First time trying this pizza place up in Wheeling, West Virginia wife and I knew it was gonna be good. Wasn't used to the loose provolone that they put on top of it so we asked them to melt it for us and they did we tried it first it was a little weird having the cold mozzarella on top of the hot pizza. Enjoyed a dinner stop here in the downtown location on a Sunday evening during an overnight stay in Wheeling in mid-June 2025. First, I would say this traditional spot is filled with history (established in the 1940s) and is a place where local families come for pizza. Second, the service is friendly at the front register. Third, the unmelted cheese on top of your "pizza square" differs from traditional New York style pizza but is satisfying if you're hungry. Overall, I enjoyed watching the locals and families. Although downtown Wheeling, WV may have changed, I think DiCarlo's Pizza has probably stayed the same for 75+ years. read more

Grew up eating this pizza, stopped in recently while in town and glad to see it hasn't changed. If you've never had it before, hopefully you've picked up that the cheese goes on after it comes out of the oven. Very different style, people either love it or they don't. Worth trying if you've never had it. I always just get pepperoni with extra cheese. It's best right out of the oven when the crust is crispy and the cheese hasn't melted at all. If you take it home the crust with probably not be crispy and the cheese will melt a bit. If you find yourself liking the unmelted cheese and you're not eating there, think about getting your extra cheese on the side in a bag. read more

Finally got the chane to check out the legendary DiCarlo's! I really enjoyed the 3 slice combo, & the kids loved rhe pepperoni rolls. I am a fan of the Ohio Valley Style pizza that we get closer to home at Beato's. Comparitvely, Dicarlo's has a smoother sauce with more thang, and a thinner crispier crust. Barbie likes to eat a few slices of this amazing unique delicacy and then rush to the hotel room, pizza box in hand, where she makes me put the DiC in DiCarlo's. And in other places too. Who knew that Wheeling West Virginia would have such wonderful signature pizza - as the hipsters would say. It's truly remarkable and delicious. It's very unique to West Virginia and especially this little corner of it... at the north end. It's basically an invention of Wheeling itself and a wonderful one at that. DiC is a wonderful little pizza shop located in Wheeling and who would have thought that Wheeling would have its own style of pizza? Not only is it very specific to West Virginia but it's actually delicious. Surprisingly shockingly and unequivocally delicious. For these reasons we love it and for this reason I will probably keep coming here in future on many occasions - hopefully long into the future. My ex loves it, my current loves it, if there are any future ones, probably co-dating with my current, hopefully they'll love it too. One of the best pizza places in the country I would definitely rated top 20 especially for its uniqueness and awesomeness. Ok--my family and I fell in love with this place, and it was our first try. At the recommendation of a friend, we tried this after years of him telling us to make the drive down to try it. Since we were in the area on our way down to Oglebay, we gave it a shot. And, boy...I REALLY wish we would have tried it sooner. We had to eat it in the car, picnic style... and the pizza was so good, that it didn't even matter that we were all stuffed in the van, elbows deep with each other. The crust--fantastic. We ordered it "crispy", as it was one of the options, and man...unreal. We ordered the cheese "melted", as that was also one of the options, and it was very good. The sauce--my new favorite, of all time. This just became my favorite pizza. And, we live so far away, that I am honestly really sad. Wish I had enough money to offer a franchise, and open it in my backyard. :) Dreaming of the day when we can make the drive back down. read more

I remember the first time I had this pizza years ago. I ordered two slices and when I got to my truck I ate them both and then proceeded to walk back in and order two more slices. Yeah, it's that good! It's one of my favorite pizza places in WV but the Elm Grove one was always my favorite. I haven't ate there since it changed names but I assume it is still the same, hopefully! I see some people on here have complained about not liking the unmelted cheese but why would you even order it then considering they are specifically known for it. Ask for it melted if you don't think you will like it cold. Simple! Personally, I love it! The crust is the perfect thickness and the crunch is just right. Finally getting a slice again from here was a must on my most recent time in Wheeling. The crust is one of the best I have ever had. It is crispy and tastes very fresh. I have been eating DiCarlo's pizza for over 40 years and I have to say this was the best that I have ever eaten. I don't know the young man's name that was cooking on Thursday, 12/14/23 at around 4:30 pm in the downtown location, but hats off to him. My father also thought it was excellent. I no longer live in Wheeling, and I always get some DiCarlo's when I am in town. I even had some the last time I was in Myrtle Beach this Fall. When I lived in Wheeling I ate pizza from DiCarlo's at least once a week. read more

Nice big dining room and a counter you order at looked like a lot of people were getting takeouts. The place is known for pizza that's cooked and than they put on cold cheese. This isn't going to be your typical review as it isn't regarding the food. I'm a dasher & I have picked up orders from Dicarlos atleast 100 times. Today, I picked up another order from there to deliver. I had been dashing all day & needed to use the restroom. I walked in and headed straight for the restroom. The owner Toni, chased me down as I was going into the restroom & was yelling loudly "We don't have public restrooms". I politely said "I apologize, I'm a dasher from DD & I am picking up a customer's order but need to use the restroom". She then snapped her finger & said "no, no dashers are allowed to use our restroom". Excuse me, but us dashers are helping these restaurants by picking up their customers orders. Yet, we aren't allowed to use the restroom?!?! I WILL CONTINUE TO INFORM ALL DELIVERY DRIVERS ABOUT THIS‼‼ She was NOT polite whatsoever. She was very loud & very rude and she embarrassed me in front of several employees and several customers. I was so humiliated that my eyes were filling with tears. I've NEVER had a restaurant employee or owner speak to me that terrible before. All because I needed to use the restroom. I WILL NEVER pick up an order fTom the Wheeling Dicarlos again, nor will most DD drivers that I spoke to today in our group chat‼ I have made a complaint through DD already. I'm also an UE delivery driver & plan to share this with those drivers as well‼ UE & DD makes up more then half of Dicarlos carry out orders so the owner clearly didn't think of that before she humiliated me today ‼ read more

