Imagine having to send food back not once, but twice. It was almost three, but I finished my food out of spite! Respectfully, the kitchen needs to get it together. I ordered a 2-2-2 combo with eggs over medium, and a "smaller than a kiddie size" amount of home fries. The two bacon strips were absolutely fine. Crisp, not overdone, okay size, no notes or complaints. The eggs were fine for over easy, but a liquid yolk does not an over-medium egg make. This idea of being underdone applied fully to their batter-based products. The first batch of pancakes was so gooey in the middle, I could taste the raw flour still. I caught my server, and sent them back for being "hilariously underdone." When the new batch arrived, the interior was no longer raw, but still more gooey than a pancake has any business being. When asked how the second batch was, I responded with "Are they supposed to be gooey inside?" The response comes: "That's just how we make them." Detecting I was still not very happy, the server, to her credit, offered to switch them to something else, like a waffle, which i agreed to. Out comes the waffle... guess what? The inside was also more gooey than it is supposed to be. Perhaps the only thing that allowed me to finish was that the exterior was crisp enough to eat without the soggy-bread consistency of the pancakes. "That's just how we make them" is not an excuse. Somewhere out there is a person who likes "medium-rare" chicken. They are entitled to their preference, and the health disasters that come with it. This person also has no business cooking this way for anyone else. An extreme example, but I trust I've made my point. Then we arrive at the home-fries. As a standalone item, this was enjoyable. They were deep fried, and seasoned such that they required neither salt nor pepper. One problem: the portion size was their standard, rather large size. Look, if a spot has only a standard size, then fair enough, but inform the customer requesting a baby-size portion accordingly While the service was pleasant being welcoming and friendly, there's a lot more to it than that. The potatoes are one example. Another is the bottomless coffee mug was not refilled in due course, and when it was, a new cup of black coffee was brought, completely ignoring the creamer container now filled with used napkins, neither removing it nor providing a new one. Also, when food is sent back, unless we're talking about a deep dish pizza with its prep time, one would hope it would be prioritized and sent out fast, though based on how long it took to get a second batch of underdone pancakes, this was not the case. Finally, we arrive at the prices. Due to the abject failures of the meal, I ended up being charged only for a (too-big) order of home fries, a single waffle, and a coffee. All of that, after tax, came to $22.75. This isn't expensive, it's not even overpriced, it's downright highway robbery. Final verdict: one word: No! I *did* enjoy the coffee, and found it strong and tasty . Otherwise, Dollop Diner not only hit rock bottom, but they started digging. Maybe the heat from the planet's core would help them not serve raw pancakes? read more

I typically love the Dollop properties , but just had a terrible experience there, sadly. I had ordered a surprise bag through the app Too Good to Go. It's a great business model, if you're not familiar with it. They partner with local restaurants and give you deep discounts on food that would typically go to waste. I had paid for the bag, trekked over to the restaurant, which for me is about a half an hour walk -- and was promptly told that they didn't have anything for me. They even went to get the manager, who just told me sorry, yeah, we don't have anything, and you'll have to try to get a refund through the app. Here's some advice: Get creative. If someone is there to pick up something they have already paid for that's supposed to be a $15 value, just throw together something you've got extra of. Is it really worth the bad word of mouth? Hopefully they've learned their lesson. Go there for a decent meal in a cute diner setting. Skip them for Too Good to Go. More like: Too Bad, Now Go. read more

I stopped in for a cup of Joe and a pastry. I decided on a jelly donut. It had to be the biggest donut I ever had with a generous amount of jelly filling, and the size was as if you stacked two donuts together, because that's how big it was. I'll go back another time to check the breakfast menu. I came in at a good time because there was only one stool left at the counter. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. My boyfriend and I decided to come here for breakfast this morning after we had our coffee. The diner wasn't busy and we sat in our favorite spot. We both ordered OJ. I had the granola, fruits, and Greek Yogurt. The boyfriend had the chicken biscuit sandwich. Both were good. We like this location, the server and barista were nice and friendly. The baristas made us feel like we were an inconvenience, just for asking basic questions. They were out of multiple items, the coffee was so expensive and the ice was already melted in my iced latte. We did carry out and before I ordered I looked at photos online. Pancakes looked good - big, nicely browned and fluffy. What I got were thin, chewy pancakes. Husband seems to enjoy his sandwich, but he doesn't like a runny yolk and asked for it over hard and as you can see it was clearly runny. read more

