I received a Brazilian wax today and I want to say that it was sincerely the most painless, most amazing experience. Dolma is a genuinely caring human being who takes her time and technique to make sure the process is smooth and painless. She even uses threading to make sure all the "stubborn" hairs were removed. I have zero reason to break the streak of 5-star reviews. She is a perfect example of why I love Yelp. How else would I have ever found a trustworthy place en route from Penn Station to my AirTrain adjacent hotel on the eve of my flight to Jamaica? I was coming into NYC from the Hershey/Harrisburg area (where I could not find a reputable place.) I showed up on poor Dolma's door near closing time, and although she was clearly tired, she took me as a walk-in. I've had a bad wax before -- ingrown hairs for a year. So not cool. I have become pickier about who does my waxing than who my doctor is. Everything everyone else says is true -- professional, fast, great job, reasonable price. I have very sensitive skin on a couple areas of my body, and my irritation vanished in about 12-18 hours. (I get much more/lasting irritation from shaving.) Great aftercare by Dolma (aloe is awesome) and tips/reminders (I snagged some hydrocortisone at Duane Reade and applied some before bed.) I just enjoyed not having to shave my girly bits for my entire Jamaican vacation! I wish to hell Dolma lived in LA! read more

I have been going to Dolma since October 2013 for my Brazilian and she's truly amazing. It was my first time getting it done she was very sweet, kind and talked me through the entire thing. I walked out feeling very happy that I have someone I can alway go back to. I always make an appointment via text and she always reply back with a confirmation... It's so easy! She's clean, quick and her waxing doesn't hurt at all. She doesn't double dip in her wax. After she's done, she uses aloe to soothes the area and sometimes threads the little hairs (she's a perfectionist ) Her office is in a Chropractor office... So what? Her office is alway very clean and she's always welcoming. I don't believe the bad review about her being rude or sloppy since I have never experience that before. That was the fastest and most pain free Brazilian I've ever had. Dolma is the real deal. She has twenty years of experience and her technique made the pain much more tolerable than traditional waxing. She uses a smaller stick and goes over smaller patches but fast so instead of one giant bandaid rip it's a bunch of tiny ones. I've never been done in fifteen min but she knows her stuff. I'm not shy when it comes to waxing the nethers, I'll go anywhere as long as it's done safely, correctly and as painlessly as possible. But I'm also a people person and I immediately felt comfortable with Dolma. Her waxing techniques are safe, gentle, and the pain was minimal. And she applies a soothing aloe gel afterwards. I've had amazing and terrible experience with getting my brows done in my life. Dolma's is definitely one of the better brow spots in the city. For reference, I used to go t Boom Boom Brow Bar in Greenwich Village. I just don't have time to go more downtown, so I was on a hunt for somewhere near home. Dolma's is reasonably priced and pays attention to detail - both qualities I'm looking for in a brow spot. It's extremely clean and the environment is serene. They use wax and then, if you say okay, they'll clean up extra spots with threading (which I think is usually more precise than a tweezer). They'll always remind you to not put hot water or anything on your recently waxed area, which honestly, I need to be reminded of sometimes. I always call ahead to see if they're busy (just like 15-30 minutes before I head over). Highly recommend! Been here 3x already. read more

