What a Fabulous Nail lounge! Walking in, it feels luxurious and fancy. Don't be intimidated though, the staff are super nice and very efficient. I was here for an event, but couldn't stop being in awe of how big the place is and the amenities they offer. Every chair is super comfortable, and has an iPad! Wow, this place has certainly gone downhill. Wish I had read the more recent reviews about the change of ownership before booking a manicure after not having one for a long time. As other reviewers have said, the salon has gone from luxurious to lackluster. The space is super cluttered with run of the mill products. I am not very high maintenance but did enjoy Dolls & Dandy for its sumptuous decor and attention to detail. The real deal breaker is the poor service and terrible manicure I received. Waited for 25 plus minutes for my appointment with no acknowledgement from the woman at the front desk who kept walking by. When I was finally seen, the manicure wasn't very good. The paint began chipping after three days. Kim even got polish on the bottom of my finger, noticed it as she tried to rub it off with polish remover, and then pretended it wasn't there when she couldn't get it off. It took me about 30 seconds to remove it when I got home. They basically have two technicians now, so they are very rushed and don't seem to care about doing quality work. While this salon used to be across the street and was a somewhat pretentious and uninviting place, it is now located just next door to Pete's Coffee. Under new ownership, Kim warmly though well masked, welcomes customers to the new location. Same name, new owner! Chairs are spaced, the atmosphere is quiet and calm even when the street is bustling with people, some of whom don't bother with masks. Inside, is bright and completely redone. Kim works in tandem with Kenny and provides relaxing and professional service with a smile that is evident behind the mask. I came here specifically for a help elite event so my review is based on that and general observations of the place. The vibe and experience of the place was hip and modern. Newer music was playing and the decor was very modern with beautiful wood floors and simple touches. The chairs were big and comfy instead of the clunky massage chairs. Atmosphere: Think...Fifty Shades of Grey modern chic. Everything was a cool calming grey, very modern and chic. There were photos on the grey wall. The chairs were amazing! Very big and roomy with little pillows so you can prop yourself up just right. There were little glass desks next to the chairs so you can put your purse on there as well as your drink. The lighting was lovely as well. There were straw like baskets that were low and very wide, and a sheep skin carpet that was propped on top with a towel on top of that. This is where you feet go. Very different from any salon I've been too! Tools/Nail Polish/Material Used: The first thing I noticed was they had Chanel nail polish! I have never worn Chanel nail polish, being a broke college student. I chose a pretty red color. They had a large variety of colors to choose from. I noticed right away that instead of tiny stools with a separate cart of materials that are pulled around, the manicurists used a leathery looking seat with rollers and the materials were attached to this like a cart. It was something I've never seen before, but a very cool idea. Another interesting thing I noticed...is they have iPad mini's attached to each seat in a bendable type wire thingy! So you can surf the internet while you get pampered. Bathroom: Sadly, there was only one bathroom, but I must say that it was fancy smancy. I especially liked the soap! It was like aromatherapy for my hands...and I kept sniffing my hands! The style of sink is one of my favorites...where the water trickles out a square like opening and acts as a mini waterfall. Service: Upon walking in, the manager seemed very kind and direct. At least, I think it was the manager (forgive me, I have been doing nothing but math homework the previous day so my brain was foggy). The woman who did my polish change was very sweet, but I did not understand what she was asking at first. It could have been the fact that it was very loud, as there were many people there. I was having trouble hearing my fiance who came along, so I can't rightly say it was her fault that I didn't understand what she was asking at first. She worked quickly, and did a great job painting my nails. Upon checking out, the lady behind the desk was very friendly and bubbly. Price: Uh oh. I think this may be the only negative from me. The price of a mani pedi is $65. Ouch. Then again, this IS Mill Valley. So I suppose people who live in this area can afford this luxury. But for a broke student who works only part time and doesn't receive financial help from mom and dad...I would never ever step foot in this place. However, if I had a nice career that earned me a steady income and I wanted some nice pampering in a high style salon, I definitely would come here without a second thought. So, if you earn a decent living, I'd say try it out! Final Thoughts: This has to be the fanciest, most stylish nail salon I have ever set foot in. My wonderful GF talked me into going to D&D because it's near her own business