It was fun to peruse the aisles and see their seasonal decor (Easter now). They still at St. Patrick's day items for sale even though it has passed. The bad: I was looking for pool toys but didn't find much other than pool noodles. This isn't the most spacious of Dollar Trees I've been to. I understand that this Dollar Tree location is quite far from where I currently reside, but I decided to stop by anyway since I was in the area. It was such an overwhelming feeling of joy to realize that during my visit to this specific store, there wasn't much of a line at the registers. It honestly caught me by surprise in the best way. Service was deplorable! After unloading half my stuff onto the register I was asked by a "management figure" (I say this with caution cause he was NOT management material) to move to the next register. After doing so there was a sign saying register closed and no clerk in sight. This management figure had the gall to argue that is was open. Went in for a couple of things with my daughter. I usually don't have any issues at this location so I was surprised at the service I received. The cashier (an older, Hispanic lady) will not even acknowledge you if she thinks you don't speak Spanish (I do, I am fluent and it was my first language) I attempted to greet her upon entering, no response. Did my shopping, got in line and waited my turn. In front of me was an older white gentleman and behind me were two Hispanic women. Did not say a word to the gentleman in front of me, even after he asked a question. Then it was my turn. Great cheap shopping experience. This Dollar Tree is just next to one of my favorite shops (one of my not so hidden secrets, Z Fashion) and is of mandatory visit when in Escondido. Even if I don't need to buy, once there I get some stock of items that at Vons or other supermarkets will cost me 3 times more, like bleach, all sorts of detergents, laundry stuff, toilet paper (do not expect Costco quality but hey, that is flushed away immediately anyways:) and all sorts of cleaning items you might need. Do not go there for groceries (like in the 99 cent stores) because you won't get that and the variety of the canned items is not that great for my taste. But still, it is a very nicely organized (well, people touch and touch all the plastic containers kitchen related but that is the nature of this type of shop, not many people to put some organization immediately after) and clean, and service is fast. read more

I purchased several items at this store and when I got back to my car I noticed one was cracked and another was chipped. I ran back in the store to exchange them and told Teresa, who said it would be ok. FROM OUT OF NOWHERE a voice shouted "you got a receipt for those?" It scared the crap out of me. I didn't have a receipt because sadly, I told Teresa earlier, I didn't want one. Sonia, who obviously didn't see me two minutes before, said "we can't accept them if you don't have a receipt". As it turns out I did replace the damaged merchandise. They have a lot of little toys and party supplies. They have food and home supplies as well. They have lots of holiday items too. They had a lot of Valentine's Day cards available and it's just $1. The products are not bad. The problem is the line is always - ALWAYS - at least 15 minutes long. If you've got that kind of time to burn (and comfortable shoes to stand around in) then more power to you. If you hope to dart in and out for an item, even if you know exactly where it is, forget about it. One of the cash registers has inventory permanently stacked on the conveyor so it never gets used. I've never seen two registers used simultaneously no matter how long the line is or how many employees are there. Additionally the sole cashier handles additional duties like balloons which slows the line even more. The 99 Cents Only Stores usually have more than one register going, and if not they're quick to call for backup. I don't know why Dollar Tree is handling lines the way they are, I just know it's a bummer. read more

This is the worst Dollar Tree I've been to in Escondido. Today I went in there and it looked clean and in order when I got there as soon as I entered but as I went around the store I noticed boxes all over each aisle. I am in a wheelchair, and I couldn't move around the items I wanted to buy because the boxes we're blocking the items I needed. And I looked around for store associates I only saw two unless there was one or two in the back. There was one at the cash register and the other is blowing up balloons. I was in the restrooms of this store and if I hadn't had to use them urgently, I would have left. The floors were filthy, the walls were gray with some white on them in spots. I guess this was to try to hide the graffitti on the walls, There were words written in black, red and green all over every wall. The first rest room I went in had the toilet seat up and feces all over the outside of the toilet, The second one, which I used, had no toilet paper and no soap, The sink looked like it had never been cleaned. I looked online and this store received an A for restroom cleanliness every time it was inspected!!!!!!! They probably knew the inspector was coming. The staff is extremely friendly, the manager looks like he's 18 but he seemed as if he loves his job. This location was surprisingly one of the most clean and well organized that I've been to.
