So then I came back, I was right about the dimensions all along, but now they didn't have the size I needed anymore. An employee asked to help, i said "NO". Also, they don't give discounts to people who work at the mall, which some places do, so at this point I gave up. I won't come here in the future. My wife was looking for a ring mandrel (with a groove) and after searching the Internet and calling a few places, I discovered that this guy's place "Dowd's" is the only jewelry supplier in Ottawa that has that sort of thing for sale. I called the guy up and asked if he had any on hand, noting the price on his website to be $39.95, which he confirmed. He said he would have to order one in and that it would be in by Thursday. I noted that their hours on Saturday were from 11:00 - 15:00 and decided to pick it up on the weekend. We arrived at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and were disappointed to find the shop closed without any indication of why they weren't open posted anywhere. The next time we called in advance to confirm that the mandrel had arrived and that he would be open on the weekend. A few weeks had passed (March Break) since my original conversation with the guy and I'd forgotten the price he'd quoted so when he presented the mandrel at $47.95 (before taxes), I paid and brought it home to my wife. She reminded me of the advertised price and she called the guy back looking for an explanation. He was decidedly unapologetic and said "Well, if you don't want it, you can return it and I'll give you your money back". She told him that what she wanted was for him honour the price he quoted us and the price that remains posted on his website. He made it very clear that he had no intention of doing so and when I took the phone from my wife and suggested I would write a negative review about our experience on this website, he indicated that he couldn't be less concerned. This just goes to show that all monopolies are bad for the consumer.

I love a good greeting card store. This one has the best selection of cards for any occasion. I got one for my friend saying, "Happy birthday to my favourite vegan friend." I can't wait to give this card to her next year. Yep, I plan that far in advance. The punny cards were hysterical. We were laughing so hard in a fairly quiet store. Luckily, we weren't kicked out. Excellent cards! I also liked the stationery and writing instruments. This store carries Lamy fountain pens, which I hadn't seen in ages. I also loved these huge puffy stickers. My laptop has no room for large stickers these days. If it did, I would have bought one in a heartbeat. I also liked the pencil sharpener that had three different pencil sizes to use. Fancy! I got my card with an envelope in a small paper bag. The woman at this store was friendly and cared about the quality of her items that customers were about to possess. It was a wonderful find.
