Sadly, this place has gone downhill over the years. This location is always understaffed, so there are long lines at the register. In fact, when I last came here several weeks ago, there was only one line open! They really need to hire more employees. The location is clean and well maintained. Parking is never an issue. I like this store because it's organized, and they have a variety of things. The best times to shop are weekdays (M-F) before 11am and after 7pm. They're open 8am-10pm 7 days a week. Listen, I absolutely love the dollar tree I really really do! However, the lines are absolutely ridiculous no matter when or what location and it is inconvenient for absolutely everyone, including the employees because they are absolutely understaffed, and it is not their fault. They are not corporate, they cannot make those kinds of decisions to just hire more people on their own, so I feel bad for everyone when it comes to the line! 3rd time I come here and it's closed early w/ no store hours posted at the facility and according to the ones online it's supposed to be open all the 3 times I've attended!!! First time on a week day and the other 2 on weekends (a Monday, Friday and today being a Sunday) . Some people are friendly to be specific the African American teenager and the older caucasian female, the young gentleman has helped me out a couple times when the manager has been in the office going off on 2 employees for clock in/clock out issues... yes I heard the tea as the office right next to the register and everything could be heard. I waited in a line of ten people, I saw two give up and walk out; when I got to the register, I said "are you the only one here?". She replied yes, but that she did not mind her working conditions. I responded "You may not mind, but YOUR customers do!". Her response "IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, SHOP ELSEWHERE!" I kid you not! Can you even imagine? And get this.... the woman who had the gull to utter such nonsense was wearing a tag that proclaimed she was the SUPERVISOR! (Sheri) When I mentioned, writing a review... her voice seemed to drop an octave and she claimed Cor management was not providing enough hours. (whatever that means) If I were corporate and in a store where I heard a cashier (SUPERVISOR) speaking to a CUSTOMER in such a manner, I would FIRE her on the spot and apologize to every customer in the store. Absolutely unacceptable! shame, shame, shame, shame, shame! I understand we're living in difficult times, but if you're unable to properly staff your stores, you should consider closing them. Overall great value - just steer clear of kitchen gadgets (unless disposable and an absolute necessity). Wait time to check out wayyyy too long, but overall the store is very clean and neat. Lots of fun merchandise, but bear in mind that it's all pretty disposable and will wind up in landfills. The dollar store isn't the best place in the world; however, this one has so many random things that are very useful. I've actually found some kitchen utensils here for my dorm that worked out great! I am giving them a three because I did not enjoy the customer service that I witnessed. The lines were very long and instead of pushing back a break, the manager (I think) told the cashier to shut her light off and to not take any other customers. To make it better, after the manager hopped on she continued to shout to the cashier reminding her not to take anyone else (rude?). Not only that, the manager (I went in her line) was not being very friendly to the customers and she didn't even ask if I wanted a bag... good thing I have hands! My overall experience was not great and I am a bit disappointed. Will I be back? I'm not sure. read more

Not many people complain about "The Dollar Store".....but We've been shopping at this one for a number of years & they never have enough checkers. We just returned from there ....At around 3:30 we got in a line of about 5 people and in a short time it grew to over 15 or so behind us. The line was going very slow..but only one checker.....everyone was grumbling FINALLY two people (man & woman) came out of the office & ambled over to a checkout stand... they saw the long line but just kept on talking...so my wife went over to the man & asked if he was opening...he said "In a few minutes!" in a nasty way! So she came back. Finally he turned on the light so we went over ...he was acting like all the customers put him out...the women with him went back to the office & closed the door...she was helping No Body!!! So the man started checking us out when a young woman & her boyfriend just walked over & put their stuff down behind us......Immediately people waiting in the long line started screaming...so the next man who was behind us came over & told them "there's a long Line over there & you just can't walk up here ....& cut in!" The Man checker who was helping us was just staring ....finally he told the man to go back to the long line.....Then we chimed in.."He was next in line". ...finally the checker told the girl she had to go wait behind everyone. This Checker was just mad because he had to come out of the office to help..he had a bad attitude & didn't say anything to us. I'm sorry we broke up his nap but he won't see us again! read more

This is a typical Dollar Tree store with cheap-quality stuff for a dollar or less. This location has clean isles and organized merchandise. The selection is good and the staff is polite. 4 stars compared to other dollar/discount stores. I like shopping here for box candy before I go see a movie, or for cheap photography props like a knife I can cut in half to make it look like someone got stabbed. I sometimes go here if I need to get something. The inside is pretty big with lots of items and are properly labeled throughout the store. The staff are nice at the checkout lane and sometimes have one person working checkout, which isn't so bad. However, on one recent trip the floors were sticky near the front entrance and by the cash register. In the end, it's a great place to stop by to get quantity items for a bargain. read more

