They have a surprisingly good selection of snacks from the UK, especially chocolates. And they are much cheaper than specialty candy stores. They carry Tunnock's brand items from the UK: Snowballs, Tea Cakes and Caramel Wafer Biscuits! I love these. They also have a good selection of Asian products. They have Turtle Chips from Korea! They also carry my favourite ramen brand from Korea: Buldak! Oh yeah, bring on that fire chicken! Haha. They have the largest selection of Buldak flavours I've seen outside of an Asian grocery store. Their regular mainstream items are reasonably priced and they often have sale items in-stock. Their pharmacists are competent and diligent. My parents get their prescriptions filled at this Walmart, and without going into the specifics, I can say that my interactions with the pharmacy staff in straightening out issues related to prescribers not being as clear as they could have been, have been positive. I have been impressed with their professionalism and committment to getting things right. Not all Walmarts are equal. This one is better than the rest. Lots of free parking, obviously.

The entrance was big, spacious and clean. Easy to navigate around the store. I came here to buy Christmas lights. Found them quickly, and also found a lot of other Christmas goodies that were half the price compared to their competitors. Self checkout was seamless. No complaints.

They also have collectibles like Funko Pops and other figurines. Their toy selection is pretty good for a dollar store (mind you they are more than a dollar, lol, but still a deal at about $5 or so). Their food selection is also good. They have lots of brand name products. Per unit, you can often get cheaper prices at grocery stores when they have sales, but if you have to buy at regular price, Dollarama is comparable and often have smaller sizes which might be more desirable for single people. The selection here is great. Staff ring you through quickly and the place isn't too messy. This location is in a plaza with a Natural Food Pantry, Canada Computers, Mission Thrift Store (formerly called Bibles for Missions), and a gym called Regymen. There's also a Domino's Pizza, Corner Bar and Grill and Second Cup Cafe. Lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot.

Though some of Dollarama's prices have become more expensive than grocery stores, you can still find good deals on essentials. I can only give it (barely) three stars, though, because while most of the staff is friendly and helpful, there's one notable exception: the security guard. EVERY time I go in, he follows me around - upstairs and down - peeking into my cart or basket, standing with arms folded watching my every move from the end of the aisle. Every. Single. Time. It's downright creepy, not to mention highly offensive. I don't know why he's targeted me as being a potential thief. I've NEVER stolen anything from there (nor from anywhere else), nor have I ever seen him shadow any other shopper when I've been in. I'm so tired of it, I'm thinking of trekking to the Dollarama on Elgin like I used to have to do before this one opened. Smaller and less of a selection, but no creepy security guard stalking me.

The Long Version: So I find it a bit odd that there are 2 RONA locations within a kilometre and a half of each other. This one is at 340 West Hunt Club and the other one is at 585 West Hunt Club. I then remembered that this one used to be a Lowe's before Lowe's pulled out of Canada. It's actually a RONA+ while the other one is just a plain RONA. What's the difference, you ask? Technically the RONA+ is supposed to focus more on style with more offerings while the regular RONAs are more the traditional hardware and home improvement stores. Do I notice the difference? Not really, lol. In fact, this RONA has LESS selection when it comes to indoor plants, than the other location. And I would consider indoor plants more to do with style and decor, but whatever, I don't run these places. Haha. The thing that I've noticed about all RONA locations though, and this one is no different, is that their washrooms are very clean. And the set up is hygienic. There are no doors to the washrooms (don't worry, there are doors to the stalls, lol). So after you've freshly washed your hands you don't contaminate them by touching dirty door handles. I appreciate design features like this. Anyway, this location is good for home improvement and hardware. I'm not really convinced that it has more selection for home furnishings than other locations. The plants in their garden centre aren't in the best shape :( The Long Version: I don't know the full history, but once upon a time, Lowe's, RONA and Home Depot were the big box home improvement stores in Canada. Then Lowe's bought RONA and converted some RONA stores into Lowe's stores, then Lowe's decided to pull out of Canada and sold its Canadian stores to a firm called Sycamore Partners so some Lowe's locations in Canada became RONA+ stores and the rest closed down. So there are still RONA stores around, but the ownership is different from the RONA of days past. This RONA location used to be a Lowe's. Home improvement/hardware stores are not my favourite types of stores, but my husband and father love these types of stores. However, I recently got into houseplants, so whenever my husband and I go to these types of stores to look for home improvement stuff, I go to the garden centre to check out the plants. When I went in March, the plant selection was small and they had some small succulents that were in really rough shape. All etiolated and some leaves were yellowing/browning really bad :( They had some larger succulents in better shape and some cacti that seemed to be doing well. Selection was small in general and in general the plants were in poorer shape here than at other big box stores. The rest of the store looked fine and my husband found what he was looking for. I walked by it and learned something new. I still need to actually go in it. This Giant Tiger is the closest one to Zellers, where I was on a late Saturday afternoon. I dropped by after having dinner in the vicinity. This Giant Tiger is in a plaza that was fairly busy on a Saturday evening. I parked and walked into the store. Naturally, I looked at the food section. My favourite bagged cereal by Malt-O-Meal typically goes for $3 a bag. This store had a sale happening. I got two bags for $5. Yes! I enjoyed browsing the desserts and peanut butter varieties. In the book section, I found Dark Angel by V.C. Andrews. I was into her books when I was in grade 7. It was cool to relive a bit of my past when I saw this book going for $5. This store is exactly what I had expected from Giant Tiger. There are plenty of items at good prices and it's Canadian. Oh nostalgia goes a long way, sigh. Make no mistake, it is a bargain store. They do sell clothes there, but I feel that they look and feel like bargain store clothes. They have cheap home furnishings, like curtain rods, curtains and rugs, which are great to furnish a student apartment. Their food and household items are also well-priced and even better when they are on sale. I only ever buy food at Giant Tiger, but I love poking around for old times' sake. This location is smaller than most and their food section is really tiny, but it's the most convenient location for me. There's free parking in the strip mall.
