I decided to pop in on a whim and see what they had. I noticed a sign on the door that said they had a "work dog" inside, which immediately made me joyous. I was even happier that she (I think her name was Jazz!), was the sweetest, most calm dog ever and hung out with me while I shopped. The staff member (who I believe was the owner), was great at keeping her close by, but I made it clear that I welcomed her furry little presence! I was asked right away if I needed help and was led to their fantastic selection of cuff links. Thy source them out of the UK and I believe Texas. Their selection is plentiful - classy and quirky and tailored to all personality types. They have sports one and occupations and I ended up selecting an awesome pair of silver Lego pieces. I mentioned my boyfriend was an MMA trainer and he offered to order in some boxing glove cuff links for us - wonderful customer service! I also picked up a gorgeous Nautica tie (at half off!) and some super cool dinosaur socks for the birthday boy. They have an amazing selection of men's grooming products including beard grooming supplies, European razors and a whole wall of other goodies. They also carry a ton of fun and colourful socks and an insane amount of men's underwear (the second staff member is your go to guy for men's underwear. He admits to owning hundreds of pairs!). They also sell shirts and other accessories. If you're on the hunt for a guy who loves quality and individual gifts, stop by. The products were great but the staff were even better. Can't wait for an excuse to return!

In my opinion their clothes are more fashionable than places like Reitmans, Cleo and Ricki's, with quality being about the same or maybe a little bit higher. I really love their dresses. The cuts are usually very flattering and they often have an asymmetric element to them, which is totally my style, lol. They only have regular sizes here, no petite or plus sizes. They often have sales of 20-60% off clearance items. I've gotten really cute pieces here for less than $10. This location at the Ottawa Trainyards is big, with lots of selection. Their fitting rooms at the back are unisex. Lots of free parking in the plaza.

Most of the garments are now made in China, yet remain a little on the pricey side. There are usually lots of good sales to take advantage of though. My review is for my visit to the Trainyards location earlier this afternoon where I browsed the sales racks looking for a couple tops. I tried a couple on and selected 2 tops. One had a stain on the back of it. I was going to ask about a possible further reduction on the price. There appeared to only be one clerk in he store and she was busy with another customer. By the time she was finished with the other customer I had started to browse the store some more and decided I really didn't want to buy the tops I had selected, so I left.

    L L Bean - Boot key chains

These shoes were made by Rieker Shoes. I loved them so much. Sadly, LL Bean doesn't offer this company's shoes anymore. They brought me to love LL Bean. I have been to the flagship store in Freeport, ME. Within the last four years or so, LL Bean has been opening stores up in Canada. I had only visited the store in Barrie. I have yet to visit the one in Oakville. This LL Bean store is located at the Ottawa Trainyards. I was there to shop and eat. I decided to check this store out while I was there. I dropped by after Canada Day. It still had all things Canadiana displayed in the store when you first walk in. There was a sale going on where everything was 15% off. I will say that I found the prices to be expensive. There was a cool t-shirt that I liked. It was going for $75. Ouch! Even after the discount, it's still expensive. I did like the cargo pants and lightweight puffy jackets. The problem was that it was hot and humid in Ottawa. Just looking at these items made me sweat... haha! I was more interested in summer clothing. Caps were the exception. They were going for 20% off. I love caps these days, but there wasn't one screaming for me to own it. You can get a book on the history of this company. I liked the pocket knives and Yeti drinkware. I oddly went with a couple of smaller items. I got a keychain with LL Bean's signature boot on it. I also got a sticker, which is now on my laptop. I had the nicest woman at the checkout. I was pleased to get my 15% off. I put both items in my purse because they were so small. It was fun browsing in this store. I like the casual clothes and footwear that it offers, but don't like the high prices. (277)

Then in 2020 they opened 3 more stores in Canada and this one in the Ottawa Trainyards was one of them. L.L. Bean is like the epitome of preppy, in my opinion. Kind of like Eddie Bauer. I don't like any of their clothes for myself personally, too symmetric, too modest and not fashion forward enough, lol. However, it's a look I love on men, haha. Prices are high, but quality is good. I'm glad to see international companies expanding to Canada, but admittedly, I won't be a regular customer. This store in particular is a decent size. Everything is very neatly organized. It's similar to other locations in the USA. Lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot.

However, I'm not as stoked about it because most merchandise at Saks OFF 5TH are specifically for Saks OFF 5TH and were never in Saks Fifth Avenue (like how the stuff at the Banana Republic Factory Store was never actually in the Banana Republic retail store). That being said, Saks OFF 5TH does occasionally have some pieces that were in Saks Fifth Avenue for a fraction of the price. However, at the end of the day, 70% off a $2000 dress is still $600, which is still too rich for my blood, lol (this is a real example, although from the Kanata Saks OFF 5TH - it was a beautiful Roland Mouret dress that I still dream about. Luckily it was 4 sizes too big for me, so I didn't have to do any soul searching, haha). Ok, let's talk about this specific location downtown. It's brand spanking new and they are still not completely finished renovating at the time of the writing of this review. Everything is really neatly organized. I was there a little bit before lunch time on a weekday and staff outnumbered customers. Maybe people just don't know about it yet. The change rooms are big and clean. They don't have doors but curtains. However, the curtains have little metal hooks on them and there are little metal rings on the wall, so you can "lock" your curtain. I thought that that was kind of cool. There is a large women's clothes section, a smaller men's clothes section and a smaller still children's clothes section. The women's shoe section is large, and the handbags section is decent. I think there's a men's shoe section as well, but I'm not entirely sure, as I did not check it out. It's a fun place to poke around. I'm glad that Ottawa is getting some new stores.

We were greeted right away by an eager salesman who was friendly and knowledgable. The store was very busy, but he still managed to juggle all of the customers in a professional manner, all by himself. I gotta say, they have some fine threads in this store (DKNY etc). The small space is divided into two sections: fancy and casual; but even the casual section has clothes that would be appropriate for the office or "nicer than casual but not quite dressy" nights out. We browsed for a good half hour, and the employee was very good at making appropriate recommendations for the 3 very different guys that I was shopping with. He read their cues to know what each of them was looking for but was not pushy or trying to boost sales by recommending the most expensive items. Any kind of clothing they offer (such as shirts, dress shirts, suits and ties) comes in a wide variety of colours, so this would be a great "one stop shop" to pick out an entire outfit where everything matches. The colours are also very "in" this spring and there are even fancy shorts and dressy short sleeved shirts. Prices are higher, but they are applicable to the designer labels that L'Hexagone carries. It would be appropriate to shop here for parties, clothing for the office, weddings or anything that requires a little more than jeans and the same shirt you have worn to every single party last year. I had a good experience in this store and will be back to dress my boyfriend for all of the weddings we are going to this summer!
