As a child of the 80's, I really dislike outdoor malls and this recent outdoor mall trend. Where…read morewould Debbie Gibson play? It rains on you. It snows on you. You're nose is frozen on your face during the winter. In the summer it's so damn hot you melt onto their hard, metal benches if your lucky enough to find one of the few benches without interlopers. This concept might work in upstate New York. This is Missouri. It's either 95 degrees or 30. That pleasant food court smell doesn't waft up through the doorway to great you. Instead you're greeted with the odor of spent petroleum. This summer you will be dodging the angry wasps that guard each planter. Faux elegance at it's best. The stores are mostly smaller versions of what you would find at Oak Park or Independence center. This place is a decent stop off to kill some time but if you really want shopping you need to go to the larger stores at other locations. There is one bright spot, Macy's. Why? This store is genius. In this unassuming store they have placed a Starbucks, an oasis for men waiting for their wives while they finish shopping. The mere act of selecting flip flops can take a woman over two hours -this is a fact. For the first time in my life I sat down and enjoyed an anchor store comfortably without pressuring my wife to go. This alone gives the entire area a bump to three stars. Of course, its small enough my wife can't find what she's looking for and we end up driving over to Oak Park anyway.

I was so impressed with the store that I did some thrift thing for the first time in a couple of decades. The staff was super helpful and kind, most folks there are volunteers. I was able to find a pin striped suit that fit me for $30. All I have to do is get the pants hemmed because I am short. I also got a couple of shirts, including a KC Royals shirt for five dollars because I didn't have one. Students and teachers get discounts on Friday and seniors 55+ get 25% off on Wednesdays. I love that this store works with people who are transitioning from being unhoused to housed and they let them come in and select whatever they need for their new place with no charges. For this reason, we will be making all of our donations at Hillcrest thrift store from now on.

The items are discounted and most things are really good quality. Last time I was there we got a 25 lb kettlebell for $20, some named brand face cream that was $4, and my husband got some Monster headphones he was really excited about for $40. Unfortunately when we got back to our family's house only one headphone worked. We took it back and I was pleasantly surprised that the return process was seamless. We will continue to go back when we are in town and see what deals we can find.

What does shoot this place down is that it is unfortunately pretty pricey to shop here. This place has a few dressing rooms and modest restrooms. Definitely recommend stopping at this Goodwill!

While there are definitely some treasures and deals to be found, it's ultimately a downgrade in quality from the previous location, at least at the current time. I also want to note that despite loudly advertising that "all clothing is $2.98," they have a section at the front of higher priced clothing items. I admit I think this is a rather duplicitous business practice. It also seems random what clothes are put up there. Some of it was the same fast fashion that infests the rest of the clothing racks, while some finer materials and true vintage was languishing on the $2.98 racks. It just didn't make sense to me! It's worth a stop if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way for Frugal's.

I found the parking lot to be depressing as if I was in the middle of no-where with civilization being hundreds of miles away. I'm just adding this point as it was the way I felt. That said, the staff friendly and most of the patrons were very nice. Please note Thrift stores are very hit or miss so going from week to week can result in a highly different experience. I'll be the first to admit, all thrift stores have a funky smell to them and I found Frugal's to be especially smelly; nothing to the point of unbearable but it lingers for the duration of the visit. Now in terms of being what do they offer, well pretty much everything and anything. Furniture, clothing, toys, books, CDs/DVDs, cookware, you name it. I found the kitchen section in terms of pots, pans, mixers and things of that nature to be very sparse while their main attraction was clothing. Off in the back right, one can find a small furniture section with some decent to horrible offerings. I liked some of the books they had and was extremely tempted to pick something up since I found many that perked my interest. Their music selection had me laughing as I noticed a couple odd bands from the 80s, 90s and beyond which I don't think anyone would buy. Color Me Bad anyone? I don't recall seeing much for motorized lawn equipment but I was in and out relatively quickly. Overall, thrift stores have a very particular clientele and subculture. I'm pretty sure if you're reading this you know how things go, so I'm not going to try and upsell you, rather give you the thumbs up to come on by and see what they got. It's safe and the people are nice while have a very large floorspace open to many different reasonably priced objects.

They have the usual assortment of dollar store type items - plastic table cloths, gift bags, cards, kitchen ware, etc. Except they're not all priced at $1.00. Many items seemed to be higher. The gift bag I bought was $2.00. I'd picked out another one and it was $1.50. Helium filled balloons were (I think) $3.00-$5.00 dollars. The man working was very nice and said helium prices were up. Could be, I don't buy balloons very often.
