I forgot my ID at home one time they made a big deal and said they couldn't sell it to me and said that that's how they do it (required for every transaction). I just left the store right now and the register next to me had a person with the similar situation and right away was Sold the alcohol with very little problem whatsoever. This unfair practice is something that should be monitored and revised. Blanket procedures is what makes a quality experience and earn respect from clients. I am deeply disappointed in feeling wronged about this.

It honestly feels like all the Salinas people come here and just terrorize the place. There definitely needs to be more employees on the floor throughout the day to keep things organized. Another thing that doesn't make sense is the dressing rooms not being open until later in the morning; it's really inconvenient if you're an early shopper. I went into this Daiso Japan store yesterday for the first time and enjoyed checking it out…read more However, I recall that it was not too long ago when most items were priced at $1.75. Now the prices have risen to $2.25. Still a good deal but gee, I thought the brand just raised the prices to $1.75 not too long ago. I recall when I first discovered these stores in the Bay area and prices were $1.25 (and that was for everything!). Things sure have changed. This store is like the typical Daiso Japan. It has a unique collection of Japanese novelties including hair accessories, socks, kitchen ware, electronics, stationary, drinks, candy and more. Disney and Sanrio collaborate to make specific merchandise for these stores. The merchandise I generally find is of amazing quality- I have socks I bought at the stores years ago that still look like new. I have laundry net bags from Daiso that have never worn out. I would say, their items are a slightly better quality than Dollar Tree. However, with Dollar Tree merchandise at mostly $1.25/$1.50, I would prefer Dollar Tree now except for the occasional time that I was something unique and is authentically Japanese for a low price then Daiso would be it. I just do not like this inflation aspect especially with the sudden price rises. I think it would be better if anything to do it more gradual. But then perhaps it is those unjustified US tariffs that affect prices more than anything. Sure prices are still good for $2.25 at Daiso, but when will the prices rise again? How high are they planning to go on pricing till customers stop shopping at these stores? What draws people to Daiso Japan stores is the large selection of various merchadise, that fact that you can buy items that came directly from Japan. I will continue to shop at these stores and am thrilled that there is one in Salinas now. However, as prices rise, I am more discerning about what I will buy. Before, I did a lot of impulse buying when I would shop at these stores but not anymore. I do have my favorite items to shop for - hair accessories (just as good as the Scunci brand items sold at CVS and Walmart but for more than half their prices) and socks. They do have a huge selection too. But then, Dollar Tree has similar merchandise for less. Also, there is one major advantage that Dollar Tree has over Daiso Japan stores now besides prices, Dollar Tree (at least all the ones I have been to) do not have self checkout. I hate self checkout. I prefer to actually have a clerk ring up my merchandise. Self checkout always feels cold and unfriendly. Even then, it can be difficult to match the barcodes with the scanners. But I am a social person by nature and like going to a store where the clerks ring up my merchandise while asking how my day is going or did I find everything I wanted. I do not expect to be chatting with clerks but some communication is nice. It makes me more inclined to want to come back to the store again to shop. Every Daiso Japan store I have been to within the last year including this one is self checkout. However, that is a recent change. They used to have actual clerks at the counters. Perhaps it is a way companies save money as they do not have to hire as many employees anymore with self checkout.

I love the hard-working family who runs this store. Yesterday, my husband left a wallet full of cash at this store (approximately $900). The owner tried to give it back, but my husband had already left the parking lot. This morning, the store's owner returned the wallet and wouldn't even take any reward money that was offered to him. It's nice to know people like this still exist. I will be a customer for life.

As I walked in I asked an employee if this place was a dollar pound and he said yes. Didn't realize it was $2.99 until I got to the register. There was a ton of people here and people have no Courtesy whatsoever. They're throwing stuff everywhere on the floor. It makes me wonder how they keep their house. Especially if they throw stuff around at stores like that... It says a lot about their cleanliness. All of a sudden I saw people line up and I asked an employee what that was about and I guess they're all waiting for the supposed new merchandise to dig in. That's just freaking crazy. People act like they're gonna find a golden nugget or something. The stuff here is very dirty and not organized at all
