Not a fan at all but I wanted to be! I had the most mediocre pedicure today. I am not normally picky but I expected a good outcome. My nails were cut crooked, no dead skin or cuticle trimming, no massage. The paint job is also sub-par. I think for $33 the Pedi should have lasted longer than 15 minutes and there should have actually been some attention paid to getting an actual pedicure. Unfortunately I will not be back. Who knew a nail salon could be so beautiful AND eco-friendly at the same time?! Simply stunning interior that will make you feel like you walked into a high-end hotel. The owners have not missed a single detail in creating this nail heaven. They are trying to be as toxic free and sustainable as a nail salon can be from their nail polish and gels, and copper bowls for your feet to the mini ipads they have at each station so there are no piles of paper magazines floating around. They also offer you a complimentary beverage (water/tea/coffee) with your service, which is always a welcomed touch. And there are even charging stations at each chair so you can charge your phone while your nails are being transformed. I just did the Classic mani/pedi ($65), which is fine for me since I don't like to spend too much time at the salon, but they also offer a more deluxe 90-min Signature version ($100) with extra exfoliation, and a keratin treatment. (They do gel and nail art too). They did a great job! My hands were a mess and they very diligently took the time to make them look normal again. Super excited to go back. Getting your nails done is always a nice treat, but they really have managed to take it to the next level and make it that much more special. What's also nice is that this place isn't just for us girls. They also offer services for men (hence the Dandy in the name) and children. I have a feeling this will be one of the hardest reservations to get once the word gets out so I signed up for one of their memberships to make sure I secure my spot in one of those swanky velvet chairs 2x a month! read more

Here's another reason to go to Mill Valley! We have been discovering what a great hidden gem Mill Valley is, right here in our Marin backyard! First... park, it's easy. Then walk around. As a guy, I felt more like a celebrity than a male minority in this trendy, uni-sexual feeling spot. It's even a creative way to start a date with someone special... go before dinner, have a glass of wine/champagne on them, leave feeling pampered, fresh, and special. It's a new-age equivelant of the town barber shop. A socializing place where clients chat, share restaurant tips, stories, and a glass of wine. If you can't possibly tear yourself away from social media they have an i-pad at each pedi-station pre-loaded with the latest magazines... but we have fun just meeting people. Dolls and Dandy has a cheerful, helpful staff that can advise on what would be best for you and your budget. We were amazed at what great deals their specials are... Early bird, monthly, and membership prices. Or you could just try them once... but, the truth is you'll find yourself looking for excuses to come back. Just stopped in for the first time and enjoyed a mani with Kimmy. The salon is BEEEEE-you-tiful and relaxing. The polish selection was over the top incredible. Loved the ipad at my chair for the magazine read. A great experience and my manicure still looks perfect a week later. Even though I didn't get a pedi, I still got to sit in the pedi cushy chair. What I appreciated was that the manicurist wasn't standing by my hands leaning over to do the work like what happens in other salons. My fingers were NOT stuck in tiny bowls of dish soap water and Kimmy was NOT awkwardly smashed between chairs standing/stooping etc etc to do the work. (all of which makes me uncomfortable). After I left my first review the salon called me right away to apologize and offered for me to come in and have them correct the work which I really appreciated. It was right before the Christmas holiday and I just couldn't find the time. Fast forward to this week I got a promo email for 20% off for online bookings so it was the perfect opportunity to give it another try since I was in dire need of a cleanup. The work they did was great this time. Both aestheticians were very friendly and meticulous. Best of all they provided a complimentary service to make up for my last experience which I did not expect. (I didn't even see their response to this review until now). Don't waste your time or money here. I met a friend for lunch and decided to walk-in for pedicures. We figured since it was Mill Valley we couldn't go wrong. A quick soak in lukewarm water followed by the fastest and least detailed clip and file I've ever had. No exfoliating which I really needed and had to do myself when I got home. I didn't see the guy apply a top coat yet when I inquired about this he said he had. Two days later a couple of toes were chipped. Most pedicures last me a month. We were the only ones there so it's not like they needed to hurry because other customers were waiting. And their online price is $25 yet they charged us $32. read more

