I have been going to this salon for 11 years, and for most of that time, I had nothing but amazing…read moreexperiences. Under the previous owners, Laura and Danny, the salon felt welcoming and personal. Over the years, we got to know them and many of the people who worked there, and we brought the business a great deal of repeat business. Unfortunately, since they retired and sold the business to Lux SF2, my experiences have changed dramatically. My longtime technician is still wonderful, and I have nothing but positive things to say about her. Unfortunately, the overall atmosphere and customer service have gone downhill. The manager who now runs the salon consistently comes across as angry and unwelcoming. There is rarely a hello or any effort to make customers feel welcome, and it seems that the employees are uncomfortable around her. There is also another employee who has displayed the same type of behavior toward customers. The problems really came to a head when my partner was accidentally charged double for a service. He noticed the overcharge immediately and was told that it would be corrected and refunded within a day or so. It wasn't. After three phone calls over the course of 10 days, the money still had not been refunded. We ultimately let the matter go because he returned to the salon and received the pedicure he had already paid for. Instead of simply resolving the issue professionally, the manager became angry and raised her voice at my partner, insisting that the money had already been refunded when it had not. My partner eventually contacted the manager at their sister salon on Hayes Street to explain what had happened. Apparently, that made the situation even worse, because the manager then confronted him and became even more upset with him in the salon. Then came my experience last night. I had a punch card that had been started under the previous ownership. I had one punch remaining for a complimentary manicure. This card had already been punched by the current salon seven times out of ten, so they clearly had been honoring it. After receiving my manicure, I presented the card and was suddenly told that I had to pay an additional $5 because it was an "old" card from the previous owner. When I questioned this, I was told that they don't honor the old cards--even though they have continued punching mine and accepting it as valid. If the salon no longer intends to honor a loyalty program, that should have been clearly communicated to customers before they continued accepting and stamping those cards. The situation became even more uncomfortable when the male employee raised his voice at me in front of other customers and began bringing up my partner's refund issue from a month and a half earlier. I explained that the matter had already been dealt with, but he continued to argue with me and speak to me disrespectfully. Meanwhile, the manager, who was present and is supposedly running the salon, never stepped in to de-escalate the situation or address the behavior. I eventually left and went to the main Lux SF location up the street to speak with management. The manager there was apologetic, listened to what happened, and treated me with the professionalism and courtesy I would have expected from the salon in the first place. There are also growing concerns about cleanliness and sanitation that I have noticed during my recent visits. The chairs and workstations appear to have a layer of nail dust on them, and sanitizing the stations does not seem to be the priority it once was. I have also observed pedicure stations not being sprayed with what appeared to be bleach/disinfectant after each use. Given the nature of the services being provided, this is particularly concerning to me. I plan to contact the appropriate health department to report what I have observed and ask them to determine whether the salon is following the required sanitation procedures. It is incredibly disappointing to see a place that we supported for so many years change this much. Customers should not feel like they are walking into an environment where employees are angry, customers are spoken to disrespectfully, charges are inconsistent, or legitimate concerns are met with confrontation. A business cannot build a lasting customer base by treating people this way. In my opinion, if the current management continues to create an atmosphere of anger, disrespect, and distrust--and if customers feel they are being overcharged or treated unfairly whenever there is an opportunity to do so--the business will eventually lose the loyal customers who helped sustain it for years. I genuinely hope Lux SF2 takes these concerns seriously. There is still an opportunity to turn things around, but that starts with treating customers and employees with basic respect, being transparent about pricing and loyalty programs, properly addressing billing issues, and making cleanliness and sanitation a priority again.

