Your Dollar Store With More

I was killing a little time in 'Como Lale Village' when shopping with Daughter a while ago. She…read morewent one way, I went the other. After tending to some banking needs, I decided to pop into the 'Dollar Store' for a peak while waiting for her return. I knew I did not have enough time for a serious look, but did have time to quickly scan a few aisles. I was really quite impressed with the size of this store, and large selection of offerings. It's a rather large store, with aisle after aisle of shelves, bins, and all, crammed full of various household and other assorted stuff & such, typical and not so typical of such stores. I did not see any fresh items - like bakery goods or the like - had hoped they might carry fresh bread, buns, and such, but no such luck. I am quite sure my lady would have a great time browsing inside this store. She enjoys the dollar-type stores, and from my brief sightings, this is definitely one for her to check out. Maybe for some Christmas holiday 'garnishes' or the like when we shopping in the the Village next?

I've been coming to this dollar store since I was a child. Some things have remained great - and…read moreothers, not so much. I find the selection of items at this store to be consistently strong. Gardening, electronics, birthdays or crafts, they've got what you need. Pricing is generally quite good as well. I've been severely disappointed at the increase in price of candy and chocolate. I usually expect the dollar store to be cheap candy - but it has now risen more than local grocery stores, 7-11s, and pharmacies. This is so disappointing, and they're making huge markups on this product, which completely defeats the purpose of the dollar store.

The food court had a great choice of Chinese, Persian, Indian, Japanese, fast food etc. The ramen noodle soup - Chashu Tonkotsu ($15.45 inc.) at the "Nikko Teriyaki" i had here was just excellent. There was a public library with free access to computer resources and career services too. Generally it's a shopping centre in upgrades. A Tim Horton's coffee shop was just at the entrance through to the Lougheed Sky Train station. Many banks services available at the other end of the mall.

The Coquitlam location has a rather poor layout with narrow aisles and food products spread throughout the store. Most of not all are past their best by date which you'll hear Bianca herself explaining does not mean they're expired. Yes she has her own in store promotional videos playing on repeat. Generally I would expect items that other supermarkets have passed on to be heavily discounted. Some of the prices here are competitive, others seem haphazard. It feels a bit slapstick as if the people who price items at value village are putting in a shift here. I digress - once in awhile you'll come across something good - perhaps popcorn or another snack, perhaps a gallon can of beans, perhaps a Nike swimsuit or t- shirt with some loose threads. Generally though, go in with low expectations and you might be surprised. Plenty of parking out front and the location is just around the corner from The Brick(& a value village).

On Tuesday it is seniors day on food so bring your parents and grandparents. The service was great as the cashiers will also ask the age of your parents and grandparents to see if they qualify on savings on food. This place has great value on well....everything! Pro-tip check the best before date on food as some items are past their best before dates but are still OK and priced cheaply because of it. If you need anything for your home including rugs, appliances, toys, clothes they have that too. In a way this place is like a super dollar store where you can still find a lot of things for less. Your dollar will go father at Bianca Amor's!