But every time I leave there I feel disappointed by the way my manicure turned out. The best nail salon I have ever been to. It's a hip, clean and beautiful space and you feel relaxed as soon as you walk in the door and are greeted. As soon as I sat down, I was offered an array of drink options, including tea, latte or cappuccino. They have mini iPads at every chair with endless magazine choices. They also have strong wi-fi. I've been a handful of times already and they have done a fabulous job for gel nails and pedicure. I love that they offer only non toxic brands of polish too. They also have convenient online scheduling in advance which I appreciate. I am so glad they opened up in Mill Valley. I will definitely be a regular here and highly recommend this spot to anyone. read more

What a disappointment. I had high hopes for this place and chose it specifically because it seemed like a place My friend and I could have a nice experience at which to me, is worth the added cost. I was disappointed with the polish selection consisting mostly of of nearly empty bottles, but eventually found a color that would work. My friend and I had appointments for a mani/pedi at 2. At about 2:05 her pedicure started. I sat and waited until about 2:15 when a copper bowl of Luke warm water was brought to me. About enough water to cover my pinky toes, but not my whole foot. The water quickly turned from warm to cold as I waited for my nail tech to eat in the back room(something with onions). A little after 2:20 she sat down to get started. At this point my friend is getting her feet and legs massaged and is well in to her pedicure. After a quick wash of my feet and toenail clip my nail tech asked for my polish. She did not massage my feet or legs with lotion, no oil on my cuticles, or scrub on the bottom of my feet. We both asked her about it and assumed she forgot, but she said "no, I already did it" and refused to discuss any further. I was shocked by her response and made to feel so uncomfortable that i had to leave. She and the other nail tech spoke directly to each other in another language and laughed at us, repeatedly. By 2:40 my pedi was over and my friend who's pedicure started 20 minutes before mine was just coming to an end as well. I had to cancel my manicure. Such a disappointment. This place is deceptive and not nearly as nice as the price or appearance reflects. The receptionist offered me a discount, which was nice, but did not make up for the horrible experience. Also, I still need a pedicure. I will definitely not be going back. read more

One of the worst nail places I've ever gone!! DO NOT SPEND MONEY on this place please. The service was super rude and my nails are already messed up and it's been a couple of days. I made sure to be super kind and I asked if they could do a super simple French tip and they said they could do anything. When it came time to do my nails when she tried to do the design it looked like a child did it and she was frustrated that I didn't like it. So I told her it's ok and to just paint them all white. (I got acrylics) and I made sure to ask if they are good at acrylics and she said yes very, but they are all weirdly shaped and super uneven and not flat and not even covering all of my nail. I tried calling for a refund and she got super angry and raised her voice a lot and wouldn't let me talk. read more

I had such an amazing experience here because of the lovely environment and wonderful product curation of all their 5-free lacquers and gels. Never before have I experienced all natural scents and oils from EO products in a nail lounge. I am used to constantly holding my nose and getting a headache in salons because of the horrible chemicals from using artificial nails. This does not happen at Dolls & Dandy. On top of that, I also received custom nail art after picking a couple colors and describing a design. If you come in with other nail art pictures, some of the nailists can make the designs happen for you! Very happy to have Dolls & Dandy in Mill Valley! Beware: New Owners. One of the workers apparently bought it. When it first opened it boasted skilled spa workers from as far away is Sonoma, that's how they got away with the high prices... They are all gone now...Now it's just like any old nail salon in San Francisco. Messy, disorganized. Smells like microwaved food. Prices the same of course. Wonder how long they will last. Very disappointed. Not only this place is overpriced (like everything in Marin), the quality of their manicures/pedicures is way below the "standard." I didnt have an appt, but wad taken in and didnt have to wait. My feet were placed in a large metallic bowl (without a liner) for the pedicure part. The entire process of cleaning my toenails took like 3-4 minutes. I had to tell the pedicurist where to cut my toenails after she was done. The polish looks fine. The whole thing about not lining the bowl where the feet go-well fungus is a real thing and we do have it in Marin so if you want one-you can get definately get it... The manicurist did the "dry" manicure-she used cuticle removal to soften up my nails and the tissue around them. The pain job leaves me wishing more. I am attaching pictures of what my nails look like 25hours later-and i didnt do any housework. I asked to file my nails-she cut them sooo short, looks ugly. I picked a nice color but then changed my mind and the manicurist brought a cheap nail polish compared to other ones. Well here is the result. The pictures clearly show polish chipping already. I didnt like the fact that my manicurist reminded me to leave a tip! She said after you're done go to the front and leave a tip. Wow! Before I left, they checked my nails and said they were dry. By the time I got to my car-2 nails were gone. i went back...the smiles disappear and everyone was not happy to see me. A woman was asked (by the owner?) to fix it. She used acetone or whatever to smooth it out and put another coat of clear-looks disgusting-now its all bubbly and yucky. She re-did my other nail entirely. Overall, not worth the money. I am not paying for the decor of the place, I am paying to get my nails done and last me at least a week... read more

