This Giant Tiger is an Express Store, which means it's much smaller than regular Giant Tigers. It feels a bit small and dingy, and is essentially a discount convenience store. The regular Giant Tigers are discount stores, similar to the now defunct Bargain Harold's in Toronto, or Bi-Way (which shut down, but I heard they will re-open a slightly re-branded store on Orfus Rd in Toronto (it will be called "Bi-Way $10 Store")). So the quality of the clothing there is not great, and the toys are usually not brand names, but they have inexpensive grocery items. Giant Tiger is a Canadian company and it originated here in Ottawa (the very first location was in the Byward Market, and it's still there). I've only been in this location a few times. It's not my favourite, but is convenient for the local residents.

It's still a good deal and I like that everything is one price unlike at Dollarama where things are like up to $5 (and things aren't always clearly marked so sometimes there are surprises when you reach the checkout, but not here at Dollar Tree!) Anyway, this location is at the Nepean Crossroads Plaza. There's also a Dollarama in the plaza, as well as a Canadian Tire, and other businesses. There are also not one, but 2 chip wagons in the plaza parking lot. This Dollar Tree location is pretty good. It's fairly large and has a good selection of products. Like other Dollar Trees inventory varies, sometimes they have lots of something and sometimes you can't find that item at all. I think that's the fun of poking around. On my most recent visit, I spotted some American Apparel T-Shirts in a variety of sizes and colours. I also saw some probiotics drinks (teas and sparkling waters). Lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot.

It's very big and selection is less picked over than other more high-traffic areas. I've found some great board games here, and not just rip-offs of brand name games, but actual brand name games. I spotted the Hasbro game Love is Dead selling for only $5 where it's at least $20 at other stores. They also have a good selection of greeting cards for all common occasions. Like other Dollaramas they have housewares, food, toiletries and all other basic essentials. No shortage of free parking spots in the plaza parking lot. Review #192 (2025)

Parking is ok. It can get very busy any time of day, any day and shares the lot with other great stores. The lines can be lonnnnng and tedious. I wish they had more check outs open. There are bigger Winners outlets than this one, but this one served our purposes for this visit. I was also pleased that Winners would allow refunds on items purchased in a different city. There's something about how the clothes are hung and displayed on movable metal racks that reminds me of Value Village and other such stores. It's not as cramped here thought.

I was VERY happy when Dollarama opened so close to me. It's quite large for a downtown store, with…read morea generally good selection. I frequent it at least twice a month, often more. Though some of Dollarama's prices have become more expensive than grocery stores, you can still find good deals on essentials. I can only give it (barely) three stars, though, because while most of the staff is friendly and helpful, there's one notable exception: the security guard. EVERY time I go in, he follows me around - upstairs and down - peeking into my cart or basket, standing with arms folded watching my every move from the end of the aisle. Every. Single. Time. It's downright creepy, not to mention highly offensive. I don't know why he's targeted me as being a potential thief. I've NEVER stolen anything from there (nor from anywhere else), nor have I ever seen him shadow any other shopper when I've been in. I'm so tired of it, I'm thinking of trekking to the Dollarama on Elgin like I used to have to do before this one opened. Smaller and less of a selection, but no creepy security guard stalking me.

No. It's an outdoor plaza presumably designed by those people who make those "can the mouse reach the cheese" games where there's a mouse on the left side, a bunch of squiggly lines in the middle, and a piece of cheese on the right side. You know what I'm talking about! There are parts of the parking lot where unexpectedly you hit a dead end. So if you entered this dead end looking for a parking spot and there are no empty spots you have to back out. Now it's relatively narrow, so IF none of the cars on either side are parked jutting out of their spots too much, AND you have a really tiny car, you MIGHT be able to 3-point turn your way out. Otherwise, you're backing out, and if 2 other cars followed you into this dead end, well guess what? You're going to have to communicate that you're not a bozo for backing up, but you have to back up because it's a dead end and there are no parking spots, and then you're all going to have to back out. I hardly ever go to any of the stores here because they don't really have anything special. They are all stores that are pretty much everywhere: Walmart, Chapters, LCBO, etc. The restaurants are mostly big chains like Boston Pizza, Montana's, Moxie's etc.. If you live in Kanata, I guess this is your local mall and so you go here. If you don't live in Kanata, I don't think there is a reason to make a special trip out here. If you happen to be in Kanata anyway (like visiting relatives, going to a work meeting, etc.) then I feel the only things worth checking out are restaurants here that don't have a branch anywhere else (e.g. Tomaso's Pizza, RARE Steak House, Aperitivo, etc.).

While waiting for the traffic lights to change, I liked seeing a store directory. I came here without any knowledge of the stores here. I liked coming here to figure it out. The Trainyards is like Heartland Town Centre in Mississauga. It is a bunch of stores that cover a lot of land. Think of it as a neighbourhood of stores. You have to strategically figure out where to park and walk to the stores that are around you. During my visit, I parked a grand total of three times. I stopped by Michaels and got some good items that were on sale. I was a happy shopper! I then parked in front of the Gap outlet. I also visited Old Navy and Sail that were on either side of the store. I then decided to drive and check out what other stores were there. I spotted Kettleman's Bagel Co. and parked to have lunch. The selection of stores is cool. If you are more of a mall shopper, this setup may not be for you. If you do like box stores, you'd like it here. My only problem I had was dealing with a woman in a minivan who was waiting for me to leave my spot to pull through. She actually honked at me. I didn't appreciate it and gave her a signal to say that I was staying. I was pulling up my GPS and I was under no obligation to move out of a parking spot to convenience an impatient idiot. (289)
