My first experience here was fantastic, so it's really disappointing that it has gone so south. I am working on a new construction that we ordered lights for and many things have gone wrong. I was not told that I ordered a item not stocked and now we still haven't received it and is costing our project significant delays since we can't pass inspection without this item so construction has been stopped. I've called my rep Valerie multiple times and left voicemails and also called the store directly. No one answered or returned my calls any of the times. (They are not eager to respond to emails either.) Horrible customer service. Our contractor recommended this place and he is very disappointed now too. I do NOT recommend. read more

We had a first-class experience with Dominion Lighting and, specifically with Josh Mollet as our designer. We are building a home remotely in the mountains of North Carolina, but are fortunate enough to live close to Dominion. It is certainly overwhelming to consider the scope and scale of a new build, and to think about what you would like the lighting to look like and how you would like it to function when the space doesn't even exist. We had the absolute best time working with Josh. First, he helped us hone our aesthetic vision, and to build cohesion into the lighting design. He also helped us wrestle with the technical challenges of recessed lighting in high slope ceilings. Through the entire process, he gave us the confidence we needed to easily make decisions and to put the vision into action for our home. Throughout the entire process, Josh was highly responsive, he communicated with clarity, and he had a fantastic sense of humor, challenging each of us appropriately when we were stuck in some kind of rut. His efficiency is remarkable and his design eye and skill is obvious. On top of all of this, he produced documentation that clearly conveyed the plan to our electrician, making our recent electrical walkthrough the best one he had ever been on. The electrician told us that most of the time people arrive with little to no clue of what they want, and it is a laborious, frustrating and overwhelming process. We arrived with our Josh plans and knew exactly where things were going to be and what they would look like. We are very excited to see this house come into reality. We know the lighting we selected will bring warmth and beauty to to spaces, both interior and exterior, and we feel that Dominon and Josh provided great value to us and our project. read more

Very disappointing and awkward experience. We needed a chandelier ASAP. I was told on the phone that the only way to get one quickly was to come in. I drove 40 min to come to the showroom and more than half of it was closed down for renovation. Very little inventory in the showroom and most pieces are way to expensive for what they are. 5 sales people in the room and one said hi. I had to ask for help and received very little. Not a friendly place. Should have heeded the other negative reviews here. Go somewhere else or order online. read more

Shopping for lighting can be challenging. The options, the cost, and even the service. With this, I was so grateful to have found Dominion. I worked with Claudia at the Chantilly location from start to finish and could not have been more happy and satisfied with my experience. She assisted us with purchasing two fixtures. Both were focal points in two different rooms. At the time of shopping for the fixtures, she was incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, patient, and kind. I was so impressed. Her great attitude and service continued through the purchase and even after the sale, as we ran into an installation issue with one of the fixtures. She work diligently and competently with the manufacturer of the fixture and found an absolutely perfect solution. Today, both fixtures are properly hung, look amazing, and again, we could not be more happy. We will absolutely be sure to source Claudia and Dominion Lighting for any future lighting needs. Dominion was my second stop in researching under-cabinet LED fixtures. A big plus is that you don't need an appointment here, unlike my experience at Ferguson. Someone will actually talk to you if you walk in. Unfortunately, the current state of LED affairs at Dominion - makes the customer feel as if the LED fixtures are an afterthought. A couple were installed under the counter up where some of the staff sit and work - so to look at them you sort of feel like you are intruding in their work space. Other LED fixtures are haphazardly scattered about - some installed so that you can check out the light they emit, while others sat in a stack on a counter. I provided some constructive feedback to the salesperson - that I felt like they were doing the LED fixtures a disservice by displaying them in a not-so-cohesive fashion. She did not want to hear that and disagreed with me. Dominion needs to get its act together. It would be fairly simple to display all of the LED fixtures in such a way that they are not scattered about, under people's desks and such. read more

Sadly, like most other reviewers have said, this companies attention to customers is severely lacking. I walked in to an expansive show room, with an amazing variety of fixtures, and a ton of employees sitting behind their computers not even bothering to look up. I walked around the showroom with a couple of ideas of what I was looking for and a budget in mind but no one bothered to even greet me. I made sure to really walk around the entire space and passed a few desks, but they just seemed uninterested in me, maybe I didn't look like I had money? I dunno, there were no smiles of acknowledgement so I didn't actually feel comfortable approaching any of the people. So, even though I found a couple of fixtures that might have worked in my dining room and bathrooms, I left without a word to any one. Oh well. read more