Unlike many of the other nail salons in MV, this one actually has class and charm. I'd even consider hanging out here if they didn't do nails. The interior is lovely and serene. The staff is incredibly helpful and sweet. It's a completely welcoming (toxin-free) environment. I appreciate that they have an express nail option for only $10. Not every trip needs to be an "experience". Sometimes I just want to be in and out quickly and cheaply. What a wonderful addition to downtown Mill Valley! read more

Sorry Ladies, positively worst mani pedi ever. The salon is pretty with nice decor. Chair comfy and hot water in copper bowl all lovely. The cost is high! $65 for basic mani pedi plus tip so expectations are high and sadly they do not deliver. No reason to go here. Listen to me and save yourself some money. The color selection not extensive at all a bit on the minimal side and lacking in quality polish one would expect. I choose a color that perhaps was at the end because the manicurist added some liquid to the bottle. Which I thought was fine until 4 hours later the polish hadn't dried !! It wrinkled up and looked terrible. I was flying to NY for a wedding and had to have the nails redone the next day. I wrote the salon immediately and they refused to give refund because the manicurist has spent an hour performing a bad mani pedi. Who's logic is this? I've been here enough times that I can accurately recommend that people should absolutely go somewhere else. It's just too hit and miss. When it's good it's just ok, and when it's bad it's gross and/or your nails look like a child did them. My first really bad experience was with a pedicure--after the step where the technician scrubs your feet and gets all the skin off, instead of rinsing my feet she just loaded up a bunch of lotion and rubbed all the dead skin into my legs, it still makes me gag thinking about it. I let the front desk girls know and they reluctantly comped my pedicure. The girls at the front, I can't figure them out, they're not friendly, but they're not exactly rude. Just basic, vacant, and insincere. But that's ok, I don't require fake friendliness at a nail salon. In spite of that experience, it's the only "luxury" nail salon in MV and I've been back several times. I usually get gel manis and depending upon the tech I get, they were passable, but not really great. I blame myself, I have short nails and I'm sure it's hard to paint them, but if you are a professional nail painter, I would think that you'd be equipped to handle that? But still, I gave them a lot of passes because I feel bad about my nails. Today, it's Mother's Day, I go in for a gel mani as usual, I pick out my color (the same color I always get), but the nail technician today just couldn't handle it. The color was too dark, it was a mess, she didn't even make it past my pinkie. I offered to choose a different color because I couldn't be there all day, and chose a light pink. She used 3 coats. And it's uneven and blotchy and it was all over my fingers. Anyway, this place is a bummer. It doesn't matter how many ipads you have attached to your pedicure chairs, or how many creepy giant hipster goat-man paintings you have, if you can't consistently slay your services. Do not waste your money, you can get better quality in a strip mall pretty much anywhere. There is literally nothing exceptional about this salon. Beautiful spot! Nice tall ceilings and the air didn't​ have the usual strong acrylic smell you find at nail salons. Just had a quick polish change. I love they offer toxin-free nail polish options. They also have many magazines subscriptions you can read from an iPad as you get your Pedi done. Katie was fantastic. Will be coming back and recommend it. read more

I had my nails done here recently and have to say the atmosphere is very mellow and aesthetically pleasing. The lighting is fantastic. The chairs are elegant and very comfy. Each chair includes an iPad loaded with lots of magazines, supported by metal repositionable snake arm that allows you to get get the right angle for your height. All you have to do to turn pages or skip to another magazine is tap your choice. A big plus for wet nails not getting smeared! Their color selection and polishes in general are fabulous. I took my wife to get a manicure as a treat and was really impressed with the place. It looks great inside and the iPads are a clever idea to save on paper waste. We had a great time talking with the staff while they took care of her nails and my wife was quite pleased with their work. We ended up buying some of the funky jewelry on the way out too. They had some really interesting and affordable stuff. It was a great experience overall for her and friendly and painless for me. We will definitely be going back. read more