After some search engine trial-and-error, I finally got a Google page that listed three salons that offered a simple pedicure at a reasonable rate. The closest of these was Mani-Pedi Spa. Even though they take walk-ins, I called on Tuesday 9/22 and made an appointment for 11 am the following day. I was greeted by Gwen, who immediately pegged me as a guy who probably just wanted his nails clipped and nothing else. She walked me over to a wall display and asked me to choose a favorite nail color. It took me a few seconds to realize she was joking. (Good icebreaker, Gwen!) Anyway, the pedicure was not only thorough but absolutely painless. Granted, it took about 15 minutes longer than what I was used to, but I consider that a very reasonable tradeoff for a job done with the precision of a jeweler or a watchmaker. Once we were done, Gwen walked me to a lady at a desk at the back of the shop. That made it easy for me to hand the desk lady the pedicure fee and hand Gwen the tip at about the same time. I decided to wait a few days before posting my review, just to make sure there was no residual pain or swelling near the problem toe. That milestone has been cleared, and it looks like I now have a new regular pedicurist to see somewhere around November 11. Thanks, Gwen. Great job!

They made me feel so comfortable and honestly turned what could have been a really frustrating experience into such a good one. My feet are drier than when I went in, I think it's because she didn't put lotion on after the scrub? However, there are limited options in Potetro, and they're always booked out, so it's working for them!

When I expressed disappointment prior to leaving, the technician later explained there had been a language barrier. However, this was never communicated during the time of service. Instead, I was repeatedly told "no" to the options I asked about. Afterward, I reviewed the salon's website and realized they actually did offer the exact style I wanted. What made me especially uncomfortable, though, was that the technician put their hands in my hair without asking first. That completely crossed a personal boundary and felt very disrespectful. Overall, I think this salon is fine for simple services, but if you're looking for detailed nail art or a more attentive customer experience, you may leave feeling frustrated.

I tried this place just because it's a couple bucks cheaper than the other nearby nail places AND ohh do I regret skimping on a few measly dollars. Hence ... I found me a new wonderful nail place worth every $1 (check out my review for tiptoes nail spa). Ok back to my review, it was a lazy weekday afternoon and I decided to walk in for a mani/pedi. I waited at the front desk for a good 7 minutes. I know someone saw me but didn't make an effort to say anything. Finally, the receptionist came, didn't apologize for the wait, no explanation just told me to go sit. Well, to make a long story short - my mani was not very good. My nails were not filed evenly and cuticles were still needing attention. Maybe she was new because the polish was also uneven and bubbly. My pedi was quite awful. She cut me and didn't even apologize. She just kept going as if she didn't do anything ... no sorry - nothing. She casually tried to stop the bleeding. Like I wouldn't notice?!?! Then she quickly scrubbed my soles ... it was over before I knew it. But i guess it's a good thing because I did not enjoy it at all. I couldn't relax. I was out of there in 30 minutes. Never am I going back. I'd rather take my money else where even if it's a few dollars more so I can relax and enjoy myself. Not have to sit there stiff as a log ... flinching everytime my cuticles were being cut or soles getting scrubbed. No Thanks. read more

Although I hesitate to share the new location b/c I am afraid once it's discovered I'll have to book my appointment weeks in advance. BUT... I want to give love to Dolci. Only if they opened up before I moved to Los Angeles I would have gone twice a week! That's how relaxing the service is! This is hands down better than the other nail salon up the hill ("mani pedi"). Dolci is salon is EXTREMELY DELIGHTFUL in many aspects than the other nail-salon up the hill called "mani pedi". Their menu pricing is inexpensive/competitive (services such as waxing, facial & mani-pedi). This boutique salon is clean, friendly, warm & inviting yet professional. Also, they do not pressure the customers for an up-sell/add-on service. Dolci is a top notch salon that would be extremely successful in Los Angeles or NYC neighborhood. (Trust me I am metropolis woman!) They've expanded to Potrero Hill (next to Goat Hill) so maybe they'll sweep the nation after that :) That's how good they are!!! My recent visit there was pleasant and the music was very soothing. Dolci appears to be under new management, so hopefully their services will excel from what they already offer ( I think they have waxing too, maybe I'll try it out the next time I visit). The pricing for my manicure and pedi was very reasonable as always (and not to mention a nice cup of green tea that went along with the magazine I read). Overall, my experience there was great and the lady that serviced me was very patient. The store's environment feels peaceful, quiet, and spacious, and the staffs were really attentive to my needs. One thing I do suggest is calling in before hand, because the store does get busy at times. My pedicure is still intact which is a plus. Can't wait to come back for a new color. read more

