Back in November 2015, I stayed in ByWard Market and walked around. I stumbled across this gem. The store sells stationery, greeting cards, fountain pens, and more. I ended up getting two greeting cards. I got one with a polar bear for a friend who absolutely loved it. I got another one that showed the Rideau Canal during the winter for another friend. I love unique cards and she was thrilled that I thought about her during my trip. I have always loved stationery and pens. This store has a fantastic selection of fountain pens. I remember longingly looking at all the Lamy pens and ink refills. There are plenty of notebooks to choose from if you like scribbling notes here and there. It's nice adopting the old-school method of doing things, especially when you cell phone, laptop, or tablet runs out of battery power. I'm so glad that this store continues to exist and thrive. Had I not purchase a bunch of hand-crafted soap last month, I would have bought some here. It's funny that I held back getting a thing because I had just purchased similar items recently. The drinkware was another good example. I got one with a glass straw a few months ago. I didn't need another one, but the watermelon and strawberry ones appealed to me. Let's start with the more standard stuff: High quality hoodies, sweaters, t-shirts, hats, mugs, bags, keychains, cards, and lanyards (to name a few) ... most bright red, emblazoned with maple leaves and other famous Canadian locales placed front-and-center. Then there's plenty in French and things that may specifically appeal to the French and French-Canadian. My personal fave is the whole section (with shirts, books, etc.) dedicated to the famed Astérix et Obélix cartoon -- a staple in French humor since the late 1950s. And, of course, the thing that sets this gift shop apart is all the books, bags, t-shirts, posters, jewelry, blankets, scarves, shawls, plush toys, keychains, magnets, boxes, ties, totes, carvings, ornaments, brooches, journals, etc., specifically related to the Museum's exhibits past and present. I can't stress it enough how exceptional a place this is if you want a book on all facets of Canadian history ... both publications by the Museum itself and those seminal works on Canadian history and life. As well, no store I've been to in Canada compares when it comes to carvings, totems, and other items related to the Inuit and First Nations. I have visited the store a few times now and love that they seem to be adding more and more locally made products every day. It is pretty damn easy to find what you want because of how well organized this place is. Obviously, given the name of the store, cigarettes (and I believe cigars) are available. Just like everyone else says, you can also purchase fun-yet-random items such as cards, small games, mugs, notebooks, key chains... Oh and this is the only place (so far) that I have found that sells Newfoundland chocolates. Check it out!
