Not bad. good service. reasonable prices. food? not impressed. What's up with communal table? is this Benehana?

I went in for dinner and there were 2 tables available. The host mentioned a customer at a table was very loud, and they still made us sit next to her (she ended up being obnoxious). As far as the food, the pizza was very soggy. I also ordered a chevas on the rocks to drink and the price was $24! Overall the experience was very unpleasant. I have been there a couple other times and once witnessed the chef arguing with the kitchen and he was ready to walk out. read more

We came to Dolce Pane E Vino for an early dinner and sat in one of the comfy booths near the front of the restaurant. Decor was kind of rustic contemporary - not pleasing to my eye by any means - but it's a cozy spot and it sounds like the patio is a big hit (I did not see it). We ordered a couple of pizzas that were very good - thin crust but still a nice chewy consistency. As expected, very good bread and I enjoyed a white wine flight. Tried a couple salads and vegetable side dishes - all very good, vegetables a bit salty. Was not a fan of the tiger shrimp with cannelini hummus - shrimp was fishy but I know that can be common with tiger shrimp. Service was great. In the end, I felt like I had a dinner consisting of a ton of bread and some vegetables and our bill was a bit over $100. read more

They had pretty good Flatbreads here. I had the Prosciutto with Egg flatbread which was pretty tasty! The Broccolini was deeeelicious. I definitely will come back for more wine too. The low booth seats were a little uncomfortable so I'll ask for a table next time. I stayed at the lovely Rancho Valencia hotel right up the street and it was a great trip! read more

Every time I have come here it has been absolutely perfect. The service is great,I have gotten a table every time and the food and wine is great. It isn't even that too expensive. The food is a little overpriced but the wine seems relatively fair. It's a beautiful place and with a really great outdoor area so it sees really fancy but at the same time it's comfortable and ive seen kids in there. I recommend the meat and cheese plate for $29 and their cheapest Pinot Grigio was I think $12 for a glass and a half. read more

Food was excellent. Lasagna the right balance of flavors. Salmon beautifully prepared. Great salad choices. Wine flight was terrific blend of choices. Wine menu is incredible. Wide range of reds and blends. Restaurant is warm and comfortable yet elegant with a wine tasting lounge like feel to it. Desserts were delicious. Bread puffing a treat. This place gets their veggies from Chino farms, same place Wolfgang Puck does. You get what you pay for. If you're expecting Applebee's prices, then maybe go to Applebee's. read more

When staying in or traveling through Rancho Santa Fe, this is the only restaurant worthy of stopping at. Food, wine and staff are top notch. I have never had a bad experience in five years and I travel the world for work and pleasure. My family is European and we know quality food/wine. I love the kale salad, cedar wood plank salmon and Lewis Cellars wines. Pizzas and cheese plate are out of this world. Steven Flowers, co-owner, is very involved and operates with high standards. Pass on Market, Rancho Valencia and Delicias. They are all grade C's. This is a winner each and every time. The wine dinners and special events are not to be missed. read more

Having been here many times, I can say this place is consistent. The cocktails at the bar are very well made and the service all around is good. The small plates are delicious, and the salads are very fresh. I would also recommend the Cioppino, very flavorful. The only gripe we have is please bring back the Potato Bruschetta, asap!! Love this place! A hidden gem in San Diego where you can have exquisite wine. A small, quaint restaurant, great braised short ribs and a nice place to relax on a spring/summer afternoon. We went for dinner on a Saturday night with a reservation. They seated us in a booth which was actually in a lounge area with a very low table and was uncomfortable to sit at as a woman in a short dress, and for my tall husband. At some point the staff were cleaning silverware 5 feet away from us and chatting away. The ambiance and service were mediocre from our table (even though the rest of the restaurant was beautiful). We enjoyed the food and wine, but would not return because of the service/hospitality. Sometimes you just need a drink! After taking our drink/app order later than other guests who arrived after us, our food came first surpisingly. Between the bad seating area and the forgetful waitress, we're not feeling loved at this point. The waitress made the specials sound hardly good (and barely remembered the details) - felt like I was watching episode of Restaurant Impossible. When the meat & cheese plate were brought over by the manager or owner, we had to ask him to describe the plate and he begrudgingly did so (we've never had that happen!). Like I said, the food and wine were very good but we felt like we wasted a night out (and money) and should have gone elsewhere. Maybe it is a good place for a casual lunch and you should make sure you ask for a good table! read more