I have to agree with the other negative reviewers. While the salon is adorable, the membership concepts is a really awesome idea, and the customer service has been pretty good, with a few exceptions of the nail techs (go figure!), the quality of the work is subpar. I do not mind paying for great work, but both times I tried the salon, and yes, I tried it again after a really bad mani/pedi the first time thinking it was just a one off, but it was not. Both times I had a gel mani and standard pedicure (can't remember what they call it). Both times the nail tech did not soak the gel off long enough and insisted that filing the gel off to the nail bed was normal. Different nail techs, mind you. I had to insist the gel be soaked longer before she removed the gel from the nail bed by scraping it off the way I've always had it done in different salons. I realize some filing of the nail bed is unavoidable and necessary, but not filing off ALL of the gel. On both my fingers and toes the cuticle removal was barely done, during the exfoliation of the heels she missed most of the areas that needed it the most, the massage portion was short and the nail tech just spoke to her coworker and pretty much massaged one spot, and the polish was applied sloppily. The polish did not completely cover the beds of the nails and excess dried polish was smeared on sides of toes from trying to remove polish that got on my skin. It was very inconsistent. Too much polish on some nails, but not enough on others. Why do I have to point out to the nail "professional" the inadequacies of her job or tell her how to do her job at all?! At one point I was sent a survey by email asking me to rate the salon and service and I requested a call back to discuss my experiences, but I never heard back. Although, based off of history with the salon I was not too surprised. Really, the best experience was with the woman at the front desk. I wish I could remember her name. Long, brown hair and she works evenings. She could see I was having difficulty communicating with the nail tech and she jumped right in to try and make the service right, both times!!! If the nail techs did their jobs professionally and with quality and standards like the front desk woman I'm sure there would be no complaints! read more

Anyone who has walked passed Dolls & Dandy knows the setting is lovely and lush. When I wanted to treat my friend to a mani/pedi, I immediately thought of this place. Towards the end of our mani/pedi my friend's technician started whispering to her, though my friend didnt understand what the technician was saying. After several attempts, my friend realized her technician was saying we "need to pay our tip in cash" because they dont get paid credit card tips for two weeks. Then my technician started telling me the same thing. They tried to get us to confirm that we would only pay in cash. It was an awkward exchange because I was treating my friend and I knew I did not have cash, and therefore couldnt confirm I would pay their tips in cash. Fast-forward to check-out when I was charged $130 for the two mani/pedis. I was floored because I signed up online for two $40 mani/pedis. I should have said something at that moment though I didnt because a) I was flustered by not having cash for the tip and b) I was treating my friend and didnt want to cause a stink. Later that day I pulled up my confirmation email. I saw that I booked two $40 mani/pedis. I called the salon to explain that I was over-charged. The woman on the phone politely explained that I had booked two Dandy mani/pedis, which is a men's mani/pedi. I was shocked because a) the service is called "Dandy" not "Dude" or another name indicating it's a men's service and b) my email confirmation described my service as: "Dandy Classic Mani/Pedi (45 minutes, $40.00) Includes: All-natural soak, intensive callus treatment, exfoliation, keratin treatment, massage, clip, clean, file, cuticle care and hot towel (buff or polish optional)." Does anyone see the word "man" in that description? Furthermore, the website asked for our names. If anyone was reading the confirmation and saw that a Hope and DeeDee signed up for a men's mani/pedi, I would hope they would contact me explaining that I mistakenly signed up for the men's service [note: although I have met one male Hope in my life, I have never met a single male DeeDee]. More importantly, when we arrived, the person checking us in should have let us know, "Hey - you signed up for the Dandy. We know we should call this service a Dude not a Dandy. Either way, it's a male mani/pedi and you need a female mani/pedi, which costs 60% more than what you signed up for." I planned to treat my friend to a $100 experience. Had they been transparent about the website bait-and-switch I would have asked for just a manicure to get closer to my budgeted amount. read more

I came here a few days before my wedding with two of my bridesmaids to get our toes and nails done. This was the first time that either of them had a French manicure (neither was very careful w their manicures) and I was very happy to see that their manicures still looked perfect on the day of. I left on our honeymoon the day after the wedding and when we got home (two weeks later) my French gel manicure still looked amazing! My new solon spot! This place is great. Very comfy clean nail stations with experienced staff. The receptionist was nice and friendly as was my nail technician. I will definitely go there again. I would have given them five stars if it weren't for 2 things. When booking online you're asked for any special request; I put in that I use ALL my own polishes, from base coat to quick dry. Well, when it came time to polish the woman started using theirs until I had to inform her. And the music was erratic. One moment it was a nice loungey sort of house groove then it was Kings of Leon followed by classical.
