One thing to note - they are open longer than Dollar Tree on all 7 days. Something to keep in mind.

I was looking for some cheapo hand tools and the selection isn't the greatest. Also the aisles are a bit on the narrow side. Guess they were trying to cram in 1 more row of goodies. There is a security guy planted right at the exit. I feel bad for him. How would you ever catch a shoplifter here? Random piece of trivia: this place used to be a Blockbuster video store. As of writing this review, the store is undergoing construction, but remained open to customers. It is hard to describe the feeling of the place, but it was a welcome mix of craft store/neighborhood bargain store/boutique. There weren't any descriptions of what each aisle contained, but if you aren't in a rush, that lack of signage adds to the charm. You could easily spend a lot of time wandering up and down the aisles and looking at all the little items up for sale. Arts & Crafts, Kitchenware, lots of quirky signs, etc. Yes, I did end up finding a traveler's sewing kit, paid for my purchase and left the store feeling very happy.

It's definitely much smaller than most other similar stores, but they have the essentials, and they also do helium balloons, including the big metallic letters/numbers. I don't shop here often, aside from the aforementioned balloons, which I got for my wife's birthday, and they dutifully wrote my name down along with the day I'd need to pick them up. Other purchases have included random stuff like pop, batteries, etc. The reason I'm giving them five stars is because the older Korean couple running the store are some of the sweetest people you could ever hope to meet. They're so nice, I want to buy stuff I don't need just to give them business. Always friendly and helpful, and they apologized to ME because I tried to use my card to pay for something that was only a couple dollars but store policy is $3 and over. I gladly grabbed an LED flashlight and a Coke Zero to make it up. This shop is the definition of friendly mom and pop store.

I just did not have much to do on Super Bowl Sunday because I don't watch football. I was walking around Vancouver and I thought I would go in and look around. I thought it was pretty decent for a dollar store , although it was a little bit small. The "dollar store" doesn't seem to be a literal thing anymore, as a lot of items were over a dollar. However, they had some more useful stuff than I usually see at a store like this one. They had some useful office supplies, Pyrex pie plates, and "acceptable", though probably not long lasting, looking cookware. I actually bought a couple small things there that I had been meaning to pick up at the hardware store. The most expensive thing I saw was a drying rack for $28. This seemed like a pleasant store to me and, bonus, it doesn't have the overwhelming smell of plastic. I am still thinking I need that glass pie plate. The area does not seem "touristy", but this store did have a selection of postcards and very small gifts (magnets, patches, pencils, postcards).

A few questionable characters seemed to roam around outside and inside, though if you're just going in/out and know what you're looking for, this place serves its need at a fair price.

For example I will have them go to the end of the checkout and bag our items in a bag with another stores logo, and she will say we took that bag from there. Last I checked dollar tree doesn't sell Lululemon or Purdy's chocolate. She also has NEVER said thank you. Just tosses our receipt down and looks away. Now there is a newer cashier there that does not know how to count Canadian coins and embarrassed me in line. I had to count my change for her twice, both times she then recounted it and said I was short. I was not, and if she knew the value of each coin it could have saved me the frustration and embarrassment. When I tried to explain the value of the coins to her she tossed the in the till before I could prove it. It's not like it was a handful, it was three quarters and four nickels. The selection here is not very wide but it has the basic stuff you need. There is usually only one cashier working in the evening, so it can take a while to pay especially when there is a long line. Another drawback is the location. It is quite hard to find as it is quite "hidden" as it is at the very quiet end of the skytrain plaza. It is near RBC, which is the opposite side of CIBC or Tim Hortons area.
