We were greeted at Vocelli by the rich smell of garlic and the sounds of a bustling kitchen. Finally, the main event. The pizza: hot, melty cheese, crispy yet light and soft crust. The Stromboli: packed with flavor, bursting at the seams, perfection. I worked at DiCarlo's in downtown Wheeling, West Virginia, and my experience was extremely…read moredisappointing. A co-worker repeatedly directed racial slurs at me and threatened me. The owner and manager met with me the very next day to discuss what happened. Rather than remove me from a hostile situation, the solution was to put us on different shifts, which didn't feel like an appropriate response to the repeated slurs and threats. So, I left. The co-worker was later fired but rehired weeks later, which I did not understand. I was also told another employee later left because of the same co-worker's rude and disrespectful behavior, though they weren't subjected to racial slurs. Other co-workers also reported her rude and disrespectful behavior to the owner and management, but, based on my experience, those concerns were not appropriately addressed. Based on my experience, I do not believe these concerns were handled appropriately, and I can't recommend working at or supporting that location.
