Our job was simple: we bought a piece of furniture that we hired Dolly to move to our house, less than 30 minutes from the pickup. Great Idea; Terrible Execution; Worse Customer Service I needed help moving a single, large, heavy item. From their website and the initial forms I filled out, Dolly, seemed like a great fit for this need. I submitted a request to have two helpers assist me with this move. I listed my single item in the move details and was matched with a helper who was willing and able to assist with this. Everything seemed to be going great thus far. Dolly, only permits you to request up to two helpers per job. I felt that three or four people would be needed to safely complete this move. As a result, I submitted another identical request to have additional movers help with the job. I was matched with another helper who informed me that even though I was paying nearly $80, they were receiving less than $15 for their services. As a result, they declined to assist me with this job and told me I would need to cancel it and try again. I did so, but got matched with the same individual who again told me that they were not willing to assist with this job. I then contacted Dolly's support team to explain my situation and ask if there was anything they could do to assist me in finding someone to help out with this job. Shortly thereafter I received a very generic response only notifying me that job had been cancelled. When I checked my account, I found that not only the problematic job/reservation had been cancelled but additionally my initial reservation with the helper who was willing to assist me had also been cancelled. This was a very disappointing surprise. I assumed this was the result of some sort of mistake by Dolly's customer support team, so I followed up via email to explain what had happened and ask for the initial reservation to be un-cancelled/reinstated. The response that I received again felt like a generic, canned response and indicated that my "moving needs are beyond the scope of what our Dolly Helpers are able to complete". If moving a single item off a truck and into my house is "beyond the scope of what Dolly Helpers are able to complete", then what type of jobs are Dolly's helpers able to complete?!? I am now less than 48 hours from having this item arrive and I am scrambling to find a team to help unload it from the truck it will arrive on. We purchased 3 pieces of furniture from Crate & Barrel Outlet in Naperville, IL and had seen tent cards around the store advertising Dolly for moving items that you purchase if you don't wish to move them yourself. We thought that if Crate & Barrel were recommending Dolly with tent cards around the store we would place our trust in them to move our furniture. We had a sofa, office desk and credenza that we paid Dolly to have 2 helpers move to our home in Chicago. When the Dolly mover arrived he was alone and didn't have a second helper and asked if we could help to move the furniture....Strike 1! When the back of the moving van was opened the top of the credenza was scratched and the top end was collapsed. The desk was turned upside down and the computer keyboard had flown out and was laying to the right of the desk....Strike 2! The sofa was the only piece to "survive" The desk and credenza were a matching piece and we refused to accept delivery of both pieces due to the damage. When we contacted Crate & Barrel to investigate we received this response from them: "After our phone call earlier this evening, I went through with my team to try to get a better understanding of what exactly happened. Upon talking with the associates that were present at the time of loading, as well as checking with notes that were made at the time of loading, the pieces were in good condition upon arriving within our pickup door, however the loading by Dolly was done haphazardly. From both associates I had talked to, it looks as if Dolly had loaded the media piece on top of both the desk and sofa, and did not secure these items before leaving our dock door." Today we received a email after filing a claim with Dolly for $2164.00 for the 2 pieces plus tax and they offered us $300.00 max for damages and said the items can be fixed. You can't just order a replacement top for a walnut credenza from Crate & Barrel. When we paid for this delivery we expected our items to be cared for and delivered just as they were from the store without any damages. Unfortunately Dolly doesn't want to accept any responsibly for their carelessness....Strike 3! I would absolutely not use this service nor should Crate & Barrel have tent cards advertising Dolly delivery as it has been an absolute nightmare dealing with Dolly claims. C-Rated movers at best. I used their service twice. The second time the mover Zavier B. showed up over two hours late which I accommodated. Aside from trying to sell me on his side business of power washing outdoor patios. He was in a rush and ended up scratching my bed frame, chipped a mirror and scratched a newly upholstered leather chair. When I brought up the issue of the scratch on my chair he initially told me that I could easily wipe it off which I showed him you clearly couldn't. Immediately got defensive, took a picture then he proceeded to tell me the chair was in his way. I tried to discuss and resolve the issue with him until he abruptly left and did not finish the job as agreed. If you end using Dolly. Make sure you wrap your items and you watch everything very closely as they move your items. You have to micro manage. I've been waiting for over two weeks to speak to someone regarding my claim with no help whatsoever. A very risky service to move furniture and terrible customer service. Hire professionals if you want it done right. UPDATE: from two stars to one. Stay away from this company. Used them twice and will never use again. After my damage they gave me a partial refund of $150 on top of the $20 credit. I now regret not filing a larger claim for myother items he damaged that incurred. This partial refund is a bit insulting but I guess I have to take what I can get. In addition, what is just as important is to address and take care of the behavior and treatment by the Dolly. He was two hours late. He rushed the job which resulted