in Mill Valley. It's quite a place. So much so, I can't imagine what the break-even on opening a large, decked-out joint in that neighborhood would be - but hey, that's not my problem. The place is a little "over baked" for my taste, but I appreciate what the owner is putting together. I don't need an iPad for example in my face every second of my life, but I understand some clients probably really dig it. It's spa "like" I guess, and has a quirky upscale-ish charm I suppose. So, to me, that's a good portion of the reason why it's more expensive than some of the other places - certainly more than the modest, friendly and often loud spot I frequent. I'm not sure what other reviewers expect when they walk in...and the times I've gone it's been frighteningly empty! Somebody's got to pay the freight! What about the service? Well, I adore the hostess/receptionist. She's a "just right" for her role and the owner I hope recognizes her value. On the nail technician side, we got the same "whisper" that others have noted here. In a way, it kinda breaks my heart because I've lived off of cash tips myself and it's made a big difference having that cash flow. Still... My mani- and pedi- (yes, I went "full boat") were only okay. In fact, in the three times I've visited, twice I left with extremely painful cuticle inflammations - are they infected, I dunno but ouch! I'm no baby, but damn it hurt for a long time. I found myself inadvertently bumping into things and cringing...the sucker HURT! (Every time it happens, I do curse under my breath at D&D.) The first time I had the problem, I thought it was a wild exception. Second time around (in a row), I find myself a little bent out of shape. In the two years of manicures from my modest provider I've *never* had that happen. Ever. I feel compelled to mention I contacted the salon about my experience before writing this review. If the owner addressed - or even acknowledged it - I might have decided against it. Alright, ladies... I finally GET what this whole mani/pedi craze is about. After getting my hands & feet pampered at Dolls & Dandy Nail Lounge, I'm officially a convert! My paws have never looked or felt so good! In full disclosure, I hosted a Yelp Elite event here a few months back when they first opened. It was definitely an affair to remember. But since I was the host, I couldn't review my experience. But the other day, I finally came back as a paying customer. And I've got to tell ya, I went home feeling like a new man. It was essentially a 45-minute mani/pedi procedure. My nail technician couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating. I guess you could say I was "in good hands" all the way through. They do it all - nail cutting, brushing, polishing, massaging, you name it! All I had to was relax in my comfy chair and read online magazines in the seat iPad. After 10 minutes, I gradually just dozed off. I was in complete serene bliss. Fellas - mani/pedis aren't just for ladies. Do yourself a favor and treat your nails right. I hate sharing this review as I'm afraid they will be too busy to fit me in! But this place is too good not to share. It's my civic duty, right? First of all, this place is BEAUTIFUL! The decor is extremely tasteful and over-the-top wonderful. The ceiling has lights that change color (seriously stunning - almost theatrical!) For pedicures, instead of those dirty massage chairs, they have luxurious big plush chairs and they use these beautiful copper pots filled with a cleansing solution, along with fresh sliced oranges, lemons and limes. Okay, seriously, I'm in heaven now. The smell of the water and citrus is amazing. And because they avoid any harsh chemicals, the place feels and smells fresh and pleasant. Did I mention that this is the cleanest nail salon I've ever seen? The prices are CHEAP for what you get. It was only $40 for a pedicure. I normally pay $65. And believe me, my salon has got nothing on this place! Although the majority of customers were women, I noticed that a significant number were men. Nice to see men taking care of themselves! My whole experience was relaxing, beautiful, and best of all, they did a great job on my tootsies. Will I go back? Oh, yeah! And I don't care where you live, (Are you listening, Bay Area?) I've been eager to try the new nail salon in the neighborhood to see how it compared to Fingers and Toes, where I usually go for my Mani Pedi. Below are my overall first impressions: Positives: - The central downtown location - The place is spacious and clean - The awesome selection of 5-free nail polishes - iPads to read magazines, if you're into that sort of thing - Friendly staff - Excellent paint job - They offer early bird discounts during the week Areas for improvement: - Price. Given it costs about $20 more than my usual place, I will probably only go on special occasions - Strong floral scent from burning candles. Better than toxic nail chemicals but not ideal as scent is so personal - Attention to detail. I liked the Vietnamese women a lot but, the one doing my toes massaged one leg twice and completely neglected the other one and I was too nice to say anything. The woman doing my hands did a mediocre job pushing my cuticles back and trimming them. - Scheduling. They called me and asked me to push my appointment out a half hour. At least I didn't have to wait in the salon for 30 minutes! Overall, it's a great place. I'd go more often if it was less pricey. read more

