As a fibre addict (paper, wool, fabric) this store goes a long way to giving me my fix. With a lovely selection of gift cards, journals, stickers, ribbon and a small but lovely selection of scrapbooking and card making paper/supplies, it's lovely to browse in and almost impossible to walk away from without a purchase. In addition to my 'drug' of choice, they have some fun small gift and decor options. Everything is beautifully displayed. Staff are friendly. This surprise me - but dogs are welcome. Very interesting store, like a wonderland for adult! They have all sorts of paper stuff, and all so beautiful! From thank you card, notebook, envelop, warp paper, to napkin. You name it, they have it. They put together the most beautiful paper stuff together in one store. Many products are too precious to be used. The staff were curt and rude. Insisted I follow rules about wearing a mask above my nose, which made my glasses fog up and me unable to see. When I explained, I was told by the rude man at the cash "Take your glasses off then". Which made me unable to see. Am I supposed to pay hundreds of dollars for contacts just for the privilege of shopping there? NO ONE was following the 2M apart rule, yet the little Stalin at the front of the store insisted on controlling every minute aspect of my behaviour. It's psychotic and disturbing. No empathy at all for any customer who might have vision impairment due to masks. Didn't even bother trying to shop as I couldn't see anything, it was pointless. I chose to shop there to support small business in the city. Now, I'll go to big box stores. If people like these are the ones running small businesses, then let them all die. They ruined my plans for Christmas. I will never go back and I can only hope their 2021 is one thousand times worse than their 2020. read more

The Papery has been around for as long as I can remember. It's such a cute little store and has branched out into the perfect amount of niche market items to keep it going. but still stands true to it's name with cards, some scrapbooking items, and fun wrapping paper. It has expanded over the years and really taken on it's own style. The window displays are such fun, and the new niche items include themes to suit the sock trend, unicorns, and and all the cutesy things used to fill the tiny empty spaces in your home. Personally, I just picked up a piggy bank with a photo frame in order to save for the adventure/item in the photo - it's already working! I love the Glebe, and the papery is a cornerstone! read more

I absolutely love this store! It's so cute and lovely! Though it might seem overwhelming walking in here at first, you must take your time perusing. There are some really sweet things in here. They have an extensive collection of paper and envelopes, as well as unique printed greeting cards. This is my go-to spot for birthday, get well soon and congratulations type cards. They are really lovely and special and are very different from the typical Hallmark card. In addition to cards and paper stock, they sell various other paper goods, such as stickers, napkins, origami paper, recipe books, phone books, note pads, etc. It's quite a unique and quirky little spot. Staff here are fantastic and always helpful. They even allow dogs in this store! Prices are fairly reasonable. Some things may appear a bit pricey, but they are likely worth it. Five FULL stars. If you need a gift wrapped, or want to find great wrapping paper for holidays and events, go here first. Also, the selection of greeting cards was unsurprisingly a cut above. There's a guy who works there that is fantastic. Super helpful & knowledgeable and was able to wrap something like a PRO for me. Also, an amateur event planner - she would have gone pro but had a career in the business world - did all of her business with them, and for good reason. I never thought I could get this excited about paper. I just spent $15 on a book of various post-it notes and I couldn't be happier. The papery can make any cubicle a happier place to be, and it's a great spot for cards and small gifts. Now that Halloween's over they've pulled out their Christmas supplies and oh goodness they're beautiful. Tonnes of cute decorations, cards, paper, and the fanciest of fancy pens, markers etc. I can't afford to buy everyone's Christmas card from The Papery but those few people appreciate a good card will REALLY appreciate these cards. This store is wonderful for gifts, and is also a great spot for a nice day planner or calendar. Sometimes pretty little post-its and pens really do make the difference. Their selection constantly changes and whatever I buy, I know the distinctive originality of The Papery's cards will make at least a small impression on the person who will eventually receive it. I love this store, and it is a great place to find unique items at Christmas time. Great quality items too, for the people in your life who will appreciate it. Beautifully displays for all seasons, this is worth a browse but you will likely fall in love with something, be it a great Christmas ornament, a card or stationary set, or some of their adorable wrapping papers or stickers. The Papery is like a candy store for creative types! For lack of a better description, the place is just pretty. They have scrapbooking paper and stickers, cards, stationary, wrapping paper, pens and markers, strings and ribbons, decorations, gifts, collectible items.. the list goes on. For a smaller space, it's very impressive how much inventory they actually have. As a scrapbooker myself, this place is kind of my dream! I dropped in during the fall to take a look around and they had all of the Halloween and even some Christmas items out. All of their items have a more sophisticated feel to them, unlike the cheap cards and paper you'll find at more generic stores. We had The Papery do our wedding invitations. Service was absolutely top-notch, with incredible attention to detail. We wanted to design the invitations ourselves and have the store print and mount them on a cardstock panel. Lauren bent over backwards to accommodate our needs and was a great in helping us pick out materials to tie together the design that we had in mind. Their prices were also very reasonable for the high-quality product we got. They have a great selection of papers, envelopes, and other materials in-stock and were happy to custom order some extra materials that they didn't have on-hand for us. Staff members are far from helpful- they do not offer assistance, and do not go out of their way to accommodate customers, as one might expect in a community such as the Glebe. Well, the name doesn't lie. The Papery is all things paper - notebooks, greeting cards, journals, day planners, wrapping paper, gift bags... they even had a selection of really cool, vintage style post cards featuring Marvel comic and sci-fi pulp book art. Apart from paper products, they also had paper-related stuff like cool pens, fridge magnets, frames, etc. They even had these neat cell phone holders that you rest your cell phone on while it is charging in a wall outlet. The prices were a little higher than your typical Hallmark-esque store, but they really had some wonderfully hip and funky products that would be hard to find elsewhere. What really blew me away about the Papery was the staff. They seemed to know their customers on a first-name basis, which speaks to the customer loyalty and the staff's thoughtfulness. The parking is street parking with a meter, but since The Papery is on the corner of Bank and 5th, you could just try around the corner on Monk St. or Howick St. to the east. read more

If you need wedding invitations without the fuss of using a graphic designer or trying to print them at home on your own, I highly recommend The Papery. We ordered our wedding invitations through the store, and they turned out beautifully! They have 3 huge books that have samples of invitations, ranging from simple to elaborate, and in various themes. We chose our favourite design, font, and ink colour, and of course provided them with what was to be written on the invitation, envelopes and response cards. The staff at the Papery relayed this information to the printer in Stratford, who provided a proof via email (the proof is $15 extra). Once the proofs were approved, our invitations were back within a week. We worked with Melissa, who is very sweet, patient and helpful. The overall cost of our invitations, including envelopes, taxes, shipping etc worked out to be about $2.60 per invitation. Be warned that there are a couple of rules about when you can come in for the initial order. I recommend calling them first to make sure you can come in when you want (i.e. we weren't allowed to place our order on the Saturday of the Family Day long weekend). Another reason I only gave 4 stars is that some of their other products (like place cards) were quite expensive. read more