in the damage of my chair and two other items. He also abruptly left without finishing the work. Lastly, he was trying to sell me on landscaping work!? Not sure why you allow this behavior. I understand they do not use professional movers, but you should have rules in place when a Dolly does this with a customer. I'm now out $50 plus and three items damaged in the end. I made so many mistakes in setting up the move, basically giving them only thirty minutes to move me into my apartment because I booked the freight elevator at the wrong time. They did not once make me feel stressed and still got the job done with huge smiles on their faces. If you want an easy move, make sure you book it with these guys. And dolly, take note, you are so incredibly lucky to have Edgar and Steve. ******Warning****** We requested two people to deliver our brand new dining table. Only one person showed up and caused severe damages across the table top while unloading. Dolly requested us to get 3 estimates for repair. I reached out to 7 different places and they all said the damage was too deep to restore. Dolly offered total $400 compensation for a $5000+ brand new dining table. It is impossible to speak to a person. They did not provide the service I requested and they would not take responsibility of the damages caused by the improper delivery. I would not recommend them at all. I set up a move from Dolly from 2-4pm. I paid $279 for the move. The process of setting up the move was online. It had me select the type of item being moved which I selected Refrigerator (Full Size). It then had me select the vehicle type which had three options: pickup truck, cargo van, and box truck. None of the options had dimensions of the vehicles. So I selected cargo van. It then had me choose the time for the move, I chose 2-4pm and was under the impression that the move would occur from 2-4pm. I received an email that my move was booked and would be from 2-4pm. I then receive a text that a cargo van isn't available for the time I requested and asking if a pickup truck would be ok. I replied no because I wanted to ensure the fridge would be as protected as possible due to their liability only covering $300 and the refrigerator is worth much more than that. I then sent an email about cancelling since they didn't have the time slot I had originally selected. After I sent the email, I received a text stating that someone would be coming at 3:30-4pm. I was confused because I thought there wasn't a vehicle available. After I got the text, I received a call regarding my cancellation email stating that I would have to pay 50% to cancel. I decided to move forward with the 3:30-4pm time slot to avoid the fee until I was told that I would also have to pay more for a different vehicle. I was told that I should have known that a refrigerator would not fit in a cargo van. I stated that nowhere on the site did it have the dimensions of the vehicles so I would have had no way of knowing that the refrigerator would not fit in the vehicle I selected. I should not have been able to select that vehicle if a full size refrigerator (which I selected prior to the vehicle selection) was the item to be moved. Overall the website was not clear and the customer service was not helpful. My options were to pay more for a box truck or pay a 50% cancellation fee. Their customer service was an absolute nightmare to deal with. I did eventually get my refund but the whole experience was terrible and the blame was constantly being put back on me for not knowing the dimensions of their vehicles even though it wasn't listed anywhere. I've used Dolly 3-4 times now and had very good movers. Today I had John S. + an assistant for my 1 bedroom move across town. They were right on time, polite (even after I had booked the wrong size move) and even called Dolly to help update my moving size details. I felt so bad and they were so kind. Moved fast, ensured me they could take everything I needed them to and carefully wrapped my TV and glass shelves. I loved these guys and I hope I get them again! Do yourself a favor and never use Dolly. Maybe it's fine if everything goes well but as soon as there's any problem, like workers showing up for only half their shift, everything goes out the window. And since they charge you immediately when the job is completed, your only option to get things corrected is to file a dispute with your credit card company. Save yourself the time and hassle and go with a more reliable company like Lugg. I've used Dolly twice now and both times have been impressively bad. The first time, I hired two movers to move some items from one house to another and then move furniture around at the end destination, which I was easily able to book using their app. After the movers dropped off the items at the end destination, they refused to help with the second half of what I paid for claiming "we don't do that". When I contacted Dolly, they told me that I shouldn't have booked them to do this since that's not something they offer. This was shocking to me since I only booked it because their app prompted me to do so! After arguing with them for a week about them paying for a crew to come out to complete the job I'd already paid for, they finally made it right. They first offered me several laughable resolutions like they'd pay for half of the cost to re-hire movers before they finally agreed. For some reason, I gave them a second chance months later and hired two workers to just move furniture around at a house for 2 hours. One worker showed up 50 minutes late, and so he assured us that we wouldn't be charged full price since he missed nearly half his shift. When I contacted Dolly about this, this hilarious customer service interaction started with them texting me about how to book a labor only Dolly, then they told me that they resolved this by not giving me refund but instead adjusting how much each worker was paid so they would be compensated fairly for the time they spent. I made it clear that what I was looking for was them to charge me for the job they actually completed and then they stopped responding to me all together. It seems that they hope customers will just go away after a bad experience so they won't lose money trying to do the right thing. read more

