I was bringing my parents lunch for my dad's birthday from restaurants in the same plaza, and while I was waiting for the food, I decided to pop into this Metro to look at their cakes. I saw a mango mousse cake that I knew my dad would like. So I grabbed it from the fridge and asked the lady at the bakery if she could write on it. She was very pleasant and asked me what I wanted written and I said "Happy 65th Birthday, Dad." She brought out different colours of icing for me to choose from and I chose red. I was a little skeptical about the icing because the top of the mousse cake had this gelatin layer, and as a customer I've noticed that usually a gel icing is used on this type of cake and not regular cake icing, but I'm not a pastry chef and have never worked in a bakery, so I figure the workers know what they are doing. She wrote on the cake and showed me. It was legible and definitely good enough for a grocery store cake. I thanked her and made my way to the checkout at the front. By the time I reached the checkout the icing had definitely bled and was less legible. My suspicions were correct! Oh well. The lady at the cash register was also pleasant and used the handheld scanner to scan the barcode on the cake. She tipped the cake a little on its side to scan it. I paid ($21.99 - it was $23.99 but on special with $2 off) and was on my way. By the time I walked out the door and looked down at the cake the top half of the writing had slid and bled further and was no longer legible (see pic of the cake in my trunk). My dad is not one for aesthetics, so I knew he wouldn't mind, and besides, it makes for a funny story (and funny pictures). Although, others might be less forgiving. I wanted to let Metro know, just so they can better train their staff (bakery staff on what icing to use and cash register staff on not tipping cakes over when scanning), but reaching customer service is not easy, lol. I even tried to submit the survey with the code on my receipt, but after getting almost to the end, I could not proceed the screen was stuck/frozen. Oh well. The cake tasted great and my dad loved it, so I didn't want my money back or anything, just wanted them to know for training purposes. Anyway, like I said, the cake was tasty. It was moist and full of potent mango flavour (like from real mango puree, not artificial mango flavour). Staff were courteous and friendly, despite needing more training. The food conditions have improved a lot since I was last here because all the food is in proper condition. The ambiance here was very good because the store was very clean and the floors and the shelves were clean. I also liked some of the discounts on food prices here. For the reasons I have stated in this review, I highly recommend and encourage to visit this Metro location.

Their main competitor is No Frills under the Loblaws banner. Some Food Basics are not that nice in that the store is a bit grungy and the clientele are generally rude (depends on the postal code that the store is in), but this one in Orleans is one of the nicer ones on both accounts. The store is big and brightly lit. They are well stocked and staff are not surly. Customers are respectful on the most part. If you have been turned off by Food Basics in the past, give this one on Innes a try, you might have a more favourable opinion afterwards. This location is in a plaza. Lots of free parking.

The entrance was big, spacious and clean. Easy to navigate around the store. I came here to buy Christmas lights. Found them quickly, and also found a lot of other Christmas goodies that were half the price compared to their competitors. Self checkout was seamless. No complaints.

They have a surprisingly good selection of snacks from the UK, especially chocolates. And they are much cheaper than specialty candy stores. They carry Tunnock's brand items from the UK: Snowballs, Tea Cakes and Caramel Wafer Biscuits! I love these. They also have a good selection of Asian products. They have Turtle Chips from Korea! They also carry my favourite ramen brand from Korea: Buldak! Oh yeah, bring on that fire chicken! Haha. They have the largest selection of Buldak flavours I've seen outside of an Asian grocery store. Their regular mainstream items are reasonably priced and they often have sale items in-stock. Their pharmacists are competent and diligent. My parents get their prescriptions filled at this Walmart, and without going into the specifics, I can say that my interactions with the pharmacy staff in straightening out issues related to prescribers not being as clear as they could have been, have been positive. I have been impressed with their professionalism and committment to getting things right. Not all Walmarts are equal. This one is better than the rest. Lots of free parking, obviously.

Everything is well laid out in sections, making searching for particular items quick and straightforward. The store is fun to explore and always seems to offer something new and interesting. As with most Dollarama stores, you can sometimes find things for a few dollars that are being sold elsewhere for much more, so every visit is like a treasure hunt.

I find it's been the same old stuff for the past couple of years. Lots of parking, clean store. I had a good experience at this Costco. Will I be back? Yes, in a year (during a weeknight and not on a Saturday)!

This store has a Food Court, Gas Station, Tire Service Center, Pharmacy, Optical Department (with Optician) and Hearing Aids - and of course all the other things you expect to find at Costco - home and garden goods, automotive related goods, home improvement goods, furniture, groceries, clothing and more.