Great ambiance, love the family table concept. Had the shrimp risotto, flatbread and eggplant parm. All fab! Portions are small... but great for sharing. Wine list is decent and desserts are a plus. Miles was awesome! My wife and I went on a Monday night and had a great time. We orders the Pinot noir Santa Rita and ordered the walnut salad with good Italian flavor dressing. Ask for bread it's good too. After this we got the short ribs were were very good. Finally the desert browny and the pudding butterscotch is nice too. Amazing!!! The best spot in the house is at the bar. The staff is amazing. The decor is great. The wine rack wall at the entrance and the unique lighting fixtures set the mood for a great meal. I really can't write a review on the main menu items. We were here meeting some friends for a small get together. We just had drinks, appetizers, and some pizza. The food we did have was great and the bar was filled with wonderful people. I actually met a few famous people the couple of times I was in here. The Ambiance is perfect, the lighting is romantic, and definitely great on the eyes. My Friend and I met At Doce Pane E Vino because my clients 12 year told me the gnoki is to die for. So we both ordered the potato pasta. It was very nice and perfect with a glass of their house wine, which I do recommend. The owners were on sight that evening and they were so pleasant from the moment we walked in till we left. My sister-in-law and I were visiting the area and stopped in for lunch. First visit., no second chance. We liked the name of the restaurant and there weren't many choices in the plaza. It was Sunday, 2-17-13 about 1:30 pm. The interior was beautiful, with dark rich wood at the hostess center and a floor to ceiling shelving unit of cubes all holding bottles of wine. We were greeted promptly by the hostess and lead by a different person to a patio table, which we had requested. We were given two menus. No drink order was inquired of. We perused the menu as it was atypical to what we were accustomed. It took a little time, but we were never approached during that time, or any time thereafter. We watched the two servers enter the patio and exit several times, and only one time did it appear that one glanced at us, but it was the glance that saw nothing, not even our hopeful faces. All the tables had customers, but it didn't seem harried. Most looked relaxed and were enjoying their moments. Finally a waiter delivered food to the table in front of us, so we waited to catch his eye when he was done, but again, he never looked at us. I told my sister-in-law I was not against leaving. She seemed hesitant, so I set my stopwatch on my phone. 7 minutes later, still with out a drink or any attempt to notice we were there, although they had still entered and exited a couple of times, we walked out. As we left, the hostess that greeted us on the way in, asked brightly, "Is everything all right?". I will say we discovered a pizzeria called Leucadia in the same plaza. It might not have had the same degree of sophistication that Dolce Pan E Vino had, but they greeted us, served us drink and garlic bread while we looked at a menu and brought our lunch out in a timely manner. Plus, the server was attentive to drinks needed filling and was pleasant and cheery and answered questions about the food in a knowledgeable way. Lunch was excellent. I would highly recommend going there. The cuisine is different from Dolce's, but you get served, so if you are hungry Leucadia is the better choice. See my review on that page. Amendment: Saturday 2-23-2013 Upon reading my review the owner contacted me to invite us to visit the restaurant again. His standards are high and he was dismayed at the oversight of two patrons. He wanted to let us see what should have occurred. Sadly we live too far to return. I appreciated Mr. Flowers' response and invitation. This is indicative of a business owner who is serious about customer service. Kudos! Changing from 1 star to 4 stars because of Mr. Flowers' attempts to make amends. read more

We had a reservation and arrived promptly at 5:00pm. The restaurant was empty, yet the lady at the front desk insisted on seating us at the cocktail tables at the front. We pointed out that these tables were not appropriate for dining. She then said we could eat outside, but only if we could sit along the fire pit, but not at a proper table. We were the only people there..the restaurant was wide open ? We told her this was unacceptable..she said oh well... We left...drove up the road to Market, and enjoyed a fine meal where we treated as valued customers. read more

Just had lunch here and the place was empty and deservedly so. I had the $24 "Certified Angus Beef ® Flat Iron Steak 5 oz., mixed greens, frisee, tomato, avocado, blue cheese, Green Goddess". First of all, there was about 2.5 ounces of steak which is probably a good thing because it was just one big piece of gristle. I couldn't even chew through it. The salad itself was tiny with few greens and a barely perceptible amount of blue cheese. This is a place that clearly doesn't care about their food at lunch although I have had some good dinners there. read more

All I can say is we have always experienced delicious food and wine here. The service is warm and friendly and you can tell there are a lot of locals who come to enjoy the wine bar and ambience. We aren't locals, but come whenever we are in the area. The shortribs are amazing and we've even had nights where we've ordered ALL of the appetizers on the menu and no entre. Highly recommended.
