had a very crispy coating, covered with hot chili oil and cayenne hot sauce, so it was super juicy, making for a pretty messy sandwich (although it was worth the mess). The portion was also HUGE, I could only finish about half of it. My only wish was that the chicken was slightly smaller because it didn't really fit inside the bun, making it a little tough to eat. However overall, I still really, really enjoyed this sandwich. My boyfriend ordered Sweet n' sassy fried chicken sandwich which was definitely not as spicy as the Nashville chicken, but it also had hot sauce and honey for sweetness. He enjoyed this sandwich a lot as well! Another dish that is a must try at this spot is the tater tots! We shared the cheesy jalapeño tots which were sooo yummy, with a hint of spice from the jalapeños; we loved this dish! What's a trip to NOTL without visiting a brewery? Silversmith was on the list of places to go while here for the weekend. The weather was screaming patio and we were lucky to get a seat. I'd never had their beer before, so I was excited to check this place out. Lots of free parking too! The servers were all enthusiastic about beer, so we were right at home. We grabbed some snacks before we headed 'downtown NOTL for the night. The patio runs along the side of the vine covered building. It's a really cool place! Silversmith only does the beer; Mason Made Well takes care of the food. I went with the Baked Goat Cheese & Ricotta Dip. It tasted just as sexy as it sounds. The salty flavours of the goat cheese and the mellow flavours of the ricotta were blended into this heavenly, fluffy dip. Damn right, I finished it. My friend went with wings and she loved them. Mason offers the most interesting wing flavours, like Korean BBQ(hot), Tandoori Dambuster(med) and Peach & Golden Ale(mild). Next time I'm in Niagara on the Lake, I'll definitely be back. This was hands down the best brewery experience I have ever had! Our bartender, Jeff, was phenomenal! He chatted with us throughout our meal, which was lovely. The food was so tasty. We had the buffalo chicken sandwich which had great flavor and the chicken had this amazing crispy breading but still very juicy meat inside.
