The things purchased from this chain generally don't fall apart in a week. The stuff here easily lasts months, if not years. In my books, this is what sets Dollarama apart from the rest of them, including direct competitor Dollar Tree. Very convenient location for a dollar store in this part of town. Parking is available in the nice large Scottsdale Centre parking lot. The location is a decent size, and selection seems to be slightly better than some other (smaller) ones I've visited in the past. Special mention goes to electronic section. Their $3 mobile phone cables work as good at their $20-30 counterparts. Yes, I tested them properly. Another special mention goes to their tool section. The stuff here is less than 1/3 that of the competition, but in many cases it's the exact same product, right down to the packaging. Recommended.

And I was impressed how large it was, how well-marked all the departments were, and how all the prices actually seemed to be a few bucks or less (in contrast, some "dollar" stores have items priced well over $10. Go figure. I'm now leery of "dollar store" pricing since you never really know). This store seems to be the real dollar deal. The variety and selection of merchandise is huge. I walked down the snack aisle and the assortment of candy alone was awe-inspiring. I'm not saying it was all brand name or high end gourmet fare, but if you're hankering for sweets or chips, man, you could do a lot worse than here. It's cheap and it's a-plenty. Same with arts and crafts supplies, and office and school supplies. Why go and spend more elsewhere for envelopes? I ask you? Also, I usually shop later in the day so I like that they close late at 10pm on most days. I like taking a peek inside before taking the bus/skytrain on the way home. It's a smaller store so the selection isn't as vast as other bigger dollaramas. Usually I find at least one cool item but I didn't find anything interesting so i left empty handed on this visit. The thing i learned from shopping at dollarama is that if you find something cool, just get it because chances are it won't be there anymore or you would have to return to the same location to find it again because other locations are sold out of the cool item. The items they have pretty much are the usual items you'd find at any other dollarama. They have a whole aisle dedicated to christm2as even though halloween hasn't happened yet which i found kinda funny. A few months ago, they only had one or two staff at the checkout area with no self serve machines. One big change recently is they put in at least 4 self-serve checkout machines. The checkout lines are much faster because of this. My friend used the self serve kiosk and it looked really simple to use, which is great. I like that it talks through every step as well. Overall, the self serve checkouts are a welcome addition but i'd recommend going to a bigger dollarama for better item selection if you're actually looking for dollar store stuff. I'm in the metrotown area a lot so I'll definitely come back once in a while and see if they have something cool or useful (but cheap!) to buy. 3 stars.

I went back to return it and was told I could only exchange it. The other paints of the same color were dried out too. They refused to refund so I had to take another color. The products can be defective, I have had kitchenware like whisks literally disintegrate or oxidize the first time I used them. The price points for things are decent but not great. Only saving grace is the lady and her husband that own it are really nice but i won't go again if they are not there.