When the movers got here, they stated that everything wouldn't fit in the Cargo van even though I had less stuff then what I originally listed. Why would they accept the order if it couldn't be accommodated? On the Dolly app, it stated they would make multiple trips if everything doesn't fit as well. The mover stated he refused to make multiple trips and would only take what he could. I called Dolly's customer service to cancel the Dolly, which was a huge inconvenience saying that I had to be out my apartment ASAP. The representative Ronniel stated that I would receive a full refund for the trouble. 30 minutes later, I received a long text stating from her stating I would have to pay a 50% cancellation fee ($187) even though absolutely nothing was moved to the new destination. My experience with dolly is that they are extremely unreliable. I reserved my Dolly a week in advance. They didn't even start trying to find me helpers until the day before. From what I was told, this is pretty standard, so I tried not to worry. However, they never found me any helpers, save for a couple helpers that signed on for all of 45 minutes before cancelling on me. I ended up needing to hire separate movers the day of my move, which frankly I was lucky I could even find. Had they started trying to find me helpers when I booked the Dolly, l would have been able to come up with a backup plan, but they left me with next to no time to do that. Had I known Dolly would be this unreliable, I would have hired professional movers in the first place. Dolly put me in a terrible position, caused me an enormous amount of stress, and cost me about $200 in extra moving fees. When I tried to reach out for customer support the day before the move, I got zero response from them. I emailed, texted twice, called four times, and left 2 voicemails, and they didn't get back to me until after the start of my scheduled time window. When they finally did get back to me, they told me that I should try and edit my dolly, widening my time window and providing pictures to make it more appealing to helpers. Of course, when I tried to do this myself, the dolly app raised my price, and the only way to change the details without upping the price was to have you do it for me. It's ridiculous that their app raises the price on customers who are editing nothing more than the pictures, details, and time windows of their dolly. Their app is misleading and lacks transparency. NOWHERE on it does it say there's a chance they might not find you movers, and nowhere does it imply you need to make your move look "appealing" to helpers. They also say that two helpers and a pickup can do any move, even if it takes multiple trips, but I had a potential helper message me saying I had too much for a pickup and would need a box truck. Again, had their app been clearer on this, I could have selected this option in advance, but there was no indication that I needed to. They ought to have a backup plan to provide for customers when no helpers are volunteering for a move, but they don't, so I was left with no movers on the day I had to move. What are people supposed to do when they have exactly one day to move and their movers, for all intensive purposes, cancel the day of? Unless you're willing to accept the possibility that you might not get movers for the day you request them, and that they won't give you any warning that nobody is coming, don't book with dolly. read more

My first time using Dolly. I needed to move a bed and chair from a condo downtown to a house in the suburbs. I have a four hour start winner, and I was scheduled right at the beginning, with a half hour window. The communication was excellent, letting me know when they were 5 minutes out and then arrived. The two people were very friendly and quick. They had the bed taken apart and out within 15 minutes. I met them back at the house and everything was moved in quickly. Our apartment required us to use Dolly to move in and we were thoroughly disappointed. I am not a person who writes reviews frequently in fact made a Yelp just to write this. So the initial paperwork was pretty easy to fill in but after that it was a really bad process. We chose to pay extra for the biggest truck option they offered to be safe and they showed up with a normal size uhaul truck which right off the bat was confusing because we specifically requested the largest option. The movers were nice but then they started running out of room in the truck and treating the furniture very roughly. They didn't have moving blankets to wrap up delicate furniture and as a result of them squeezing things in and not wrapping we had a few things get badly scratched as well as our TV console broken entirely, which was made even more frustrating because the guy tried to leave without telling me that they broke it (I happened to see it and ask him about it). So because my TV console was completely broken, I put in a request online through the Dolly form including pictures and detailed explanation and got a response pretty quickly but then no follow up despite me asking multiple times. They have completely ghosted me now without reimbursing anything and it has been almost 4 months of trying to get a hold of them. Would not recommend if you have a choice of moving companies in Chicago, pay a little more for a real moving company, not guys who rented a small UHaul for the day and will break your stuff then not respond. read more

I've used Dolly three our four times. This most recent time I rented a uhaul and hired two dolly laborers by the hour. I actually got the man who helped me move the fridge in the first time. Now we were moving that same fridge and 9 desks out. David G and his assistant were the best!! They stacked the 9 desks like Tetris professionals. They used their own mats, dollys, and materials. I was super grateful. Instead of doing two trips, they offered their pick up truck in addition to move the fridge. Suuuuper grateful. I booked two hours and they worked so hard and efficiently we were able to load and unload in an hour and a half. I am the most anxious driver and then throw in the fact that I'm in a ten foot uhaul in a 11foot alley.... ahhh! David's assistant offered to drive the uhaul for me. I was ecstatic and relieved.