Terrible service! I came here with a friend who had made reservations for us at 4pm yesterday (she made this app way earlier on in the day). We arrived at 4:05 and noticed there were three ladies getting pedicures with only two nail techs, so it already seemed busy. Nail tech asked if we had an app and we said yes, we were both getting mani/pedis. She then told us to have a seat on the massage chairs. While we were getting situated and picking out nail colors, two other women came in and said they had JUST called in and were late for their app. Nail tech then asked my friend and I if we can wait while she takes care of them first, because they apparently called in for 3:30???? WTF. My friend was already IN the chair and I was about to get on myself. I'm 3 weeks away from giving birth, NO I will NOT be waiting, while you inconvenience US for people who were over 35 min late to their app and won't honor a booked app that was made well in advance. I was super upset and didn't want to cause a scene so my friend and I both left. While walking out, a woman who just finished getting her nails done came and said she was glad we didn't decide to wait because the service is AWFUL there and recommended another nail salon down the street. This is what money hungry businesses do. They double book & overbook however many people at a time without thinking or taking into consideration how terrible it'll reflect on their business. It's located in the heart of Mill Valley ( I believe the old Tyler Florence spot) so you are making up for the overhead. Sweet location!! The service for a mani and pedi was good - not great. My toes and fingers were not filed completely and I had to re touch at home later that evening. She also rushed through mine - so there was no sense of any "spa" relaxation . They are very efficient with booking your appointment - everything is high tech- you get an iPad at your seat with all the latest magiZines uploaded -however.... I keep wanting to like this place... The location is perfect right in the center of town and it is really beautiful... But every time I leave there I feel disappointed by the way my manicure turned out. This time the manicurist dabbed my manicure and I told her not to because she was making marks as shown in the photo above. She insisted that she knew what she was doing. The manager/owner made an effort to make sure that I felt comfortable walking out of the salon bill-wise and I could tell he was focused on making sure that I would return and not walk away angry. They always have genuine smiles and seem glad that we're there. Experience Mai is my favorite, her skills are impeccable and my manicure lasts for a while. The pedicures are amazing too and she gives a great massage. I've had services provided by a few others and they are all great, very consistent. I love the gloves they use right before the hand massage. They offer multiple drink options, but I tend to go with the champagne. The staff are very nice and friendly but the woman working be front desk is cold. You can't do tip on any card. And THE 20% OFF IS ONLY TIL NOON! The manicure was good overall but a little sloppy at the end leaving nail polish on the sides. I came here with the four year old boy I nanny since he refuses to let us cut his nails. Ann was SO patient and wonderful for him. He was refusing the clipping at first but her persistence worked and ended up being able to file both his hands and feet. The mother and I were so grateful! Who knew a nail salon could be so beautiful AND eco-friendly at the same time?! Simply stunning interior that will make you feel like you walked into a high-end hotel. The owners have not missed a single detail in creating this nail heaven. They are trying to be as toxic free and sustainable as a nail salon can be from their nail polish and gels, and copper bowls for your feet to the mini ipads they have at each station so there are no piles of paper magazines floating around. They also offer you a complimentary beverage (water/tea/coffee) with your service, which is always a welcomed touch. And there are even charging stations at each chair so you can charge your phone while your nails are being transformed. I just did the Classic mani/pedi ($65), which is fine for me since I don't like to spend too much time at the salon, but they also offer a more deluxe 90-min Signature version ($100) with extra exfoliation, and a keratin treatment. (They do gel and nail art too). They did a great job! My hands were a mess and they very diligently took the time to make them look normal again. Super excited to go back. Getting your nails done is always a nice treat, but they really have managed to take it to the next level and make it that much more special. What's also nice is that this place isn't just for us girls. They also offer services for men (hence the Dandy in the name) and children. I have a feeling this will be one of the hardest reservations to get once the word gets out so I signed up for one of their memberships to make sure I secure my spot in one of those swanky velvet chairs 2x a month! read more