Truly as good as it gets. I received a simple *underarm* wax & *eyebrow* threading. The shared office maintains a relaxing atmosphere & Dolma's Waxing private rooms are well kept. The underarm wax happened within a few breaths, with professional dexterity, no pain or irritation, and a quick precise clean-up afterwards. The quality + speed of the wax stood out from the semi-regular underarm waxes I've received the past four years. I felt compelled to write this review because I have never known my eyebrows to exist as they do today. Until now, I had surrendered to the formless, feathered cloudy blocks that were my eyebrows. I had adjusted to the mediocre area clean-ups, the shaping into smaller cloudy blocks that I could expect if I ever sought eyebrow threading or waxing. So, I just came back from having a Brazilian wax with Dolma, and I had to come and review because -- well -- I was impressed. For starters, this was my FIRST Brazilian ever. I've gotten bikini waxes in the past (it's been about a decade now), but I was concerned because I've never gotten "The Full Monty." I found Dolma on Yelp and went to my first appointment with her yesterday afternoon. The service I received was for a Brazilian Bikini Wax, of which I've had many with various professionals. After a horrible experience at Uni-K on the Upper East Side (it felt like a factory...I was in and out of there in 15 minutes tops, and the results were puffy red bumps and a ton of ingrown hairs over the following month), I needed to find someone, and fast. I'm new to NYC and really miss the gal I was going to back in California...but I figured, there HAS to be someone just as good here, right? It is NYC after all... Dolma's office is only a few blocks from my work so it was very convenient. Easy to make an appointment and I didn't have to book weeks in advance. I went to Dolma today and had the best Brazilian wax I have ever had. I read the other reviews on Yelp and was excited yet skeptical to go to Dolma because I have extremely sensitive skin and usually get very irritated after treatments. First of all, I called 2 hours before and she fit me in to her busy schedule even though I have never been to her before. Secondly, the office was clean and comfortable to be in. Thirdly, she offers you water when you go in and candy on the way out (yes!). But on to the wax, I was nervous because I haven't gotten it done in a little over three months but Dolma calmed me down and talked to me throughout the whole wax. She told me about the different waxes she uses, about how to help my sensitive skin, etc. She was a very professional AND someone who I felt comfortable talking to. Also, I thought that I would be extremely red and irritated afterwards but I wasn't! But thankfully that is not the case, and while I reside in New York, I will continue to go to this lovely establishment. It was the best Brazilian waxing experience I had ever had! I relocated back to NYC from DC, where I had the best waxing specialist (Naghmeh, At Ibiza Day Spa, if anyone finds themselves there and in a bind - she's amazing). I have been looking far and wide in this city for someone just as good, and I've finally found her! Dolma is a Godsend. She is so sweet, so professional, and my brazilian barely hurt at all. One of my biggest issues is the hard wax every other salon seems to use. I react terribly too it, and the wax barely lasts more than 2 weeks! I much prefer the soft wax and strips, which is what Dolma uses. She is so quick and THOROUGH - she even threads what's left to make sure no hair is left behind. After 4.5 years of living in NYC, I am so happy to have found Dolma! I have been going to her since November 2013. She is the BEST person to go to for waxing and threading, especially eyebrow threading (and I have tried just about every reputable place in NYC)!! Update: She not only sent me a email thanking me for coming in for the first time, she managed to squeeze me in today for a last minute appointment for a Brazilian, which was great. I also forgot to add, she does not double dip and wears gloves and she always checks to make sure she has not missed a spot. So I just came back from my appointment and have to say I am impressed. All the reviews about her are true. She is the sweetest person in the world. She does a great job and even goes the extra mile for client to be happy. I was getting my arms and back waxed for a press party I need to go to and since she knew I was wearing a strapless dress she went out of her way to do my shoulders without me even asking. In addition to her being very neat and thorough, I was surprised by the lack of pain. I have been doing waxing for years because I have a lot of hair due to a hormonal imbalance. She definitely knows what she is doing and does it very well. Unlike other aestheticians, she does not try to push any of her services on you. Since I have started doing laser on other parts of my body she did not try to convince me to wax there instead ( unlike a couple of other places I know have in the past). First, the positive (which kept it from a 1 star rating)- very accessible for people working in the midtown area, easy to schedule an appointment, and as others have already said, Dolma is extremely nice and welcoming. Her studio is also very clean and nice. Now for the bad- I went in for a nose waxing to deal with nostril hair. I've had it done before at Uni K on the Upper East Side, and it was a pain-free and easy experience. But not having time to go up to Uni K, I decided to try Dolma. The method Dolma used was very different from the method that Uni K employed, and was very painful compared to my previous experience. The worst part was that the wax that Dolma used was WAY too hot, and ended up burning my nostrils. After three days, the blistering has subsided, skin started to peel and now it just looks like I had a really bad cold with a red nose. I don't know if this was just a "one-off" instance for Dolma or not, but my experience was terrible. I won't be going back and I'd be very hesitant to recommend anyone going there. read more

I've seen Dolma twice now for a Brazilian. She was the only person I have ever tried and found her because of positive yelp reviews. She is fantastic; she is quick, friendly and very thorough. What I like about her, is that she uses a different stick for each dip and once she is done waxing, she goes over everything with thread to make sure there are no pesky leftover hairs. Also, if you have any ingrown hairs, she will also take care of them for you. Another thing I really like about her way of waxing, is that she uses aloe from an aloe plant on you once you are finished- this is exceptionally great for healing and disinfecting. In terms of pain- its a brazilian. They are all painful, but certainly not the worst pain I've every experienced. She is also very great about being there for you in case you have any questions or concerns- you can just text her! The salon is clean and she is very hygienic (i.e. she wears gloves, wipes everything down after you leave, changes the paper roll on the chair, etc.). It is also a *cash* business- and I can't say that her prices are crazy. $60 for a great brazilian is fine with me! read more

Dolma is amazing! I've been getting waxed by her for over 3 years and don't trust anyone else anymore. First of all she doesn't double dip which has spoiled me to any other waxer because now i get really skeeved out if i go somewhere else and they double dip! She's extremely clean! secondly, she's the only waxer I've had who I don't get ingrowns after. After I finally decided to get a facial from her b/c I'm really prone to acne and breakouts I was really impressed. I had a facial lady for a long time that did extreme extractions and it didn't help me at all. After Dolma's facial i was shocked, i walked out with amazingly soft and clear skin. She isn't aggressive and doesn't pick each pimple, instead she exfoliates and massages the skin and does a mild extraction which is incredibly effective. Highly recommend! read more

I really was hoping to have a good experience. Since I lost my former waxer, I have been bouncing around trying new places in hopes of finding another person to see regularly. First of all I agree with Erica W's review. Also Dolma's style is direct and business-like, she doesn't give you a moment to change alone. She gets in there right away and I would describe her waxing style as "having a fast pace over small areas" . I am vocally squeamish even though I've been waxing fairly regularly over the last 10 years and have tried many people. In the middle of the wax she says to me, "If you can't take this pain, how can you ever have a baby?". I can't believe she would say something so mean when first of all I am in a vulnerable, painful state spread eagled in front of her and secondly - she knows nothing about me nor my history with children and child birth. I was offended and hurt. I started crying as she was waxing, and asked her to just go ahead and finish the job. After waxing, she slathered aloe, threaded the extra hairs, I paid her and got the hell out. The wax is fine, but I am never going back there. Awful. read more

I tried this place because of yelp but I probably won't go back. I like the lift type office atmosphere and the esthetician was really sweet but her technique was a little rough. I got a Brazilian wax and she did do it section by section but she did not put light pressure on the area after it was waxed. Aka speed waxing the proper way. I felt she was just ripping and pulling the wax strips off. I was super sore afterwards and the waxing post care was lacking. I think she used some type of oil or lotion.