My parents grew up eating DiCarlo's pizza, and they made sure to always take us as kids whenever we visited the Ohio Valley. We used to always go to the Elm Grove location, but after they changed to Patsy's, we've found the best tasting nearby DiCarlo's to be this one in Downtown Wheeling. With crispy crust and the classic 2 pepperonis, I will never get enough of this square pizza. I can easily eat 3 pieces, so always order more than what you think you'll eat! Plus, leftovers are never a bad idea! Also, don't forget your bag of cheese! A $1 will typically last for 6-8 pieces. The location in Weirton is also really great, but we don't usually make it out there. read more

I'm not a big fan of the whole hot crust and sauce with cold cheese topping pizza thing; that bring said, DiCarlo's is the best I've had. The crust is good, although at times it fails to hold up under the weight of the cheese. The sauce is good, not too sweet, and the cheese is of good quality. Good and generous servings of pepperoni, but the sausage and mushroom topping I ordered most recently had the same fate as the crust. It just didn't stand up to the pile of cheese on top of it. Decent pizza, nothing to hate about it but also nothing to rave about. What I really don't get about this place (and the reason for the below average rating) is the long wait. Every time I have eaten here, I have waited a minimum of one half hour for my order. On my last visit, my four slices of pizza took nearly 45 minutes from order to table. In a pizza shop with as much traffic as this one gets, the pizzas should be produced at a much greater rate. The staff is courteous and polite but I don't see much organization of tasks. I have seen the employee making the pizzas answer the phone, immediately put the caller on hold, and then go back to making pizzas; prep workers helping the cashier ring up orders, and so on. Bottom line: Decent pizza, decent price, long wait. Don't go here if you're in a hurry to eat. Ample parking. read more

This location lacks some of that crazy chaos of a packed lobby, waiting for your number to be called, and stealing someone's number if they don't show up immediately. This location has seating inside the restaurant (unlike Elm Grove), toppings other than just pepperoni, and menu items in addition to pizza: sandwiches and pepperoni rolls. DiCarlos pizza is delicious. They have their crispy crust and tomatoey sauce that is cooked and then the cheese and pepperoni (2 slices) is added once it is cooked so it does not melt. I personally cannot eat cheese, but it is still delicious without the cheese! DiCarlos pizza is a must every time I visit Wheeling! read more

We love the pizza here. Not everybody does. Di Carlo's is a totally different pizza than anywhere else that I have been. Some people seem to like the National Road location better. I think they are both great. This Di Carlo's has indoor seating which is a plus. This is a great place to people watch during lunch or dinner while waiting for your slices to be prepared. This location also has bottled beer. The pieces have crunchy crust with a great tomato sauce. They then put cheese on it and let it melt on the slice. This is a unique experience to eat a hot pizza slice with cold cheese on top. Real flavorful. You will either love it or you will hate it. If you are driving/visiting WV and you are looking for a local pizza spot comparable yet higher quality to, say, a Domino's or Papa John's... do NOT go here. You are better off getting 7/11 pizza if you want something in that general direction. No disrespect to the people of Wheeling, but I don't understand the cold cheese AT ALL and everything else from the crust to the sauce tastes extremely bland. So... I stopped by the Wheeling Main Street DiCarlos and I noticed that they changed the recipe ... sauce different, cheese different.

On our way back from Ohio back to WV, we looked for a nice local pizza joint. We located this gem approximately 10 miles away from the state line and let me tell ya...possibly the best pizza I've had. Their pizza was measured by the slice and not inches like traditional pizza joints. The girlfriend and I ordered the 6 slice...holy s&$t!!!! In Hawaii, we call this Ono. From the first bite to the last was...it was like biting into something made in Heaven...Ono!! The cheese is loaded on after the pizza is cooked and melts as you partake in devouring each slice. Service was meh...but, the pizza superseded any of my expectations even when comparing to NYC. Excellent job!! Great pizza, good location. Will return and recommend!! read more

Unique pizza joint established in the late 40s, I think I read on the sign. Pizza served in square "cuts" (slices). They cook the crust with the sauce and then add toppings and cheese after it's cooked. Different. No melty take all the toppings off the slice bites here. Unmelted cheese is the key difference bw this and other pizza. It's not bad. It's just different. The toppings were of decent quality. The sauce appears house made and had good flavor. I liked the taste of the cheese on the pizza I didn't think it was "cold". The residual heat slightly melts the cheese. It's just not super stringy melty like you would associate with traditional pizza. The crust was really crisp. It was thicker than a thin crust but far less dense than a pan. Like a super crispy chewy hand tossed but the flavor and texture are better than most quick service pizza joints. Wasn't super greasy like you generally get with pizza. Likely a byproduct of not melting the cheese / cooking the toppings on the pie. Which helped the crust remain so crisp. I'm glad I tried it. I liked it. If they had this place where I'm from I would add it to the rotation for quick take out pizza night. The service was prompt and friendly. Place had a steady stream of business the entire time we were there. Pricier than a Pizza Hut/ Dominos. read more

Slamming the phone, register, and door to the pizza oven. Gave me my change, I said thanks, he didn't acknowledge, just turned away. Cussing that the effing game ending now means they will get customers before they close. Talking about the GlenDale store as well so he obviously worked there also. Visibly mad and complaining.
