If you have kids, then you know that finding a great kids clothing store is SO important. The store…read moremust be easily accessible (hey, strollers are hell to steer), offer clothes that make your kid look cool (got to impress the other parents), and it must be cheap, cheap, cheap! I found such a place at Billings Bridge Mall - Growing Kids. The clothes are really hip (a mini Sens jersey anyone???) and they have these pretty princess dresses for your little princess!!! The prices are very cool and they have sales all the time. The day I went in, everything was 25% off! It is around the corner from the LCBO and near the exit by Independent Grocery.

We found two dresses at the store that we both fell in love with and a bonus was that they had all the accessories to go with her outfit. Nice white nylons and the sales assistant, Evelyn, helped my daughter try on a variety of different shoes. The prices were very reasonable and there was no hard sell. Evelyn, really took the time to connect with my daughter and find out what we both were looking for. She took a lot of care wrapping the special dresses in clothes bags and making sure that my daughter felt very special too. We had a super girls time in this store and will definitely consider coming back when we are looking for dressy clothes on another occasion. Saw lots of nice duds for the boys here too. Thanks Evelyn you are one of the stars in Ottawa retail.

For those not familiar with Joe Fresh it's a Canadian brand that in Canada is sold exclusively at Loblaws (a grocery store), Loblaws affiliated stores (e.g. Real Canadian Superstore, Atlantic Superstore, etc.), and of course in their free-standing Joe Fresh stores. They've expanded to the USA with standalone stores and they were sold at JC Penney's for a while, but not anymore, so they might be in other stores in America now, I'm not sure. The designer behind the brand is Joe Mimran of Club Monaco fame (his wife is Kimberly Newport, founder of Pink Tartan). Despite these big names though, Joe Fresh is cheap fast fashion, not designer duds. When the brand first launched at Loblaws in the mid-2000s, admittedly I thought that buying clothes at a grocery store was weird, but the line is very successful and so much so that they built free-standing stores. I like the casual styles of Joe Fresh, but quality control is not great in my opinion. I've noticed skewed hems, loose threads, and some of their stuff shrinks very oddly in the dryer. However, they have really good sales and I've gotten jeans for less than $5 and dresses for less than $10. I mostly wear their stuff to loaf around the house or to run quick errands. They also have athletic wear in cute styles, so I wear Joe Fresh to the gym too. Their sizes run a bit big, so you'll likely have to size down. They don't have petites or tall, but they have plus sizes (up to 3X). They sell men's, women's and kid's clothes. Regular clothes, workout clothes, outerwear, sleepwear and underwear. This location is large and has more selection than at the grocery stores. Lots of free parking since it's in an enclosed mall.

If you have been to Loblaws, you have probably seen their Joe Fresh fashion section, which they…read morehave now expanded into its own stand alone store at St. Laurent Mall. This store is huge, very brightly lit, and caters to everything from baby clothing, men clothing, girls clothing and especially woman clothing and accessories. I originally was not going to go in, but then saw a huge sign that said 30% off everything and just had to check it out. I really got that whole GAP, slash H&M vibe from this store. I was pretty impressed. Their items are mid priced, but not cheap, i.e $39.99 for a top. Thankfully for their 30% off Pre Black Friday Sale, I snagged a pair of pajamas and a cardigan for just over $40.00. Customer service was alright. The associate on the sales floor acknowledged me, but the cashiers were not the friendliest (maybe it was because it was super busy and they were stressed...who knows?) I am still trying to separate Joe Fresh, from Loblaws grocery chain, but I think its neat that their clothing line came this far.

While waiting for the traffic lights to change, I liked seeing a store directory. I came here without any knowledge of the stores here. I liked coming here to figure it out. The Trainyards is like Heartland Town Centre in Mississauga. It is a bunch of stores that cover a lot of land. Think of it as a neighbourhood of stores. You have to strategically figure out where to park and walk to the stores that are around you. During my visit, I parked a grand total of three times. I stopped by Michaels and got some good items that were on sale. I was a happy shopper! I then parked in front of the Gap outlet. I also visited Old Navy and Sail that were on either side of the store. I then decided to drive and check out what other stores were there. I spotted Kettleman's Bagel Co. and parked to have lunch. The selection of stores is cool. If you are more of a mall shopper, this setup may not be for you. If you do like box stores, you'd like it here. My only problem I had was dealing with a woman in a minivan who was waiting for me to leave my spot to pull through. She actually honked at me. I didn't appreciate it and gave her a signal to say that I was staying. I was pulling up my GPS and I was under no obligation to move out of a parking spot to convenience an impatient idiot. (289)

There's a Kettleman's Bagel shop here; wish we had one in Kanata / Stittsville! The mall was big enough to be inviting to return. We will definitely come back!