We just built a new house and Dominion Electric supplied all the light fixtures and ceiling fans. What we thought was an issue with the main living room ceiling fan being noisy turned out to be improper installation by the electrician (the fan blades were upside down). Poor customer service. I went into the showroom to browse for some lights to complete my bathroom project. There were at least 5 employees sitting behind desks, one of whom greeted me. Another was helping a a customer. I did not have an appointment, but It would have felt welcoming to have been asked by one of the unoccupied employees if I needed any help or if I'd like to make an appointment. I was in the store for 25 minutes and it didn't happen. My message to them: be kind and polite to everyone and don't judge a book by its cover or color. read more

I just wanted to say that working with Bryant was one of the most satisfying experiences I have ever had. I was there to pick up electrical supplies and I must have had the poor guy run back and add to my order 5-6 times and he didn't complain once. My kitchen lights - from the late 1980's - were these rather dim "balloon" lights and it was finally time to replace them. After looking around online and at Lowe's and Home Depot, I decided to give Dominion's showroom a try (you have to check when they are open and be aware you will probably need to make a U-turn on Rt 50 to get to them). I had looked at some of the Kichler products online, but the lady at Dominion gave me a catalog and in about a week I was ready to make a decision. The lighting professionals at Dominion ordered exactly what I wanted with the ancillary pieces (rod extensions, etc.) I spent over $1200 on two large LED-style light fixtures and had them professionally installed. I am extremely happy with the purchasing process, the installation, and the lights! read more

Very Impressed If you've ever bought something online that doesn't look as nice when you get it, then this place is for you. For something like lighting fixtures, we need to see it in person, not just an image online or in a catalog. This place has a nice showroom. It's not huge, but they how probably hundreds of different lighting fixtures and ceiling fans to look at. Their website recommended making an appointment, but we just wanted to browse so we went in there. The fixtures that they have vary among price, size and purpose. They have some huge chandeliers for like five thou, and some smaller fixtures for a couple hundred. They have hanging fixtures, ceiling fans, and wall-mounted fixtures, even some for outdoors. I was told that most of the items in the display room are in-stock. On their website they have literally thousands of items that you can order and have shipped. Like I said, we didn't have an appointment, but a very helpful person started talking to us after we'd been there for a while. She made some very insightful recommendations and explained that most items on display come in different sizes. When Precious found the item she liked best, she started asking about measurements. She recommended that we go back home and measure the height of the ceiling to make sure the item won't hang too low (sure enough - the fixture that Precious had her eye on would have hung too low in the spot we wanted it for). So I guess we'll be going back with our measurements to pick out another. read more

I have exhausted every lighting store in the Fairfax area, many of which I visited frequently. We are doing a kitchen makeover and the lighting had to be right. Dominion in Chantilly had the absolute nicest and most informative salespeople. I wish I could remember the name of the first woman I worked with as she was terrific. I went back and Caitlin Gilhuys helped me with the final decisions. I would recommend this store for their individual attention. I never had an appointment which is a good idea but they really took time with me. I am happy with my purchases and they have a terrific delivery service. read more

I should've read reviews before committing over $6k to this place. After not including everything in my order that I needed, the salesman said he ordered what I needed and even placed a rush on it. A few days later, I received the part I needed in the wrong finish. I left him 2 messages days apart and he acted like I only called once but he apologized for "being off site." So he works off site but doesn't pick up his messages all week? Then he blamed a woman for the order error! When I asked who this random woman was, he ignored my question. He said he would have the part ordered again but this time didn't rush the order, which I discovered when I waited 10 days to receive the wrong item AGAIN. At least the finish was correct but not what I needed. I called the main number this time and asked whomever answered to please fix this. That was a HUGE mistake. I should've asked to speak with the manager. This young woman at first seemed to get the ball rolling but it's been 2 weeks, no product even though they said it was to be delivered to their store (again, no rush delivering directly to me). We live in Bethesda. My hubby works in Centreville, VA. We found a line of exterior lights that looked good online but really wanted to get an idea of the craftsmanship in person. The website of the lighting manufacturer listed Dominion Electric as one that carried their products so hubby and I made plans to meet there one afternoon. Since the showroom hours are limited, hubby left work early. We were not expecting them to have the exact model that we had our eyes on; but, if what they had in the showroom looked good, we were prepared place a sizable order. Well, I can't say anything to their pricing or products because I was largely ignored by the entire staff--both times I went in. I got to the area really early (I wanted to avoid rush hour) and was in the store for more than 40 minutes looking at all lights. Completely ignored, no eye contact, and any attempt I made to walk up to someone sitting at a desk doing *nothing*, the very quickly got on the phone. So I left to run some other errands and met up with the hubby at our planned time. Same thing - we might as well have been invisible. One sale gal was working, but she was already working with a customer. In all fairness, maybe they don't sell to the general public...or maybe I had to make an appointment with a designer. If so, information on their website should have indicated so. So that's my one star review. If I could give zero or negative stars I would...for wasting both of our times. read more