My back has been sore so I loved the massage chair while I was getting a pedicure. Anna also gave me a great foot and calf massage; I've had people give me foot massages that were too painful, but this was perfect. She also told me I had great skin on my feet, which was a surprisingly lovely compliment. Nancy worked on my hand while I was getting the pedicure, which was really nice because that saved a lot of time while also allowing me to chill on the massage chair; usually I've gotten the pedicure first and then the manicure afterwards at a desk. She was very thoughtful about timing it so that my friend (who ended up arriving almost 30 minutes late) and I would end about the same time. She asked another person (I didn't catch her name) to help me out, and she was also really great. She noticed that my nails were not 100% smooth (honestly they looked smooth to me) so she spent extra effort smoothing it out after she put on the nail polish and was not satisfied with how it looked. I struggled a lot with the colors I wanted for my cat eye, and she was really patient with me with saying no to most colors. We settled on a gorgeous slate blue and I'm really happy with it. I honestly don't know much about how things look, so I also really appreciated that Nancy recommended a square shape for my toenails and an almond shape for my fingers, whereas she recommended an oval shape for my friend's fingers. I think they were perfect, and I'm very happy with how they turned out. Nancy recommended hard gel for me as she noticed that my nails were very brittle from multiple rounds of gel removal; I appreciate that she was gentle with explaining it to me without trying to upsell me, and I did end up going with it. Overall, my gorgeous cat eye + hard gel + gel nail removal on both hands & feet + normal pedicure ended up being $100 total. I thought this was a very good price, and everyone was really kind. I'll definitely be going back.

Disappointing Experience…read more I walked into the nail salon and asked if they had time for a pedicure. I was told, "Sure, absolutely." I then explained that I only needed help fixing one toenail from a previous pedicure and asked if they could take care of it. Immediately after I mentioned that it was just one toenail, I was told, "Oh no, we don't have time." This was confusing and disappointing, especially since I had just been told they had time for a full pedicure. The interaction left me feeling as though I was being turned away because I only needed one nail fixed and perhaps wasn't considered worth taking as a paying customer. It also made me question whether there was another reason I was treated differently. I can't say for certain what the reason was, but the change in response felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming. I hope the salon can be more consistent and respectful when communicating with customers, regardless of the service they are requesting.

I'm understanding…read morewhen it comes to businesses, especially nail salons, where there's usually delays due to walk-ins, overbooking, etc. But my experience at Sassy Nails yesterday was abysmal. I booked two pedicure appointments for me and my husband. We were seated right away, but the water was noticeably cool. When I asked if mine could be warmed up, the technician seemed annoyed I asked. The tray attached to my chair still contained a UV light and used foils from the customer next to me, and it was never moved out of my way the entire time I sat there. My husband's pedicure was completed in about 10 minutes. While I understand his service would be shorter since he didn't get polish, his feet were barely scrubbed and his toenails hardly filed. About 10 minutes after his pedicure ended, they started on mine. About 12 minutes in, they were already applying polish. Everything moved so quickly that I don't even recall receiving a lotion massage. Even a basic pedicure at most salons take at least 20 minutes, pre-polish. When I got up to leave, my chair's armrest was stuck under the tray attached to the chair beside me, making it impossible to get out or even grab my sandals to put back on, without moving my neighbor's chair as well. No one bothered to offer assistance. After paying, tipping, and offering a thank you, I didn't receive so much as a response. Once I got home, I noticed there was still polish on several of my cuticles. There are plenty of other options in the area that provide both better nail services and a much better customer experience, and even at a better price!