She said she was the only available person as another employee was at lunch. if you're unable to fully staff your store, you should close. Clearly hundreds of dollars is pouring through your cash registers. Running a store on a skeleton crew is not fare to your employees who become overwhelmed, but will cause customers to leave, as I did. ...so the 60-something lady in line in front of me wanted to return an eyeliner that she said was "dry as a bone." She had her receipt (it looked pretty substantial -- she must have spent at least $30). But in the process of opening the defective product, she left the barcode unscannable. The cashier said even though she had a receipt, she couldn't refund the money without a "valid barcode." After a couple of minutes of them bickering, I pitched in and said (in an outside voice) "Just give the lady her effing money back! She has a receipt.." At this point, the (presumptive) manager, who was about 15 feet away, piped in "No barcode, no refund. End of story." The lady thanked me for sticking up for her... After implementing a 25% across the board price increase, you'd think Dollar Tree would be looking to do what they can to retain customers. But they just lost 2 of them, along with anyone else I can convince to avoid this nightmare.. Over the last 25 years, I've spent thousands of dollars at this chain. Not 1 cent more... read more

This store is always crowded and not enough cashier's. Expect to wait a long time just to purchase a couple it items. Yes, one cashier in particular, she has blond hair. She might be the manager, is super rude and lazy. There are tape on the floor for the next person in line to wait, I heard her yelling at a customer to get in line. Yes she yelled!! The customer told her that there was no line, no signs that there was 1 line and there is tape on the floor for the next customer to wait. I love this Dollar Tree! I've been going since I was a kid to the Dollar Tree's/dollar stores around TO/Newbury Park, and I can't get over how much this location has stepped up. First of all, the store is always clean. A huge plus! Their merchandise is good, diverse, and changes seasonally. I like to make flower crowns, and was worried they wouldn't have enough options or quality flowers... lucky for me they have a huge wall of flowers for spring! All different colors, both flowers and vines and leaves. Their seasonal merchandise is cute, too - for Christmas, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, etc. If you're looking for party decor, party favors, or little decorations, this is the place to go for all those things. (I didn't buy anything around Christmastime but they had a ton of wrapping paper rolls and ribbons and stuff!) The staff is friendly, especially Liz. She's helped me multiple times, and I remember how calm and friendly she was on Christmas Eve-eve (December 23) when it was super crowded and busy. She's level headed, always smiling, always helpful, and quick at checking out. If you're looking for junk food they have a ton, but I was surprised at the healthier options they have as well. Usually I go for dog items (like dog toys or collars for the shelter), but I happened to browse the other aisles and saw they had nut-fruit mixes, dried bananas, and dried fruit like pineapple and apricot. They also have bags of in-shell peanuts, pretzels with peanut butter inside, snap pea crisps... I was so shocked! My boyfriend was laughing at me because I kept freaking out - banana chips are SO expensive at grocery stores (especially Whole Foods/Trader Joe's), and they had a huge bag for $1! I find myself lately leaving more negative reviews than the positive reviews and I don't like it. Unfortunately, I had nothing but negative experience at this store today, it was the worst. I walk in and get 2 items I need and go to the cashier line, there were a dozen people ahead of me. It's a large & clean store. Well stocked with plenty of items to choose from, not just the cheap stuff. They do not have a large refrigerated area, only small units that contains sodas & ice cream snacks. They carry a nice selection of snacks, candies, canned & boxed food products. PARKING This is located inside a plaza so there's plenty of parking. CUSTOMER SERVICE I've been coming here since they opened. The selection could be better and cleaner. When I go to the Newbury Park store they always seem to have enough stuff out. Another thing in the Thousand Oaks store is that you can never find a cart or a hand basket. I also don't think the store should be using carts to hold things for go backs or to put product out, especially when there are never any to be found. They need to figure out a better system to be doing that! Lastly there are never enough cashiers whenever there is a long line, but enough cashiers when there is hardly no line. I've been shopping there ever since they opened. I recently bought a few hundred Cellophane Loot Bags for an outreach. We were ready to stuff the bags when we noticed that the bags were defective (the entire side was not fused, rendering it useless). I was told that their policy is that they can't take returns on "opened" items. How could I know that the packaged cellophane bags were defective without opening them?!!! I mean, they can't sell faulty useless items either. Well, the cashier wouldn't budge. Not only was I out of bags in the middle of a major deadline of giving hundreds of packages away to the homeless that night but they also didn't have any more cellophane bags to sell to replace what I needed. Extremely disappointed. Not only was this very inconvenient for me but why argue with a loyal customer over an insignificant amount of dollars. I LOVE Dollar Tree! Buuuut get here around 8:30 and there already rushing you out of the store even though they close at 9. I thought maybe it was a one time thing but no. The first time the lights were already half off and the moment I stepped foot in the door the older manager with glasses loudly told me "you have less than 30 minutes to shop you'll be in the dark at 9."