My wife and I have driven by this store for quite some time and were looking for 2 special chandeliers, so we decided to stop by. There were about 5 women sitting behind desks. All were either on the phone or speaking with someone at their desks. Seeing that everyone was busy, my wife and I strolled around the shop for AT LEAST 10 mins waiting for someone to greet us. No one said a word to us. I'm not exaggerating - we strolled past everyone's desk and no one acknowledged us with even a glance. Even if we had seen something that caught our eye, I can't imagine patronizing a business that doesn't train employees to greet customers upon entering the store. Personable, knowledgeable, and with an eye for detail; they have always steered me in the right direction for my needs and budget. For 25 years I have relied on the manager Amanda. Luckily, she has assembled a group as good as her. A wide variety of lights and fans are on display and just an order away if I find my special fixture in one of the numerous, up to date catalogs. Very disappointed in my visit here. Cane in to inquire about ceiling fans and replacement lights in our home, and the lady who helped me was not helpful at all. They only had a handful of ceiling fans on display and all she said was " you can look at our website for more". When I pushed for more assistance in looking for what I need, she just gave me a (year old) catalog she said I could look through. She wasn't much more help when I was asking about a couple of replacement fixtures in my house; just kept asking what I was looking for.. well what I was looking for was help in choosing what makes sense! Stopped in off and on looking for the perfect fixture. The staff is very helpful but I can understand why some customers may have felt ignored. I happened to appreciate not having a sales person hovering as I walked the showroom, but that's not true for everyone. When I inquired about several fixtures Kaitlyn was very happy to help and was great at returning my call when I had questions. They offer free delivery which was super helpful. The manufacturer's web site listed Dominion as a source. I called Dominion and and spoke to Claudia. She called the manufacturer that day and called me back with the details. She said Dominion would even deliver them to my home, so I never had to drive out to the store. My order was very small, but she treated it like it was a high-dollar order. I found a chandelier online, and the manufacturer website said Dominion Electric is a distributor. I didn't know if they would have it in stock, but I went anyways and they had JUST installed the one I wanted in their showroom. The woman was semi friendly, she seemed busy. I took my husband back and we worked with Caitlin who was wonderful. They took the chandelier down for us because it was the only one they had. One of the pieces wasn't packaged well and it broke. No problem, Dominion called the manufacturer and they ordered us 3 more replacements when I only asked for one. They were very responsive by email. And the best part is that the price was LESS than I found online, even with tax. Even if they had been a little bit more, I would have ordered with Dominion because I would rather support local. My husband went to Dominion in search of more chain for an aged bronze light fixture that I purchased from a consignment shop while visiting in another state. We have a cathedral ceiling, so needed more chain, and a longer ground wire, in order to hang the fixture properly. After waiting in line in the front of the store, he was told that he needed to go to the parts dept. in the back. Waited in another line, only to be told that he needed to ask at the front of the store. Back to the front, waited again, talked to a salesperson who stated simply that they did not have what we needed, and showed no interest whatsoever in helping him find a way to order these items. Selection is not super great, they have a lot of lighting, but much of it is outdated. We were able to find a few modern pieces, though, and decided on one. We told the associate and someone who seemed like the manager that we wanted to purchase one of the lights. They only had the one that was displayed. They wouldn't give us any discount for the floor model and wouldn't even throw in the used bulbs. We decided to still purchase and they explained that the man who takes down the lights won't do it, because it takes 15 minutes to do. It was 20-25 minutes until closing, and they refused to give us the light. Really?? They turned down a $500+ sale 20+ minutes before they close?? Tried to convince us to purchase and come back another day, we refused. Not worth buying from them. Zero customer obsession, too lazy to make a sale! read more
