Found this little gem and the ice cream is delicious! Perfect for a hot summer day. I got cookies and cream and it was so creamy and thick. Inside is cute and very clean. The lady that took our order and got our treats (assuming it was the owner) was very kind and welcoming. We were a bit disappointed as an old menu we found online had vegan ice cream flavors listed which is one of the reasons we stopped by, but in the store they did not have any vegan flavors. Luckily my spouse was able to get a delicious, creamy strawberry banana smoothie with oat milk instead! My boyfriend and I love stopping here when we walk around downtown or walk down to the park with our dog. We've become somewhat regulars this summer and have chatted with the owner several times to the point where he recognizes us even when we don't stop by. Just the other night we were walking back to our car and even though we didn't get any ice cream that day the owner came out to wish us a good night and have a quick chat. Salem downtown is just really nice nowadays with streets blocked off so people can dine or drink alfresco,,it has a great feeling. maybe the one good thing about this Coronavirus crisis. Anyway Dolce Mamas is a little store front on one of the closed off streets and we were looking for ice cream after dinner. And there it was. It has a cute little clean interior, the light green wall reminded me of pistachio's so i gat a Pistachio Milkshake. It was very good,,bit spendy but this is hand made ice cream and it had nice bits of real pistachios in it. Daughter got a Peanut Butter Oreo vegan ice cream shake..and she loved it. Stopped by this cute little ice cream shop during my time in Salem, and I'm so glad I did even though I was totally freezing! I sampled a couple flavors and eventually went with a scoop of the pistachio and coconut & cookies (vegan). I didn't get a scoop of the blueberry cheesecake, but I remember really liking the sample I had! I thoroughly enjoyed the pistachio ice cream. Not only did it have actual pistachio pieces in the ice cream, but it wasn't a scary green color. Texture was super creamy too. The coconut one was pretty good also. I love that it's vegan, but it was a little lacking in the texture. No big, still good. And they made their waffle cones on site. My ice cream cone was delish. My son and I finished having lunch and my friend who accompanied us suggested to try Dolce Mama's for dessert. I am one not to say no to ice cream, so are destination was set. When we entered we weren't greeted and was helped by a person that just void of any personality and gave a vibe of inconvenience, so that was my first turn off of coming here. My son picked the Chocolate banana on a cone and I got the blackberry honey flavor. We grabbed out items and went outside to eat them. The first impression of the blackberry honey flavor was that the honey flavor was not subtle and overpowering to the point where it was not appetizing. Also second thing was that the ice cream had severe texture of crushed ice as if it suffered freezer burn and because of that I had to throw it away after eating only half of it. However, my son did like his ice cream and flavor, but overall experience wasn't pleasant. read more

Went in looking specifically for mint chocolate chip ice cream. Didn't see it listed as a flavor available so I went to leave but the guy stopped me and insisted they had it. So I paid nearly four dollars for a single scoop of ice cream on a sugar cone... he did not fill the cone or even give me a very large scoop of green ice cream that I probably should have looked closer at..... after paying as much a pint costs at the grocery store I walked outside and took a bite of PISTACHIO. I was already on my way back to my car so I decided I'd go back in a couple of days to let them know what happened and give them a chance to correct the mistake. The woman running the place was deeply in conversation with someone else when I arrived. I clearly interrupted their gossip time... I told her what happened and she did not even apologize let alone attempt to make it right for me. This poor customer service along with ridiculous pricing would be enough for me to not want this business to survive on the main street of my local downtown... but additionally they have also plastered their logo on stickers and stuck them all over the places where I go for walks. Gross free advertising they obviously need at those prices and portions. So completely dissatisfied with this establishment. read more

ever since dolce mama's is under new ownership. the ice cream served there isn't the same. the customer service isn't exactly the same. the customer service here is alright, just not as friendly as it was with the original owner. i frequented dolce mama's all the time because of two things; one- the ice cream is handmade, that in itself is 5 stars! two- the ice cream is hard, not close to soft-serve. number two has drastically changed. the ice cream is already very melty & very close to the soft-serve texture you would expect coming out of a machine. it's just not my favorite, only once in a blue moon will i get soft-serve ice cream... so, if you frequent dolce mama's for the same reasons as mine. you'll be a bit disappointed too. if you love soft, melty ice cream, then this is definitely your spot! let me be very clear, the QUALITY of the ice cream is still as good! just not the experience of eating the ice cream, the consistency killed everything for me. i'm disappointed to say i lost my only local, handmade ice cream spot in town. i wish dolce mama's the best. read more

The serving sizes are pretty large too and well worth the money. My boyfriend got a double scoop of strawberries & cream in a waffle cone and boy oh boy...that is so good! It reminded me of Mexican helados!! So good. I got a single scoop of the stracciatella and mint. I loved it! The mint wasn't overpowering and everything was just in the perfect amount. This ice cream is amazing, hands down! I definitely see what the hype is. The texture is so creamy and light, just how hand made icecream is. I absolutely love it. I had the chocolate estremo, which was chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup mixed in, and pieces of chocolate cookies. So delicious and smooth, and not too rich either. Perfection! My fiance had a blueberry Italian soda. He's not much into sweets like I am, but he drank that quick and said it was amazing! We will both definitely return. Now I will say the shop looked a little plain, but since it's new I don't really see an issue. The prices are clearly listed on the menu and there are a variety of options for scoop sizes and cones. The prices are similar to a Baskin Robbins. They also have cupcakes, cookies, and other little items. The cookies looked great, I regret not buying one now. There's also beverages as well, the Italian soda my fiance had looked so good. I'm assuming they swap out the flavors of ice cream as those flavors were handwritten. My family and I stopped in here on our way home after a day of shopping at the nearby outlets. We had eaten dinner and we're looking for a great ice cream place. We found this spot on Yelp and since it was on the way... The rating has more to do with the presentation of the business rather than the ice cream. It actually was really delicious. You can tell it's made with fresh ingredients. I had the pistachio almond on a cake cone. My husband and kids had the blueberry cheesecake on the freshly made waffle cones. They were both delicious. For the positives: the ice cream, waffle cones - all fresh and delicious. The decor - light, airy, clean and relatively comfortable. They even have a little area for kids to play. The not so good stuff is: customer service - we were allowed to sample, but we em weren't greeted when we entered, we weren't really even engaged. I initiated the conversation by asking about what was displayed in the front cases. I was told they were actually just models and not actual ice cream. The ice cream was behind the counter and to the back, so you couldn't actually see them. They were out of two of the flavors and this was not indicated on the menu. Frankly, if my kids hadn't have been with us, we would have turned around and left based upon our reception. read more