Amazing avocado toast. Best I've ever tasted. Delicious honey cinnamon latte with just the right balance of flavors. (Although they do the same thing Starbucks does of charging extra for vegan milks, which creates an economic incentive to support the dairy industry.) Also tried a bit of the overnight oatmeal, which tasted fresh if a little bland. These are not greasy-spoon diner prices, but when you compare Dollop to other brunch options of similar quality, it's actually relatively cheap. I'm one of those weird people that do not eat breakfast, but this day I had a hankering for it, so I went to Dollop Diner. It's a cute diner in Andersonville and I sat at the table because I love to people watch. I was promptly greeted and seated. I looked over their menu and decided to get the 2×2x2 breakfast which includes two eggs, two strips of bacon or sausage and two pancakes. Once I received my order, I couldn't wait to chow down and I did. I even ordered a side of sausage since I couldn't decide between the bacon and the sausage, both was filled with porky goodness!! The pancakes were light and fluffy and my eggs were done perfectly. I always judge diners by their bacon and never seeing the bottom of my coffee cup or pulp if it's orange juice. Had brunch here over the weekend on a whim. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and asked the waitress how many biscuits it came with. She said it only came with one, but I could add one extra for $3.99. I thought $11.99 was a little steep for one biscuit, but said okay sure I'll add a second. Upon receiving my food there was no less than 4 biscuits on there, so I'm not really sure what happened there. If she had said it came with two, I wouldn't have up-charged lol. Otherwise, the food was okay. Wasn't crazy about my biscuits and gravy but I sampled one of the fries from my friends' plate and those were very good. This place sells itself short. My friend and I had our hearts set on eating at a particular restaurant in Andersonville. Unfortunately, they were closed, and then I remembered I always wanted to try Dollop, which was conveniently down the street. I always thought that this diner was adorable and had a certain charm. It rained most of the morning, which affected the interior, specifically one table near a window which I found out because the waiter warned us and anyone who considered sitting on the spot. Why they didn't just clean the puddle or move the table is beyond me. Ok, let's talk food. I've been seeing images of the chicken and waffles and Immediately got intrigued, so I got that with a side of potatoes and two eggs. My companion got the Umami Bomb Burger which looked and, according to her tasted good. My meal was Delicious. The chicken and potatoes were seasoned very well. I don't know who the chief was, but they know their doing. Overall the experience was perfect for a chilled back launch over great conversation. The only thing that didn't give this place a higher score was the service was a bit lacking. I didn't get any refill on my coffee or water. The waiter wasn't rude or anything, just not as attentive. What a cute spot! We stopped in around 12:30 on a Sunday and it was a 25 minute wait, and luckily there are plenty of cute shops around to visit in the meantime. We were seated and the server was really helpful. We got the chilaquiles and the biscuits and gravy to split - both were DELICIOUS. Dollop Diner was a perfect quick stop for a late lunch. My two friends and I arrived at around 2 p.m. and were seated in the back room immediately. Between the three of us, we ordered two orders of chicken tenders, three orders of fries, a filet-o-tofu, a Diet Coke, Coke and fresh lemonade. The total came out to around $40. The chicken tenders were very tasty, but the fries, which were advertised as French fries, were actually small potato wedges. They were good, just not what we were expecting. Came here for the first time because i wanted to treat myself to a cutesy little breakfast near me on my payday. Ambiance is cute, it was just me so I sat at the bar, got here 15 minutes after it opened so there were a few people but I was able to sit immediately which was nice. Servers are nice, nothing over the top and they let me be for the most part so I like that. I came here primarily because on the website, it said that the prices on the PDF version of the menu were the most updated, and I was happy that I could get bacon eggs and pancakes for 9.49 in chicago. When I got here I was disappointed that the prices were higher than I expected :( the meal I got was 14.99 compared to the $9.49 I saw on the website. to be fair I am a college student so i'm most likely not the target demographic for this place but I wish they had updated prices on their website that reflected the up charges. I got a latte with hazelnut and they didn't tell me that flavor pumps are an up charge which also sucks. The portion of the 2x2x2 is smaller than I thought and lowkey it looked like they gave me 1 egg instead of 2. I will say despite all of this the quality is lovely, the food tasted great and the latte was beautifully presented, I have no qualms about the flavor or anything to do with food quality. I just know that at least for me, if I go out to eat, I have to budget it, just the state of the economy as of right now. So yes my one take away is please update the prices on your website! I've been wanting to come here ever since I moved out of Chicago in 2017 and I think I hyped it up too much for myself. I used to work at dollop coffee back in 2017 and they were just about getting ready to open up the diner around that time.. so for years, I was dreaming of how amazing this food will taste. I loved the potatoes. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Very filling. My girls all it the Mac n cheese and my daughter said it was the best she's had! However, overall, with the ambiance, service, food, and seating.. I have to rate it a 3/5. It wasn't hands down, but also wasn't terrible. Just mediocre. I have to say dollop delivers with their amazing double shot coffee and food options for both breakfast and all day menu you'll be certainly be able to get something to tantalise your taste Budz just as I did even if I did have to fly for 24 Hours! I ordered delivery this morning. The food came in record time which is suspect to begin with because 6 minutes passed since my order was recognized to be prepared until it being picked up. My order was delivered about 20 minutes after I put it in and I do not live super close. With that being said, the order of (3 pieces) bacon is really good. It is too bad it arrived cold. I am not sure if they sent out pre-prepared food or not, or the driver didn't have a hot bag. There is no way it should be cold if it was delivered about 10 minutes after it was picked up after 6 minutes of preparation. Next, the 2x2x2 "special." That also arrived cold. Again, the (2 pieces) bacon is pretty good. The scrambled eggs (two eggs?) weren't remarkable. They also seemed to be one jumbo egg or two small eggs, which for the price of the dish is not a great value ($11.49.) The (2) pancakes were kind of sweet, but not bad and of good size. Last, the side of wheat toast w/ house maple butter and strawberry preserves. Ok, the description says 2 pieces of wheat toast. What it really is, is one slice cut in half! The maple butter and strawberry preserves are very good but, if you say 2 pieces send two slices, not 1 slice cut in half! I ate the entire meal and yet am still hungry. Their portion sizes suck particularly on eggs, side of bacon, and toast. Oh well, you live and you learn. I won't be trying again. The food while ok to decent seems to be the work of very cheap ownership. I can get a meal of the same cost as this at another breakfast spot while not be able to finish it and have leftovers. It's a cute little spot on a corner in Andersonville. The service was quick and friendly. The menu has a bunch of options and is vegetarian friendly even! I saw a baby as well, so it's also kid friendly. It's a nice breakfast spot but nothing special in terms of most of the items. Best things: donut ( old fashioned and so yummy- five stars for that!) and the whipped butter on the toast. I didn't love the flavor of the porcini gravy. It was a bit strong but the biscuit underneath was good. The eggs and toast were typical eggs and toast. Nothing special. The home fries also were pretty standard to me compared to what the reviews say. Overall it's decently priced so you really get what you pay for here. I rarely ever write bad reviews, but today really was the worst of the worst service we have ever had. We have frequented Dollop Diner in the past and always had an enjoyable experience. The food is great. Today, we had a waitress whose behavior was truly incomprehensible. Perhaps she was having a bad day but I cannot understand how she could be customer facing and treat people this way. After we were seated, she dropped menus on our table and left. Once we ordered our food and drinks she came by with my coffee and said my daughters latte would take longer since the barista was backed up. She did not stop at our table again-and it took over 40 minutes for our food to come. Other waitstaff that were around seemed responsive to customers but this woman was just rude. We had to ask another waitress if she knew when our food would arrive. Once the food finally came, she dropped my husband's meal (which was cold) and my daughter's meal off and told me she would be back with mine. But instead of going to get it immediately (knowing we'd been waiting so long), she stopped and first took other customers orders. When she finally returned with mine, there was absolutely no acknowledgement that we'd waited so long. We never interacted with her (how is your food, can I get you anything else, sorry for delay) throughout our entire time there. She then dropped the check off-again without saying a word. We walked up to the counter to pay and quickly left. Needless to say, we will not be frequenting Dollop again. This woman truly should not be working in the service industry. With other options in Andersonville, this is the last time we will come here. read more

The one thing I miss about living in the south are our diners. $13 for A waffle. Just one very basic average nothing special waffle. Chicago has some amazing restaurants worth the price but many diners like this one is over rated and over priced. read more
